Life in this world can be very hard, but God is in absolute control! While we may not understand his will and ways, he does reveal enough of his purposes, promises, and plans to us to help us trust him in the midst of global difficulties and chaos. In this sermon we look at Revelation 6:1-8, celebrate the greatness of God, and set rightful expectations for life in this world.

When we endure seasons of suffering, we tend to become very focused on ourselves and live as though the world revolves around us and our pain. One of the ways the Lord helps us overcome this tendency and put him in the center in seasons of suffering is by using us in the lives of others. Even if all we can give is a smile or a kind word on a particular day, the Lord will empower us to overflow as we look to him, trust in him, and follow him. In this sermon we talk about the joy and difficulties of serving others in seasons of suffering.

When we suffer by faith in God, we are not alone because God has promised to be with us in the storm and He’s commanded the church to “rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15). In this sermon we talk about the grace of sharing one another’s burdens for the glory of God and the healing of our souls.

As we endure seasons of suffering by faith in God and hope in his promises, we can sometimes fall prey to the false notion that it’s wrong for us to feel sorrow, grief, or pain. But the Bible often calls on the people of God to “lament,” to express their sorrow, grief, and pain to God which means that lament is an act of worship. In this sermon we will hear about the biblical call to lament and talk about some practical ways that we can do so in seasons of suffering.

When times are hard, the most important thing we need to do is establish or strengthen the praise of God in our lives because He alone is our refuge, our strength, our healing, and our help. In this sermon we consider the vital place of giving thanks and singing to the Lord in times of need.
