Don't be like Jonah. Be courageous like Ruth. Be less like drifting like Samson. The reality, though, is that the primary purpose of the great Old Testament narratives is not to improve our morals, but to reveal the living God to us. The Old Testament features authoritative theological teaching, but often in the form of stories, thereby teaching in the form of real human experience. In this series, we will explore stories of laughter, bitterness, bravery, doubt and power. We’ll examine wayfinders and signposts along the way that point us toward God. And we'll foreshadow the coming of Jesus.

Does God answer prayers? When we pray we are often just looking for answers, but what if the point of prayer is connection and hope? In this week's message we're looking at how to deal with our personal brokenness. We have a surprising Biblical character show us how she dealt with her brokenness and experienced the solidarity of Jesus with her condition but also in a radical way, with both physical and emotional healing.

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?' Celebrate with us with a resounding "yes!" this Easter. He is our resurrection and our hope and He is Risen!

Do you ever come to the end of Christmas and think, “Well, . . . that cost way more than I expected!” This message focuses on the cost of Christmas. Not merely in monetary terms, but in the impact and challenges that are always present at Christmas and in the Christmas season - including at the first Christmas in Bethlehem.

When tragedy and sorrow strike, we often feel that God is far from us. We feel as if we’ve been abandoned. However, this Advent the story of Ruth reminds us that God offers hope to the hopeless. At the close of one of Scripture’s bleakest chapters, we get a glimpse of God’s mercy and faithfulness. The story of Ruth ultimately points us to what God has done for us through Christ our Redeemer. We have been brought from death to life, from despair to hope. At the start of his Gospel, Matthew opens not with a description of Jesus’ birth but with a genealogy. What Matthew is doing is, he’s saying, “You can’t understand the birth of Christ, you can’t just jump right to the Christmas story, unless you first look at the family tree of Jesus.” During Advent, then, we are going to focus in on four quite unexpected, even shocking, women who are named in Jesus’ genealogy as a way of better understanding who Jesus is and what He was about.
