Support the show, grab a book with Audible, or start shopping at Thrive Market. We tend to provide episodes that push a boundary or two or maybe even tug at your heartstrings. However, sometimes it's nice have a good life with a guest that loves what they do and has the energy to show it. Lee Day is certainly the embodiment of that sentiment. We met Lee through Renee King-Sonnen who we recently had on the show. Lee has had an interesting life and career being a celebrity pet entertainer. From being close friends with Doris Day to performing a Bark Mitzvah for Joan Rivers' dog and even taking lobsters on a date. Lee is filled with stories and songs to comprise multiple books and albums. She was a riot to have on and had us rolling. If you're driving while listening you may need to pull over until you stop laughing. Lee is marrying two of Renee King-Sonnen's pigs on September 17 at an event to benefit the Rowdy Girl Sanctuary. Tickets are available for the event in New York. If you are unable to attend you can

  • Renee King-Sonnen: Cattle Ranch to Sanctuary

    02/08/2016 Duração: 01h30min

While you're at it, support the show, grab a book with Audible, or start shopping at Thrive Market. Recently we had the opportunity to work with Brother Wolf Animal Rescue at Asheville Veganfest. While there we managed to steal away some speakers for a quick two on one chat. One of the speakers, Renee King-Sonnen, stole the show with her amazing story and amazing energy. After spending sometime talking with her during and after recording we couldn't pass up a chance to have her on the show for a long form interview. Renee's story is not like any other. After marrying her now husband and cattle rancher, Renee settled in to be a typical rancher's wife. Though she always had animal rights and welfare buzzing around in her mind she suppressed the urge to succumb, something many of us have felt and done. In an attempt to follow tradition she purchased a calf with intention to raise to market weight and to be sold for food. While going through the process something began to wake within her and she wasn't able to ke

While you’re at it, support the show, grab a book with Audible, or start shopping at Thrive Market. There’s nothing like have a good friends on the show to talk about their deep knowledge and expertise. Our guest, Scott Shetler, definitely has both. We met Scott through the local vegan channels and Hope and Dave both follow his facebook page as well as enjoy his work in the vegan power and strength community. His work and dedication to an ethical lifestyle while showing what exceptional functional strength training can do for athletes and the average joe alike, is astonishing. We had a great time talking with Scott about overall benefits of functional strength and power training from swimmers, to mma fighters, to those of us that want to shed extra weight and enjoy a healthy life. In true Curiously Veg fashion we managed to detour into discussions about infighting with the plant-based community and Scott’s love to pull some great pranks on his lifting buddies. Of all the interviews we’ve done this is absolute

  • Bite Size Vegan - Emily Barwick: Activist, Artist, Educator

    10/05/2016 Duração: 01h45min

If you're anything like us you spend quite a bit of time on YouTube looking for great channels that you can connect with and provides information that is both useful and entertaining (hey! Just like us!). There are plenty of channels dedicated to a vegan lifestyle but few compare to the dedication of Emily Barwick, also known as Bite Size Vegan. What really attracts us to Emily's work is her wide range of video topics and styles. Her ability to produce a video that can appeal to those who need a "wake up call" and/or cold hard facts sets her apart from the other YouTubers. However, she can usually find a way to let her genuine heart and personality shine which really makes her subscribers loyal viewers. Personally, we've seen and used her videos to answer questions in social media posts and groups because she addresses topics so clear. Along with her traditional, and sometimes silly, videos she also provides a rare service: videos for kids. We know quite a few parent's raising vegan children or working to gui

  • Sonny Mayo - Talking Plant-based and Zen With a Metalhead

    08/03/2016 Duração: 02h06min

It's rare to have the opportunity to have a candid conversation with someone so open and kind as verified metalhead Sonny Mayo. Between his life on the road, recovery, spirituality, and choosing compassion it's hard not to be awestruck and inspired. As a phenomenal guitarist you undoubtedly have heard him play with Snot, Sevendust, or his current band Ugly Kid Joe. After his bout with drugs and alcohol he joined up with fellow musicians to form Rock to Recovery that uses music to aid in the healing for others turning to a life of sobriety. In addition to his music and outreach Sonny spends as much time as he can with other loves, his doGs. I know what you're saying, "You've got a typo there guys!" Find out how to subscribe on your device now! While you're at it, support the show. We took some time off from the interviews this episode to banter about a few things that got under our skin the past couple of weeks. We discussed an article that lists cheese, eggs, and dairy yogurt as healthy fats, “lab grown”/cultured meat, people spreading bad science online, and more. Things get a bit silly from the start, you’ve been warned. CONTEST WINNER There were quite a few entries into the contest for the signed copy of Proteinaholic by Dr. Garth Davis. We’d like to thank everyone who threw their hat into the ring but there can only be one winner: Brian Burkhart! We’ll be in touch soon to get your info! Find out how to subscribe on your device now! While you're at it, support the show. Your hosts at Curiously Veg Radio got a chance to talk with Dr. Garth Davis about his ground-breaking new book, Proteinaholic: How Our Obsession With Meat Is Killing Us And What We Can Do About It. We spoke about the role nutrition plays in a healthy lifestyle, evaluating research, and his own experience with changing his perspective on health and weight loss. Why in the heck do we focus so much on protein? Won’t I get a protein deficiency if I don’t eat meat? What about gains tho?  Shouldn’t we buy foods that contains lots of protein? It’s carbs that make us fat, right? Butter is healthy because Time Magazine said so, and aren’t they experts? We have all asked these questions when deciding how to eat to be healthy and build muscle. It’s confusing and there seems to be a new study or article out everyday that tells us what is the best way to eat, so how in the world can someone tell what is correct and what is profit-driven se
