We go about our lives day-by-day, and miss the fact that there is an enemy who is distracting you from the things of God. This letter helps us to see the evil around us and to focus on a picture of our God, especially seen in quotes from Psalms and the book of Daniel. This insignificant church, compared to Pergamum and Ephesus, is promised the greatest reward of all. A precious promise for all of us today.

Our society has more time saving devices than ever, yet they’re commonly used to fill our time -- every single second. Hopefully you cherish sitting still and being in the company of others, or yourself, or God. Or do you struggle to even sit, feeling more comfortable moving or accomplishing? What would happen if you actually sat still … to breathe … think … listen ... be present … and be God’s?   Jesus calls us to be still and know that He is God. He offers more contentment than our achievements, more peace than our vacations, more joy than our entertainment, and more richness of life than our schedules. This Sabbath, examine hurry-sickness. Explore holy stillness. Experience life as something not to be achieved, but received from Jesus, when we sit still and let Him be God in us.

There are times when it’s easy to see tracks of God’s goodness and other times we fight to hang on in the turmoil in life. The truth of living is that it’s not always easy to see where and how God is at work in our lives. The Psalmist invites us to hear an intimate and heartfelt song, arising from their pain.This psalm provides an answer for what to do when the weight of despair presses down on us. We are invited to catch a glimpse of the unseen footprints of God in the Psalm, as well as our own lives. On the cross Jesus cried out, quoting the first line of Psalm 22, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Was this an admission of defeat? Was God really abandoning him? One of the most profound elements of the gospel is that Jesus won by losing. He gained victory by being defeated. But what difference does that make for us? We will consider Jesus’ use of Psalm 22 and ask some tough questions. What difference does Jesus make in the world, in our church, and in our lives? And how can Jesus give meaning and victory, even when we feel defeated?
