Sinopse

We're Alli & Sam. We met in a pub the night before our first day of library school, and since then we've been through a lot together - classes, jobs, weddings, D&D campaigns - always finding ourselves engrossed in wide-ranging conversations about television, film, books, technology, and what it means to be a young, nerdy, lady librarian in the 21st century. This podcast is our invitation to you to join our conversation. We hope you'll join us by sending in a question, comment, or topic for us to discuss on the show!

Both Sam and Alli have had some leaps forward recently by scoring their first jobs out of library school. Moving from the search through to the interview, we give our tips and advice about what the process looked like for us. We would like to add the disclaimer that this is our extremely subjective view - things may be very different where you are - but we would love to hear what the job hunt looks like from all sides. So let us know what you think!Links: Risk PodcastExtantI Need a Library JobPartnership Job Board (Canada)ALA Job ListIndeed.com Lifehacker - lots of good general tips about application, resume, cover letter, and interview strategiesPEW Research Center

Alli and Sam are interested in two of the summer blockbuster comic book movies, Michael is catching up on some old sci-fi, Emily endeavours to do ALL THE THINGS in Skyrim, and Melanie is getting a jump on some work for the BC Open Educational Resources group. Class Z(ed):We have all been told different things about cataloguing courses at Library School. Some say it is absolutely vital to a well rounded librarian education. Others say it is useless to take a full course - most cataloguing these days is copy cataloguing anyway! Well, this term, the five of us were lucky enough to be in the same Cataloguing and Classification course at our iSchool and we try to answer the question: should library school students take cataloguing? The answer may surprise you! Or not. Depends on how much you like cataloguing, I guess. Links: Days of Future
