Lewis Traditionally Humility is viewed in a negative way, often associated with humiliation, or to be put low. Philip Alley puts forward a more positive definition of humility to be embraced. John Dickson says “Humility is the noble choice to forgo your status, deploy your resources or use your influence for the good of others before yourself.” True Humility assumes the dignity or strength of the one possessing the virtue.

In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul recorded the prayers he was praying for the Ephesian church. In examining these prayers, we find keys that we ourselves should also pray. However in this sermon by John Alley, he explains that these are prayers are meant to be prayed for an entire community of believers, and intended to bring them together into deeper things of the Lord. Take up those prayers of Paul, and add your weight of faith to what God wants to do among us as a people.

John Alley takes us on a tour of several key scriptures highlighting how our knowing of the Lord is they key to all the resources of Heaven. Peter tells us that we have been given everything we need for life and godliness, through our "knowledge of him." It is this personal getting to know Christ that paves the way for spiritual progress, and every good thing.

God told the children of Israel that they were to be a holy nation, and a kingdom of priests. (Exodus 19) He didn't pick the Israelites out only for special treatment at the expense of everyone else in the world, rather He picked them out also for special service on behalf of everyone else in the world. The nation of priests was supposed to be a people who were to serve others and represent God to them. Sadly they did not obey God or follow Him as He asked them to, but the New Testament shows us that now the Church, God's people, are called to be that same holy nation. The apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are that holy people, and we are all priests to serve God. In the same way that everyone has the opportunity to marry, start a family and raise children, we are all called to belong, to serve and to give to God, and from God to others. We represent him. John Alley's sermon on Standing Firm

Last weekend was the 2018 Annual Australian Apostolic Summit, and event running annually since 1997. It was a good weekend with delegates from a number of nations and all states of Australia. This week we listen to six people present at the Summit who discuss things they learned during those sessions.

Continuing on discussing from two weeks ago about the sovereignty of God, and the freedom of people, John now discusses the very personal nature of God. God isn't lying or misleading us in the many scriptures that reveal himself to us as a God with emotions, feelings, and even sadness and anger over things that have happened. He is not immune to what happens, and clearly what humans do does distress and bother God. In considering how God is sovereign, we must consider how he is also personal.

Pentecost comes from the Hebrew meaning fifty, and that number of days after Jesus resurrection, the Holy Spirit fell on the believers. In this message John Alley discusses the pentecostal experience that should be ours as believers. This is not to be confused by cultural or denominational things we are pentecostal, but that which happened to those early believers. We should be people of word and spirit and well grounded in what the Bible says, coupled with the indwelling of God's spirit and all that comes of it.

This Mother's Day Dave Smethurst shared about Mary the Mother of Jesus, and her role in caring for him as a child, and then her experience in having to watch him die. Mary then saw her son raised from the dead, and then lived and ministered in Ephesus with the apostle John who had care for her. Dave Smethurst then went on to share some of his experiences in caring for many orphans in Easter Europe and his evangelistic work with athletes. This is an encouraging message to mothers, but also to all people who love Christ.

John Alley continues on from where he left off two weeks ago discussing the sovereignty of God. How fallen is man really? How much saving do we need? Who does this saving and how much of it is God's work, and how much of it requires our response? These are all great questions to consider, and the Bible has answers.

How do you know God is speaking to you? Why does Jesus say speak to the mountain in Matthew, but speak to the mulberry tree in Luke? Why does Jesus say that the love of most will grow cold? How can the gospel be victorious when the path to life is narrow, and only a few find it? These questions were covered at our first Q&A session at Peace Christian Church.

For the first time in 40 years of public ministry, John Alley discusses the topic of God's Sovereignty and balances both what scripture says about Predestination and God's will on the one hand, against the free choice of people that God has given them. Both are scriptural and true and how are we to understand them?

Certain things trigger our memories. Even the title of this message has most likely triggered us to remember ANZAC Day. This sermon is not about that, but about remembering what God has told us. David Hood takes us on a journey showing things Christ said to his disciples which they forgot, but strangely the Pharisees remembered but did not believe. After all of this we are asked to consider, what has Christ said to us, that we have forgotten and not put into practice?

When the apostle John observed the empty tomb of Christ, he recognized something of Christ and believed. He believed without seeing Christ but believed on evidence. We too have the work of Christ in our lives, and like John can see and believe based on his handiwork. Have you learned to recognise the MO of the Lord in the dealings of your life?

On Palm Sunday, David Alley turns to consider two types of people present during the momentous welcome that Jesus received as King into the city of Jerusalem. Both of these types of people believed in God, and thought they were doing God's will, and yet a key difference separates them. Which type of person are you?

We have the world all around us, we are born into it, and we are called to minister and serve those in the world. Yet the world and its loves are also a temptation to us. Continuing on the theme of what the world is, and why we should not love worldly things, Jonathan Maxwell takes us on another angle in considering what surrounds us, and our attitude to these things. The answer is not to flee the world by isolating ourselves, and also not to surrender to its temptations, but to find grace from Christ in walking between these two places. The present age that Demas loved is different to the present age that we are living in, and what tempted Demas away from God's will may not be the same thing that tempts people today. The question is then, what is the thing that tempts you away from the love of God? That thing is the the "world" to you. In this message David Hood continues delving into what it means to not love this world, by showing that the world may not be the same for each person, and encourages you to consider what is the world to you and surrender that love to God.
