John Alley preaches on the Bread of Life

John Alley speaks about the lack of honour in society towards leaders. It is not only the lack of honour towards God which is missing, but towards people in positions of authority, even parents.

Most Christians believe that they live their lives in accordance with the scriptures, but were they to stop and actually consider this, many might be shocked to find they lack a proper respect of what God says. When the exiles returned from Babylon they trembled at the Words of God, and such deep respect for the Bible is missing in the lives of many people.

Following on from last week, John considers the first place of the word of God in church doctrine, and the authority is has over the life of churches, denominations and believers.

In this message John Alley brought up a box with a mystery item inside. He began to describe the item in various ways asking listeners to guess what was contained within. Those descriptions were so varied it seemed almost impossible that one item could be described in such contrasting ways. This message is about the word of God as both the Bible, and Jesus.

God is an omniscient God, that is he knows all things, even things to come. This is because God is timeless, he is eternal, outside of time, but also in every moment of time, even our futures. His love for us is certain in that He is behind us, and before us, having gone ahead of us to make a way. Our duty is to keep our hearts soft before him. We still have a response to make to Him.

John speaks a direct word about the righteousness of God. Its not popular, or even considered relevant by segments of society to think we need righteousness. Yet scripture says, without righteousness, nobody will see God.

Nobody is exempt from temptation, even Christ was tempted. The apostle James tells us that even though the devil tempts us, there is something inside each of us he uses to entice us to sin. Paul said that we do what we don't want to do, and we don't do what we do want. We need to overcome, but it seems the harder we try, the harder it is to actually overcome. In this message, David Alley shares another way to think about temptation that will help you to overcome. Additionally, he gives four points that have worked for him, in his own experience, and will help you or people in your church also.

In this message John explains how, whilst the Lord has strong heart desires and powerful plans for the things He passionately desires to do everywhere, (including things He desires to do for us, our region and our nation) the only things that do come about are those that we also have a heart desire and passion for. And that heart desire and passion for Him to work must be expressed through prayer. John encourages that there is a great need for us all to stir our hearts to express, with real passion in consistent prayer, our desire for the Lord to do those great things that we envision for life all around us. There are great outcomes to be obtained.

Perseverance is an old fashioned word, and yet still appears in the most recent translations of the Bible. It's not fashionable to tell people they need to "make an effort" as part of being a Christian, and yet in this message John Alley showed how every command has a promise, and how very frequently, promises also come with proviso, or attached condition. So making an effort, is actually still a part of being a faithful follower of the Lord. He wants us to persevere, to seek after Him and to find Him. Everything we receive if by grace, yet in hand with this, the scriptures call for the "perseverance of the saints."
