Kendra is wicked into Oz lore but doesn’t love the latest installment, Wicked for Good. Ken is agnostic, despite having seen the musical on Broadway, thus cementing his status as an Elpha-pal. He hasn’t seeing the first Wicked but will. He also hasn’t the second but won’t. He has seen two more sad movies though, and he sings their glory. Blue Moon, starring Ethan Hawke, directed by Richard Linklater, is a perfect one night chamber piece with Hawke giving an all-time performance. If I had Legs I’d Kick You is Mary Bronstein’s semi-autobiographical black comedy on motherhood in the face of everyday life and the feckless men that just ruin it. Both great! See them! A scattered podcast just like mama used to make. Today Ken talks about actual movies he's seen: Roofman and Die My Love. Both have Lakeith Stanfield. That's one degree of connection!Other topics include Kendra going to Whatcom museum and seeing 600+ stuffed birds. Ken about to read Kendra's favorite book Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton for a book club. Kendra wants to see Eternity based on getting many messages from friends. Ken watching actual movies and engaging in actual cinema. (This is written by Kendra so if it seems not mean enough to Ken that's why.)

Kendra kidnaps Ken and treats him like Moe treated Curley. "Why I oughta," Ken began, "befriend you for life, start a podcast with you, and ultimately discuss the 2025 Yorgos Lanthimos film, Bugonia, with you!" And that's just what he did. He also brought up another movie in theaters now, Jafar Panahi's It Was Just an Accident, an excellent political drama, that is much funnier than you'd expect. It's filled with warmth and humanity, even while contending with very dark themes, such as torture and violent retribution. Ken demands that you all see it. They also discuss Pluribus, a new sci-comedy from Apple, starring Rhea Seehorn, and Starstruck, a 40+ year old Australian movie musical about one girl's dream to be a pop star in 80's Sydney. It all goes well. Nyuck nyuck.

Kendra talks the cool music stylings of Chicago the Musical, which brings back bad memories for Ken as his nickname in college was Mr. Jello-Shame. It didn't make sense then, and doesn't now, but still he must live with it. Kendra also has finished Dracula the book and played Dracula the board game, making her a veritable Dracula-head. She loves everything he's about, except for his reliance on weakly written heroines and blind luck by way of the dice. Ken has seen Bugonia and extols Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone. The movie itself is good, and deserves a looking at, but he does feel it was a bit too contained. Sure it had some of that old Yorgos razzle dazzle, but it needed more...jazz.  Pop six squish byeeeeeee

Ken and Kendra talk cross-country energies and the confusion inherent in the title of their show. Ken has seen The Mastermind, Kelly Reichardt’s latest, starring Josh O’Connor. He wasn’t sure till the very end, but, yup, it’s a masterpiece. Kendra extols Julia Robert’s in After the Hunt, saying her performance alone is worth the price of admission. She also saw The Chopping Mall! Finally Ken talks Mr. Scorsese, Rebecca Miller’s 5-part documentary on Apple TV. It’s long but very much worth it. Marty is a great hang. Hey, so are all of you!

Kendra gave a film a 2 star on Letterboxed and must debrief with Ken about it. They made Mr. Darcy the villain!! Pride and Prejudice and Zombies came out in 2016 which KG did not remember, but looked up after. She stands by it feeling like Gossip Girl, despite being many years apart.Is the audio of this podcast kind of bad.. yes, but on the plus side it exists and therefore is a miracle. Miracles are something Kendra clearly believes in due to religion and her thoughts on sacrament which she brings up. You'll hear us next week with better audio!

Ken and Kendra talk Frankenstein vs Bride of Frankenstein, and shockingly Kendra sides with the man this time. The main issue? The Bride's screen time. The long wait only for only a (very) brief turn for the Bride was too much (little) for Kendra to get behind. Ken really appreciated the downer worldview and the sequel goofiness, especially the performance of Dr. Pretorious, but he gets it. They also talk Edward Scissorhands, Vincent Price and new Naked Gun Movie, The Naked Gun. Things end on uncertain terms, but we will be back next week. Right!?!

Ken and Kendra daliance through the topics at hand. Nothing can hold their attention, except reading. They talk about the books they've been reading, seeing Frankenstein and of course other stuff Kendra can't remember right now, but ideally Ken will send her post haste

Ken and Kendra went to the movies! Separately, but they both saw Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn & Benicio del Toro, and they both loved it. Using somewhat fantastical context, and certainly neither pedantic nor perfect, it is a clear view of the fight at our door, and a reminder of what’s at stake. It’s also a damn funny action flick! Ken and Kendra are caught stealing…glances through a wild movie theater experience! Join them as they discuss it in detail, it being both the movie and the gum that stuck to Kendra’s pants! Spoiler warning! After the 15:30 mark spoilers begin and they talk about certain major events in the film. Still, they tend to lean heavy on vagaries, as they are wont to do. Either way, it’s a fun time about one topic! They tried to stay positive and they did, except about the movie or the theater experience. But as a hang? What a time!

The Kens are back and they get all chummy. Kendra watched the 1934 classic It Happened One Night and it reminded her of Spaceballs, a childhood favorite. Ken also saw it somewhat recently and it reminded him of Bugs Bunny wearing lipstick. They also discuss Clark Gable, Bill Pullman and Young Frankenstein, and imagine the both of them wearing lipstick. Remember, Peter Boyle played Frankenstein’s monster. But he would also be cute in lipstick. Then Ken steers them through the latest slate of movie in theaters today, like Honey Don’t, Caught Stealing and Splitsville among others. Why haven’t they seen any of these? Is it because none of them have Clark Gable eating a carrot? They discuss.

The Kens are all over the place with this one. Kendra continues her streak of reading about hungry children, and she’s found a hot new video game she couldn’t wait to share with everyone. The game, Tiny Bookshop, shares her taste in non-fiction by Edith Wharton and gothic romances by one of Brontë sisters. Which Brontë sister? We will never know. Ken introduces Ken’s Quibbles, his attempt to right polite society’s wrongs. Does he sound like an asshole? Kendra politely says no. He also discusses some disappointing recent beach house movie watches, Fear Street: Prom Queen innocent of course.

They discuss Kendra’s descent into madness, aka reading The Hunger Games and thoroughly enjoying it, very normally. They then dive into Spike Lee’s latest joint, Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington, and swim in its Brooklyn Bridge. There are some spoilers but nothing too bad. It’s a Rap Battle Royale and the winners are the listeners, and Jeffrey Wright. Is Kenbliss Evergreen anything? Ok, Enjoy!

Is this a Gilded Age wherein one may want to Marry My Husband? The Kens hope so! Plus, they discuss the movie Weapons and the other movie, Urban Legend. If it wasn’t clear, they also discus a J-drama called Marry My Husband. It’s the only way that the first line of this paragraph makes sense, not syntax wise but contextually. Yep, the ep is more of this sort of nonsense? Please do your part and listen?

It’s a TV and comedy potpourri with Kendra and Ken rambling on and blathering about The Gilded Age, The X-Files, Too Much, Happy Gilmore, The Naked Gun & more! Much like a well-appointed scent dish, this discussion is chock full of dead flowers and suspect spices. Do they have a 'two degrees' connection this week? Yes! Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age) and Will Sharpe (Too Much) have both been on White Lotus. Do they mention on the show? No, because they’re cowards and lack mettle. But what they lack in integrity, the more than make up for in their acuity for vacuity.

You know that we are living in a Materialists world and we are Materialists Kens. Ken and Kendra are back, and this time they actually explain what that means, at least a little bit. First, Kendra tells Ken about The Summer I Turned Pretty, which is weird, because that was before she’d ever even met me. Ken takes her word for it. Then they discuss Celine Song’s new genre-bending, or - avoiding, minor hit Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, & Pedro Pascal. The drama is heightened, literally.

Eva is Victorious in Sorry, Baby and Clark is Serving Kent in Superman. Kendra and Ken return to the podcast under a slightly different name, playing a similar type of game! As before, they’ll be jawing at each other inanely about subjects so varied and different as two recent widely released movies. This week they talk Sorry, Baby (spoilers start at 5:45, end at 28:30) and Superman (spoilers start 31:00, end at 48:30), two movies about which they had a lot to say.
