Geoff Peters - Jazz Piano Practice Recordings

From Geoff Peters' family home in 2011, listen to some ambient sounds of the celebrations as well as Geoff tinkling the Steinway ivories playing "The Christmas Song".

New Endings Old Beginnings is a tune I wrote while jamming with the amazing drummer Colin Defreitas. I perform it here, for its world recording premiere, as a solo piano rendition recorded on a late 1950's Steinway. It has an extended improvised intro and then a haunting main melody that starts about half way through. I'm putting in a few Chick Corea influenced lines which I really like.

In this practice, I work on starting to learn the Upper Structure chords as described in Chapter 14 of the Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine, on the tune "O Christmas Tree".

In this practice, I work on reading the tune "Gregory is Here" by Horace Silver, from the Real Book chart. I then work on learning Close Your Eyes in a kind of calypso style.
