Red Mud and Rolling Hills

Bo is a tad upset about his vintage Trans Am getting scratched. Once that is off his chest, the gang takes a few shots at the Spartanburg, SC sheriff. They then weigh in on the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl commercials. Yes, they discuss the stupid Coke commercial controversy. Lisa and Dawn try to convince Bo that the Carolina Panthers are his home team and he is therefore obligated to be a fan. In fact Lisa and Dawn, in a show of sisterly solidarity, gang up on Bo throughout the entire episode. They do mention the death of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman but only as a segue into a conversation that shows how very little everyone at the table knows about the actor Liam Neeson. It is when the gang discuss the viral picture of the double toilets in Sochi that this tyypically comical podcast turns into the gross-cast as the gang takes toilet humor past the point of no return. This episode is all about family. This podcast is the first one we recorded since we lost our Father in November. We are not at the point of talking about that experience on the podcast but it will come eventually. With all the extra visiting with family we were encouraged to make a podcast that everyone could listen to. The reason some of the family don't listen to the podcast is because of the bad language we use. A debate on what constitutes bad language can be had at another time. We made an earnest effort to curb the foul language for the first 20 minutes but progressively through out the podcast we seep into our old ways. There is actually not that many curses in this episode but the subject matter is quite a different story. In fact, if the family listens past the 20 minute mark they may actually be more offended than if they just listen to previous episodes. Bo sleeps through the Bristol race, again. Lisa tries to convince Dawn that Bristol is the best race of all NASCAR. Bo and Lisa discuss the ups and downs of three dollar moonshine. Elizabeth tells us about her big ole college books. Bo and Dawn try to describe the hotness of Apocalypse Leonard's home grown peppers. Bo accuses Elizabeth of being high on Peyote only to find out that none of them knows what Peyote really is. Everyone is mean to Elizabeth and it is hilarious. Together, they say dude about 300 times. Listen and enjoy.

Dawn, Bo and the gang make sure they announce that they are all against littering the beautiful highways of our great state and then proceed to each tell stories of the ONE time when littering was a must. Lynzee brings home a handout listing things one should NEVER say to a child which sparks a pretty one sided discussion on it's validity. Jim explains why skinny people look taller than fat people. Dawn outlines her two simple philosophies for life that anyone can follow. Bo wants to know if vagina's really make you stupid. Everyone weighs in on PTSD and Vietnam flashbacks. Mostly, Dawn trashes and spoils Elysium. Listen and enjoy

This may well be the most serious episode yet. Dawn and Bo take a hard stand against texting and driving. They pontificate on Paula Deen and sexism. Don't worry though, Dawn and Bo can't really ever be serious for long. They discuss a few less than practical solutions to sexual harassment and weigh in on bathing in a river. Dawn sees a beat up Opossum which sparks a discussion on road kill. Bo expresses his love of Applebee's. They slam country music and fast food. Of course no Red Mud and Rolling Hills podcast would be complete with out a mention of the apocalypse. Listen and enjoy. 

Dawn experiences something so terrible she questions her desire to even survive the Apocalypse. Bo and Dawn finally finish the Charlotte story. The gang share stories from their younger, less fortunate days. Dawn defends Danica Patrick against the negative comments of Kyle Petty. Bo defends Dale Earnhardt Jr. against the negative comments from Jim. Bo and Jim lay down a serious bet for the rest of the race season. Listen and enjoy.

South Carolina made national news this week so Dawn and Bo share their opinions. A new Walmart opened in Bo's hometown which is the source of much excitement. Bo and Dawn welcome Bo's long time friend Steve to the podcast. Jim and Lisa round out the roster this week. Bo finally gets around to sharing stories from his little league football days. The gang took a trip to the Coca Cola 600 and make every attempt to share the experience. Listen and enjoy.

Bo finally got to go to Talladega and delights us all with the hilarity that comes with such a trip. Dawn gets in a few words here and there. Their home state of South Carolina voted in Mark Sanford for a state held office and they both have plenty to say about that.  Dawn’s male English Bull Dog died a few weeks ago which brings on a few good dog stories. Dawn explains why she has found herself becoming a Carl Edwards fan and Bo explains to her how she is wrong. Listen and catch up with these two after their extended break. Bo turns 38 on the 18th the day after this recording. He starts his celebration a little early, which becomes more evident as the podcast progresses.  Dawne’s son Michael, who celebrated his 20th birthday on the 13th,  makes his premier appearance this week. Elizabeth and Jim also join the team making this a full episode. Jim and Bo trade insults. Dawne gets caught not paying attention to the race. The Gang bounces from Potty Training to Star Trek to Racing to South Park to Air Soft and back to Racing again and all the while making plenty of inappropriate jokes in between. Listen and enjoy.

Elizabeth returns to the Podcast this week attempting to school her elders on teenage vernacular. These three discuss texting, Mayberry, Carnies, and Communism. Yes, they do manage to work in a little NASCAR talk. Well, Bo talks NASCAR and Dawne makes South Park and Waterboy references. This week Dawne and Bo talk about Racing. And why not, they already have the accents! Danica Patrick's rookie status in NASCAR caused Dawne to revisit her former interest in the sport of racing. Dawne tries in vain to convince Bo to be a Ford fan. Bo tries in vain to catch Dawne up on what she has missed over the past 15 years. They both try in vain to stay on subject. Listen and enjoy.  

Part two of the Kitchen round table. Jade and her elders experience a few generational gaps. Dawne tells of how she exerted the power of being the eldest over her brothers. Marybeth tells us why her brother likes prison. Bo tells us about his Mississippi family. Danwe figures out why her nerd seems to show more with age. The group even shares a few prostitution stories. 

For the next two episodes Dawne and Bo sit down with their spouses and some special guests for hilarity yet unmatched on the podcast. Dawne's husband Jim makes his debut appearance. Jade also makes her first appearance. Marybeth and Lisa return. This episode is a no holds barred conversation held at the kitchen table. It doesn't get much more southern!

Bo tells us a story that starts off with a beer run and ends up with a cannabis experiment. Dawne goes off on eggs. Seriously,she really hates eggs.Dawne explains how Bo's job is ruining her life and Bo holds Dawne's feet to the fire over a broken childhood promise. Both explain their difficulty with good byes. 

Bo and Dawne do not disagree that typically Southerners can't drive in the snow but Bo lays down a challenge for non-southerners to come and drive in the red mud of our foothills. Dawne shows her command of the english language by using "stupid, stupid" to describe everything on this podcast. Dawne has a beef with reality TV and does not mind expressing it. Bo's middle daughter is a very candid deep thinking teenager and has always been able rope the adults in her life in to some kind of adventure. Bo and Dawne swap a few Jade, stories. Though the threat of the apocalypse is over they also manage to throw a zombie snow man into the mix. 

Bo’s wife Marybeth and daughter Elizabeth join us for episode 8. Elizabeth starts this episode out with a dirty joke that embarrasses the hell out of Bo. Marybeth and Elizabeth give us their plan for the apocalypse. Marybeth reveals how cheap she really is and we get pretty analytical about the Nascar Awards. Bo and Dawne relate stories that only the ups and downs of gainful employment can make. Bo gets schooled on bras. Dawne tells a pregnant lady a lie that makes her go into labor.  The missing part from Ep. 6 is also included. Also, who would freeze a Whopper? Listen and Enjoy. 

Everywhere they go mayhem seems to follow, even if they attend a police academy graduation. Dawne and Bo discuss Smokey and the Bandit, robots built to change tires and the monkey that makes sure children take naps. At the age of 7 Bo sacrificed his index finger for a racing poster of Richard Petty, which must put him high in the running for the most dedicated lifelong race fan. We talk about that incident in this episode. We also pontificate on the holidays, movies and fat people. To make things even more interesting we throw in some smack talk about Nature. Nothing is safe from our scathing comentary. Our sister Lisa joins us at the end to put in her two cents. She also takes a little ribbing!

Episode 4 brings you tales of Bo’s lucky belt buckle and Dawne’s trip to the flea market. We compare notes on growing up with out air conditioning and with hillbilly medicine. There is no better cure for a sore throat than a drop of turpentine in a spoon full of sugar. Listen and enjoy!
