What's a Podcast with Brendan Kennedy and CB Wilkins

If you guys have listened to this podcast, you know Dustin.  If you haven't listened before, Dustin is great at voices, a friend of Brendan and CB and funny as hell.

We got together at Cozzy's Comedy Club in Newport News, Virginia to wish off our good friend Dustin Noack as he prepared to move to New York City.  Featured on this podcast are CB Wilkins, Holly Owens, Brett Mounce, Ed Phillips and more!  Mean things were said, laughs were heard.  It was What's a Podcast!

Nate Izquierdo is a stand-up comic from Richmond, VA who moved down to Hampton Roads to work with a local brewery.  CB and Brendan get to know Nate very well.  Very very well.  Better than they maybe needed to.  Nate is generous in this way.  The guys drink beers from Nate's brewery and have a blast.  If you only know this podcast  from comic con, you might be surprised a little bit. 

This is finally the podcast CB has always wanted to do: one without Brendan.  Brendan had to leave Tidewater Comic Con early, but the show must go on.  CB teamed up with his pal Deryn to continue to document Comic Con for our listeners.

Brendan and CB performed in last year's Tidewater Comic Con and enjoyed it so much, CB got them a booth at the con this year so we could take it all in and broadcast as much of what a con is like as best we could.  There's cosplayers.  Kids.  Nerds.  Friends of the show.  It's a serious good time and it makes me want to go again just describing it.  Since they were there 2 days, this podcast covers the first day of the experience.  Our next episode will be day 2 of comic con.  It's great fun.  It's What's a Podcast!

This week we finally got to some audio recorded in 2015 at Cozzy's Comedy Club in Newport News.  The Sunday Funnies show is ran by our own CB Wilkins.  It's a chance for local comics to stretch their legs for a slightly longer set that allows them to hone new material and longer bits.  This episode has stand-up comedy footage from CB, Garret Barnes, Alicia Camden, and Patrick Jensen.  As if that wasn't enough, we sat down after the show and had a little bit of a roundtable discussion with Holly Owens, and Jeff Simmermon in addition to Garret and Alicia.  It's the closest you'll ever come to listening to comics and hanging out with them afterwards.  It's What's a Podcast.

Sometimes in comedy you start working with someone new and very quickly it seems like they've been there with you the whole time.  That's the way it's been with Ed Phillips.  What started as a curiosity into short form improv has led to his becoming a regular at the Cinema Cafe weekly improv show, his becoming a member of Plan B Improv and dabbling in stand-up... and now podcasting!

This week we have guest Garret Barnes on.  Garret has been on the podcast before but we haven't heard from him in a while.  He was living in New York City, but has come back to Hampton Roads for a while.  Garret talks about the New York City stand-up scene, the difficulties of same sex dating, and life in general.  It's What's a Podcast!

This episode was recorded on a new device.  As such it took us extra long to get the episode off the SD card.  Not because it's particularly difficult, but because it's a different process and we're pretty lazy.  This episode is just Brendan and CB, and they talk about Thanksgiving, Jessica Jones, CB's eventual doom, the usual.  It was a lot of fun to record.  Sorry it took so long!

This week, Brendan, CB and Dustin get together and catch up.  Dustin is living with new people and has just ended a relationship.  CB confesses dark secrets.  Brendan has traveled across the Atlantic.  Obviously, the only logical title for this podcast is the Fetty Wap Episode.

This week Brendan and CB didn't have another comic on.  They didn't have just an episode by themselves.  They brought in a bad ass kung fu doing feminist photographer.  Seriously, this conversation ranges from kicking ass at concerts to discussions of inclusive feminsm.  Your brain will explode.   It's What's a Podcast.

Patrick Jensen is a young comic who hasn't been doing stand-up long but has had some great material.  At 17, Patrick is the youngest person to ever be on the podcast.  As such, we were verbally abusive to him and did our best to find out what makes someone get on stage to do stand-up comedy at the age of 17.

This week, Brendan and CB are just hanging out with the two of them.  No interviews, just conversation between these two guys.  We talk classic pop punk, Brendan's upcoming trip to Ireland and everything in between.  There's even a gorey story about an unexpected hole in CB's leg.  It's What's a Podcast.

This podcast begins with a special upcoming show announcement!  Then we go to our podcast we recorded with Joy Julian, AKA The Chesapeake Charmer.  Joy has been a fan of the podcast for a while and wanted to be on for a while.  Having finally been invited to participate in the proceedings of this program, Joy initially regretted it.  Being a mother, wife, teacher and librarian, Joy is a decent human being who clearly doesn't belong with degenrates like Brendan and CB.  After a while, Joy loosens up and we get to know her, where she's from and a little bit about who she is, including a bout with breast cancer she went through.  This one was a lot of fun to record.  It's What's a Podcast!

Lately we've been having some technical difficulties with the podcast.  We'll try to record one bit of podcast and then some of it will get erased.  This might seem like a bad thing to most podcasts... lucky for us and our listeners, we've managed to keep a lot of good stuff.  This week has an introduction from an episode where Brendan and CB were recording without a guest.  Then we have segments we recorded with Travis Carl, who talks about comedy, his upcoming move to New York and a lot more.  It's here, it's there, it's everywhere, it's What's a Podcast!

Jesse Thomas was a fixture of the Richmond comedy scene for many years.  His dry wit and baritone voice make him difficult not to like.  On this podcast, we get to know what makes a person into Jesse Thomas... his parents, his upbringing, moving from Northern Virginia to Richmond and back again before moving to New York City.  Also, Jesse talks about the pilot he's shooting in August, Who Needs a Slap?, where he's making it possible for grievances to be aired and resolved in the way we'd all like... with a good old fashioned slap in the face.  To sign up, check out NeedASlap.com!  So much on this episode of What's a Podcast!

This episode we had Josh O'Brien on.  Josh is the host of the Josh O's Radio Show Podcast, a stand-up comic and a Navy Seabee who has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.  The podcast gets off to a shakey start due to technical difficulties, but from then it gets rolling quick.  Brendan talks about his wedding, Josh talks about divorce and building roads in a war zone, and we all remember Sean Malec who recently passed away far too soon.
