Wandering Universe

Episode 30 of Wandering Universe.  Oh be a fine guy/girl kiss me.  This month is all about winter star colors.  No need to untangle a string of holiday lights and fumble around, just go outside and enjoy nature's display.

Episode 29 of Wandering Universe.  A shorter episode this time talking about what you can see in the autumn sky.  The hunter's moon is on the wane for the rest of the month.  Also covered are a couple of news stories.

Episode 28 of Wandering Universe.  In this episode I talk about a few news stories from last month and where to find some nice solar system objects.  Also I talk about the best part of September: Summer and Autumn constellations!  You can see some of the best of the Milky Way and then later see our neighboring galaxy Andromeda.

Episode 27 of Wandering Universe.  This episode is the first of the new monthly format.  I have had so many things going on in the last couple of months but I didn't want to kill off the podcast!  This episode talks about Juno and its arrival at Jupiter as well as some more nice summer stuff.

Episode 26 of Wandering Universe.  Another short episode this time. Since we're on the subject of summer, this show focuses on one of the season's most plentiful objects; globular clusters.  What are they?  News niblet about LIGO and the What's Up segment round out this last 2x monthly episode.  From now on Wandering Universe will be a monthly show, coming out in the first week of the month.

Episode 25 of Wandering Universe.  Another short episode this time, still due to medical reasons.  Summer stuff is coming so I'll talk about four constellations announcing its arrival.  One tiny news niblet about SpaceX and the What's Up segment round out this abbreviated episode.

Episode 24 of Wandering Universe.  Short episode this time due to medical reasons.  A moon washed sky is a good time for casual gazing at the moon, planets and double stars.  In news niblets I cover a couple of stories involving exoplanets.

Episode 23 of Wandering Universe.  This month Mercury will transit the sun.  Last episode will explain how to safely have a look.  This episode will focus on some fainter things to see while the moon is mostly out of the picture.  News niblets include more news from SpaceX, an interesting find in the solar system, and sad news from Japan.

Episode 22 of Wandering Universe.  Next month is when Mercury will transit the sun.  This episode will explain how to safely have a look at our big ball of hydrogen fusing nuclear power safely.  Also a little news out of SpaceX and a little news out of the past. (Also, this really is episode 22 not 21 as I say in the intro!)

Episode 21 of Wandering Universe.  With the waning, then crescent moon this half of the month it's a good time to look for those spring galaxies I talked about last month.  In the news, Japan's Hitomi space telescope is in trouble and Jupiter took a slight beating.

Episode 20 of Wandering Universe.  Can you talk about all 110 Messier objects in 11 minutes and 30 seconds?  I can!  Listen to it right here.  I also talk a little about Fast Radio Bursts and plans for a possible space telescope coming out of China in the next decade.

Episode 19 of Wandering Universe.  This is a bit of a short episode where I talk about the sky transitioning from winter to spring.  I also talk a bit about some old news from the far side of the moon as well as the a bit of progress in the possibility of observationally detecting "Planet Nine."  This is also my first podcast recorded with my new recording setup based on Linux.  I'm pleased with it!

Episode 18 of Wandering Universe.  Continuing on with the short tour of the planets that I wrote back when I began not this podcast but my old one, "What's Up This Week".  This is part two of two episodes covering Jupiter through Pluto.  I also talk a bit about the gravitational wave news and a couple of other items.  I have to apologize for the audio quality in this one.  Apparently capturing CD quality audio through a USB microphone on a modern computer smoothly is asking too much of Windows 10.  Despite the clicks and pops I hope you enjoy this slightly late episode.

Episode 17 of Wandering Universe.  Since there are a slew of planets visible I thought I'd revisit and slightly revise a short tour of the planets that I wrote back when I began not this podcast but my old one, "What's Up This Week".  This is part one of two episodes covering Mercury through Mars.  I also talk a bit about the "Planet Nine" news and a little about the recent near-miss of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket.

Episode 16 of Wandering Universe.  This episode mostly focuses on observing the big bright beautiful moon.  I also have some interesting news about postage stamps, a strong man, and the end of the world.  This one was recorded while I was a little tired so if I sound a bit run down, it's because I was!

Episode 15 of Wandering Universe.  Interesting solar system stuff is happening but it's all happening in the early morning hours!  This episode is a look back on the biggest events of 2015; The New Horizons Pluto flyby in July and the arrival of Dawn at Ceres.  I also talk a bit about the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope.  Happy New Year!

Episode 14 of Wandering Universe is a bit shorter than usual due to the fact that it's proving to be a hectic month but I'd rather focus on good content then episode length.  Quality over quantity in other words.  I'll cover a news niblet about Ceres and talk about the anniversary of one of the longest running and important missions.  This episode's topic is winter open clusters.  There are many of them but I just cover a few to get you started!

Episode 13 of Wandering Universe where I apologize for having a short show and actually mean it this time!  I'll cover a few interesting news niblets and also give a quick tour of some of the season's prettiest lights, that is, carbon stars!

Episode 12 of Wandering Universe where I apologize for having a short show but it turns out to be longer than any I've done recently.  Also that dreaded day is coming, black Friday and I have a message for you about not buying cheap department store telescopes.  Spoiler alert: don't!  Oh and I also talk about what's in the sky and cover a tiny niblet of news.
