We're 9 out of 10 in reviewing this year's Oscar nominees after diving into Nickel Boys, a film that has us discussing its form primarily with a very unique POV camera style. Pairing it with Sing Sing, a film that just missed that Best Picture nomination list. Adam Beam joins us and one of the two films is near or at the top of his best-of-2024 list. We finally sink our teeth into Oscar-frontrunner The Brutalist with the help of new guest, filmmaker Cris Olvera. By pairing it with The Childhood of a Leader, we've now tackled all of Brady Corbet's feature films (including Vox Lux back in episode 88). How did we feel about the 3.5 hour epic Brutalist? How many roads must Dylan walk down before anyone figures him out? We brave the hard rain with two films: Mangold's new A Complete Unknown and Haynes's I'm Not There. One's a distillation; the other a deconstruction. Musician, filmmaker, and music festival organizer Jimmy Willden is the perfect hurricane to help us make sense of what's blowin' in the wind.  A couple of beers from Meanwhile Brewing and Martin House Brewing Co. are there to get us tangled up in booze.

Happy N(osferat)ew Year! Our first episode of the new year brings new Eggers (!!!) so guest Josh Deleon is here to ecstatically discuss Nosferatu. We pair it up with 2000's Shadow of the Vampire for a little double Defoe and double Noz! Guys, it's the best episode of 2025 (so far). Beers by Martin House Brewing and 903 Brewing. 

"The Most Dangerous Film Shoot of All Time" is the tagline for Roar, the 1981 can't-believe-they-made-this passion project filled with jungle cats, untrained actors, and hospitalizations. The natural pairing with Mufasa: The Lion King. Adam Beam returns to mix it up with beers from Oddwood Brewing and another Goose Island Bourbon County.

Is one reason for the season new Christmas films? We tackle two new holiday streamers with big stars and big directors: Ben Stiller's Nutcrackers (Hulu) and Jack Black's Dear Santa (Paramount+). Y2K! Dumb, satisfying fun or an apocalyptic mess? Kyle Mooney's directorial debut is paired with an out-of-nowhere treat: Brigsby Bear (2017). This Mooney-starring film turns out to be the best surprise of the week. Comedian Blake Trevino stops in to chop it up, and we drink two great beers from Sierra Nevada and Jester King.
