National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed by Zehra Mamdani for an article she wrote as a student for the Columbia News Service, on February 26, 2008 - Part 1.  Earlier, in January, 2008, the writer had a media request for that article she wanted to write. The subsequent interviews seemed to go positively. Her article, "Polygamists Hit the Web in Search of 'Sister Wives'" was posted on February 19, 2008, and it was picked up by many other news sources.  Blind-siding the National Polygamy Rights Movement for Unrelated Consenting Adults as well as Mark Henkel himself, the writer's article contained many negativities that needed to be corrected.  This episode is the first part of the discussion in which Mark Henkel sought to help the writer make needed corrections.  Mark Henkel explained how the media routinely has lied about UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, and how that was why polygamists (and he) had to routinely be on the defensive against such untruths and mi

Over the prior years, the Oprah Winfrey Show had aired a number of episodes about "the dark side of polygamy." Each time, Mark Henkel had routinely reached out professionally to the show to clarify that those spots were damaging to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy.   The producer was insistent that their show was so great, even pretending the extreme exaggeration that they supposedly got "hundreds of thousands of letters" from fans thanking them.  No matter how sincerely Mark Henkel tried to help the producer understand, the producer refused to hear it; she began using passive aggressive tactics to suggest false accusations about Mark Henkel.  Mark Henkel kindly pled to be heard, "We are saying, and you can choose to deny it if you want, but we are saying that your particular show has

Bypassing the media request ticket system, the producer had directly called a confidential number to Mark Henkel. When she was asked about it, her unwillingness to be open about how her company had received the telephone number led to a perception of her gaslighting from the start. The Oprah Winfrey Show had aired previous episodes about "the dark side of polygamy" and Mark Henkel had regularly reached out professionally to the show to clarify that those spots were damaging to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. Mark Henkel tried to help the producer understand, but the producer instead chose to insist that their show had been positive, and then she began what was perceived as even more gaslighting. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed (again) by Grant Cross, Development Producer for Jupiter Entertainment, on November 28, 2012. This was the second interview with this TV production company that produces series for networks, including TLC. In the first, more comprehensive interview two weeks earlier, the producer said that he would pitch Mark Henkel and the project. Mark Henkel thereafter kept trying to reach the producer for answer to that possibility. Once Mark Henkel reached him by telephone, the producer said that TLC had told his production company that they were aware of Mark Henkel, but that TLC was looking for someone who had specifically been a professional matchmaker for polygamists. TLC and his production company had concluded that there is no such person.  When Mark Henkel replied by mentioning the polygamy personals site, 2Wives.com, the producer said that he had to go make a skype call. He asked Mark Henkel to call back “in one hour.” Mark Henkel was never able to rea

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Grant Cross, Development Producer for Jupiter Entertainment, on November 15, 2012.  This was a TV production company that produces series for networks, including TLC.   The producer said that his company was excited and seeking to create a new reality TV series of a matchmaking show for polygamists.  The producer had seen the videos of Mark Henkel and realized that both Mark Henkel’s topical knowledge and animated presentation style could be a great fit as host for the show.  The producer also acknowledged that Mark Henkel’s unique contribution to such a show as both on-air host and topical consultant could acknowledge/compensate Mark Henkel with both a “Talent credit” as well as “Consulting Producer credit.”  The interview concluded with the producer ready to go pitch Mark Henkel and the project to his higher-ups and beyond.  What happened next?  That will be aired in the next episode of this podcast.   h

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Colt Straub, a producer for The Idea Factory, on August 28, 2007.  The company was a TV production company that produces "docu-series." They had created a past series for TLC and had the current interest of Bravo network, Sundance network, and more, for this project. In the Summer of 2007, Mark Henkel was receiving too-numerous "circus act requests" by the media, with many being quite hostile. For this reason, Mark Henkel was strongly protective of UCAP (Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy) families when this request was made. The producer presented himself positively and did try to make assurances that his company would be respectful toward the topic and would not be, as the producer called it, "exploitatious." Mark Henkel replied, "The question is whether it is going to be advantageous for us to do." The producer was seeking for what Mark Henkel termed as a media "circus act request," seeking to do a documentary to put on display a family in UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The Producer conducted herself positively, friendly, and perhaps a little "schmoozy” in a good way. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by producer Ron Mitchell for the Bill O'Reilly Show on FOXNews television network, on September 14, 2006. In early September, the producer had made a media request. Mark Henkel attempted to call the producer 12 times, leaving a voicemail on the 2nd and 12th attempts. The producer finally called back. He asked the question backwards that, if UCAP (Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy) was "allowed" by government, would that not mean that same sex marriage would have to be allowed too.  Mark Henkel gave his famous soundbite, that the question to consider is not whether such things are "allowed" but that government is not allowed to "disallow" what unrelated consenting adults choose for relationships, that it's a "Freedom of Assembly" issue.
