NDOW Provides Funding for Shooting Ranges

This funding also creates more facilities to host Hunter Education classes. We are currently accepting applications for this grant program. 2019 Elko Sportsman's Expo
08/02/2019 Duração: 25minThe Nevada Department of Wildlife is teaming up with the Elko Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation for two days full of outdoors fun at the Elko Sportman's Expo. The event takes place Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elko Conference Center. The event will have a Kids Activity Room and about 40 booths in the main hall featuring non-profit conservation groups, food and drink, and outdoor retailers. Sheep Show and Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience 2019
01/02/2019 Duração: 26minOne of Northern Nevada’s largest outdoor and hunting expos is almost here! The Wild Sheep Foundation Convention and Sporting Expo better known as "The Sheep Show" takes place Feb. 7-9, 2019. The exhibit hall features more than 400 exhibits featuring guides and outfitters from around the globe plus top of the line retailers selling gear, guns, art, taxidermy and other outdoor items. Also part of the event is the Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience (YWCE) portion of the show, with more than 20 different hands-on learning stations designed to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife conservationists. Precautions to Take Before Heading Out on the Ice

NDOW to Hold Multiple Wild Game Cooking Classes

Culinary Center to host two separate classes on February 23 that will give participants tips and techniques that will get their game successfully from the field to the table in meals they’ll be proud to serve family and friends. The first, starting at 10 a.m., we're organizing with help from the Wild Sheep Foundation, and will focus entirely on teaching kids how to cook wild game. The second, which starts at 2:30 p.m., is for adults. Participants will get to sample all recipes. NDOW's New License System Year in Review

This came at the same time as our License Simplification program, when we streamlined the process of purchasing a license by eliminating stamps and offering modern, mobile-friendly methods to purchase, possess, and present licenses. The goal was to make it easier than ever for outdoor enthusiasts to get into the field! NDOW Uses Citizen Science Project to Track Moose in Nevada
04/01/2019 Duração: 26minA few months ago NDOW shared a video Facebook follower Katherine Schripsema captured of a moose walking through sagebrush in Wells, Nevada. The video quickly became NDOW's most popular social media post of 2018. We received comments from people expressing their surprise at a moose being seen in Nevada. We also received more than a dozen messages from other Facebook followers sharing pictures and videos they've captured of their own moose sightings in the state. The videos popularity even inspired NDOW biologists to start a citizen science project to better track Nevada's moose populations. In this week's Nevada Wild, Ashley Sanchez and Aaron Keller sit down with NDOW Big Game Staff Specialist Cody McKee to talk about growing moose populations in the state, how citizen science is used to better understand the species, and what you can do to help.
