EP 76: It's a Disaster II
23/01/2023 Duração: 02h38minWhile the world falls apart around us, Jeff and Richard focus on two specific disasters. In San Francisco, a fire rages out of control in the world's tallest building. In New York, a meteor splinter decimates the city. It's going to take more than your regular hosts to cover what's happening, so we've invited some special correspondents. Yes, we're discussing the pinnacle of 1970s disaster films, The Towering Inferno (1974), and what some would consider the nadir, Meteor (1979.) Among the first-time viewings and revisits of your podcasters, you'll find much agreement, but also some surprising conclusions. Don't forget to check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. EP 75: Val Lewton
12/12/2022 Duração: 02h02minJeff and Richard discuss the life and films of producer Val Lewton, with a deep dive into two of his "less popular" movies, The Leopard Man (1943) and The Curse of the Cat People (1944.) For the first, they're joined by director William Friedkin (The Exorcist)... well, sort of. For the second, they're joined by historian William K. Everson... well, sort of. . While your hosts agree on their opinions of the films, they disagree on whether or not it matters that The Curse of the Cat People is supposedly a sequel to Cat People (1942.) What do you think? In either case, these films are a revelation and you'll want to watch then again after you hear the discussion! . Don't forget to check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. Put images to the voices... if you dare! Scratch that. Jeff lost the video portion, so it's simply the voices... with a lot more pictures and clips than usual... . EP 74: Day of the Frogs
14/11/2022 Duração: 02h18minIn this month's meeting, Jeff and Richard descend into the sub-sub-genre of "eco-horror," which falls beneath the umbrella of "natural horror," a popular sub-genre of the 1970s. These two films in particular make a great double feature because there not about just birds or rats or snakes or bats taking revenge on humans... all of nature is cranky. In Frogs, the titular amphibians don't really kill anyone... or do they? And in Day of the Animals, the most damage is done by our canine friends. Yeah, the movies are flawed. But, man, are they fun! EP73: Never Say, "Nevermore"
10/10/2022 Duração: 01h47minFor the Halloween 2022 club meeting, join Jeff and Richard as they partake in a double dose of The Raven, one from 1935 and one from 1963. Although both feature Boris Karloff, they're very different films, as are the feelings toward one of them between your two hosts. They stop short of fisticuffs, but one is caught off guard by the reaction of the other. No worries; it's the most wonderful time of the year, so no hard feelings... EP 71: Foggy Phantasm
15/08/2022 Duração: 01h57minFor our final trip to the drive-in this summer, we visit the Grand Island Twin in Grand Island, Nebraska, circa 1980. At first, there’s a thick fog, but when it clears, you can see a silver sphere zooming toward your forehead. EP 70: The Godzilla with Two Heads
25/07/2022 Duração: 01h56minIn what is perhaps one of the oddest double-features Jeff and Rich have ever encountered, the two brave podcasters face Hedorah (the Smog Monster) and the temporarily decapitated head of Ray Milland. During the respective running times of their films, both monsters evolve in ways possible only in the early 1970s. . Spoiler alert if you didn't know: pollution and racism are bad. Yes, these movies have messages! Occasionally heavy-handed, but always fun, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster and The Thing with Two Heads are worth watching if you haven't seen them. Still not sure? Then listen to what Jeff, Rich and their special guest have to say... . Don't forget to check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. Put images to the voices... if you dare! . EP 68: Sinbad
23/05/2022 Duração: 02h25minThis is a very special episode as we're joined by one of the stars of, not one, but two, of the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad films: Kurt Christian! Kurt went from the hero Haroun in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), to the villain Rafi in Sinbad & the Eye of the Tiger (1977.) He has great stories to tell about the making of the films and even has a thing or two to say about our first film, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958.) . Thanks to Steve Turek for hosting the conversation and sharing it with all of us. You can listen to a full interview with Kurt Christian on episode 34 of the DieCast Movie Podcast: . https://podbay.fm/p/diecast-movie-review-podcast/e/1601833132 . EP 67: Lon Chaney
04/04/2022 Duração: 02h17minLon Chaney once told Boris Karloff, "“The trick in this business is to do something totally different from the rest so they’ll take notice of you.” . This month we celebrate the birthday of the great Lon Chaney, "Man of a Thousand Faces." You already know him from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Phantom of the Opera, but get to know him from He Who Gets Slapped, The Monster, and The Unknown, as we celebrate his life and career. . EP 66: Quatermass & the Podcast
07/03/2022 Duração: 02h09minWe're back and ready to launch into cosmic adventure with Professor Bernard Quatermass! In 1955, he performed an "xperiment" of The Creeping Unknown. In 1957, he returned in a sequel (or is it a prequel?) to face an Enemy from Space. And in 1967, he went into the pit to encounter alien grasshoppers that travelled Five Million Years to Earth. . Which one is your favorite? Can you rank them like Richard, or do you have issues with commitment like Jeff? Please join us for the discussion. It's the one thing that may save us... and humanity. . EP 65: 5th Anniversary!
10/01/2022 Duração: 02h31minWow! It's been five years since Jeff and Richard sat down in front of a microphone and recorded their conversation about King Kong (1976.) 64+ episodes and more than 150 movies later, they're still plugging away at it. Who knows if they sound any better, but they're still having fun... . To celebrate, they concoct a theme for movies with the word "Five" in their titles: Five (1951), DImension 5 (1966), and Devil Times Five (1974.) Three different decades... three very different movies, but each a "classic" in its own special way. . Check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. They also mention the other movies in the set: Sherlock Holmes & the Deadly Necklace (1962) and Challenge the Devil (1963), as well as the Polish television series, Theatre Macabre (1971.) EP 63: Naschy November
15/11/2021 Duração: 02h36minIt's Naschy November as Jeff and Richard discuss the life and career of Paul Naschy, focusing on three specific movies: Vengeance of the Zombies (1973), The Mummy's Revenge (1975), and The Beast & the Magic Sword (1983.) They disagree on which one is their favorite, but not on the fact that, while Paul Naschy films may be an acquired taste, they're often a delicious Eurohorror feast. . EP 61: Satanic September
20/09/2021 Duração: 02h43minThe power of Satan compels you... to listen to this month's episode of The Classic Horrors Club podcast! You'll learn how, at the peak of 1970s "Satanic Panic," three movies had more in common than simple devil worship: The Brotherhood of Satan (1971), The Devil's Rain (1975), and Race with the Devil (1975.) . Jeff and Richard have one of their biggest disagreements about one of them, but escape the podcast without bloodshed. The latter laments an abundance of stupid decisions, while the former insists there wouldn't be any movies without them. What would Shatner do?!? (or Lara Parker?!?) . While you're wearing your robes and chanting, check out the video companion on our YouTube channel, now with our very own URL: https://www.youtube.com/c/ClassicHorrorsTV. 16/08/2021 Duração: 03h28minJeff and Rich travel through time and space once more for the summer. This time, it's the Riviera Drive-In in Oklahoma City, OK, circa 1977. The monsters are on the revolt and the world is on the brink of destruction as we watch Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster (aka Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla), Kingdom of the Spiders, and Night of the Damned (aka Messiah of Evil.) Along the way, we welcome our dear friend and kaiju expert Jonathan Angarola, revel in the awesomeness of one of the best "nature gone wild" films, and dive deep into the fascinating making-of story of an unintentional horror classic. We highly recommend you also check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. It contains content (movie clips, bonus features, and outtakes) from the audio podcast that you don't want to miss! EP 58: Back To The Drive-In Pt. 1
21/06/2021 Duração: 02h44minIt's that time of year and your backyard isn't the only place where the creepy crawlies come out at night. On a hot summer night in 1957, the South 29 Drive-In in Charlotte, NC, was invaded by giant spiders, preying mantises, and crabs. . Through the magic of modern technology, Jeff and Rich travel not only halfway across the country, but also 64 years into the past, to attend the drive-in and watch big monsters on the big screen: Tarantula (1956), The Deadly Mantis (1957), and Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957.) . Will they survive? Will you, when you listen to this month's episode of The Classic Horrors Club Podcast? You also don't want to miss our video companion on YouTube, especially this month, because if you like hearing the sounds of the drive-in, you're going to love seeing the sights...

EP 57: George Zucco's Secret
17/05/2021 Duração: 02h15minThis month we return to a classic horror profile with the star of Dr. Renault's Secret (1942), Fog Island (1945), and Lured (1947), George Zucco. Known as a "spellbinder" on stage and "one-take Zucco" on screen, George Zucco carried a magnificent presence, but was always a gentleman. . Although he was a neighbor of Lionel Atwill, they didn't share the same social life. Nevertheless, the author of Hollywood Babylon II claimed Zucco's final days were just as scandalous. What really happened? Jeff and Richard will set the story straight (with a little help from printed reference materials called, "books.") . We also invite you to watch our companion episode with highlights, bonus features, and outtakes on our YouTube channel. If you like what you hear, you're going to love what you see! Check it out and give us some feedback... both on the podcast and the video. .
