Trick or Toolbox (Halloween Episode)
31/10/2019 Duração: 32minSend us a text This year's Halloween Special delves into the disturbing case of the Toolbox Killers. What lessons can we take from their terrible crimes? At first glance this seemed like a simple case of be wary of approaching drivers when walking alone and the dangers of hitchhiking. The Way of the Shark Part I
20/10/2019 Duração: 25minSend us a text The great grappling art moved strategically through Brazil towards North America, propelled by ambition and a drive to be successful. The schools were just accessible enough to permit a rush of middleclass students in South America and a select few Hollywood celebrities in California. There was little other motion other than raise attention through combative efficiency in challenge fights, reinforcing the art’s dictum; a message that would be shouted far and wide across martial arts subculture...This episode the Clubb Chimera Martial Arts podcast dives into the world of ground-fighting. At the beginning of the 20th century it was viewed with disdain by the martial arts world by the century's end Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art that focused on submitting opponents on the ground, had become a worldwide sensation. Part I of "The Way of the Shark" looks at why ground-fighting was despised and how that view allowed it to become a secret weapon in the unarmed duel. Clubb Chimera Website Clubb C

12/08/2019 Duração: 46minSend us a text The second part of these special extra podcasts features Ron Goin with two guest commentaries on tropes/cliches that affect both martial arts subculture and martial arts movies. Ron provides insight into the corrosive effect of belief in mysticism had undermined martial arts. He then focuses on the hackneyed device of the lone man martial art bar brawl.Regular podcast host, Jamie Clubb, explores discusses how magic is a legitimate part of martial arts history and tradition, but has no place in pragmatic practice. He also looks at the way indestructible martial arts fighting styles both sell martial arts short and have now become an increasingly tired element of martial arts fiction. Tracing much of this to the legacy of the iconic Bruce Lee, he puts it that Enter the Dragon is both the Little Dragon's best and worst martial arts movie. Vagabond Warriors Workshops July/August
08/06/2019 Duração: 03minSend us a text Finally the Vagabond Warriors Workshops are here! I am on here to quickly talk about my upcoming Vagabond Warriors martial arts cross-training workshops this summer. These three hour intensive training sessions will cover Clubb Chimera’s approach to cross training. Each workshop will focus on a certain martial art discipline or concept and then we will train different ways to use it to add to, replace, compliment or enhance techniques from other martial arts as they best suit you. We will be working primarily towards the incorporation of martial arts into self-defence or mixed martial arts, which allows quite a broad area to work. I will be limiting the number of students so that we have a more focused approach on training specific areas. These workshops were originally designed for my private clients as a means for meeting up, training with one another and setting personal goals, but I have opened it up to anyone who would like to attend allowing other martial artists who are interested in my

The Way of the Ape Part I
27/05/2019 Duração: 19minSend us a text There are two erroneous arguments made about martial arts evolution. The first one is made by those who believe that the art they train is a perfect preservation of an historic or traditional fighting system. The second one is made by those who believe that newer martial arts will always be a positive progress on what has gone before. This episode and its sequel looks at the concept of evolution and the various ways it can be applied to the development of martial arts. The Way of the Wolf Part I
10/02/2019 Duração: 23minSend us a text The wolf is a powerful icon and metaphor, used to exemplify a particular type of predator. . Wolves and humans have long shared hunting grounds, resulting in the extinction of wolves in some regions of the world and the earliest domesticaion of a species of wolf in the form of the dog. Human society has cast "The Big Bad Wolf" as the leading symbol for the main villain of any narrative. Balanced against this, humans have also derived many positive attributes from the wolf. However, amidst the confusion between metaphor and fantasy, other ideas have fed into the human society. This has ended up in the martial arts and self-protection subculture. This episode takes a critical look at Gavin de Becker's book "The Gift of Fear" (and the mainstream culture that promoted it) in exploring human predator warning signals, revealing the disturbing fact that the very same warning signs self-protection teachers recommend their students look out for in offenders are also being used to recruit students to the
