This is a different type of book for us, more of a paranormal urban fantasy romance. And we loved it! We loved this alternate reality world where shifters and paranormals were exposed following the unfortunate election of a certain president and now the world is struggling to deal with the results of that revelation. We have Joe, a shifter who was caught murdering mobsters and is not on trial for his life and Neha, his lawyer who is trying to defend him. When they first meet the attraction takes them both by surprise and as they navigate the dangerous underground world of shifter mobsters they fall deeper for each other. The sex is intense from the very beginning and the action is explosive. It has been a few years but we finally are getting back to a book by Lisa Manifold. This first book in the Oracle of Wynter series gives us another main character in her 40’s similar to the Betwixt series and the Midlife Bounty Hunter series. This book is a fun and unusual romance novel. On the surface, this book reads more like a typical murder mystery as Selene and Aiden investigate the current unexplained attack in Brimrock and its potential connection to an unsolved murder from the past. But as they work together to finger out what is going on they also begin a budding romance. This book is totally a slow burn as we get all the early stages of a new relationship from coffee dates to drunken frolics in the snow. Unusual for a romance, we even get a super awkward disappointing sex scene. Don’t worry, as the murder mystery wraps up and the unexplained supernatural occurrences are solved, Aiden and Selene give it another chance and both finally get their sexy fireworks.
