Jesus offers an unnamed Samaritan woman the gift of living water to quench her deepest thirst and to provide true and lasting satisfaction. This living water is salvation that secures freedom from shame and freedom to worship. In offering her salvation, Jesus shows himself to be the Savior of the world, who has come to cross all boundaries and to bring all peoples into God's Kingdom to worship God in Spirit and truth.

In his conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus shows that entrance into God's Kingdom is not through self-righteous religiosity, but through spiritual regeneration by the Holy Spirit. Each person must be born again. In order to experience the new birth, one must repent of self-righteousness and believe in Jesus as the loving Savior.

Jesus begins his public ministry to manifest his glory through signs, miracles, teachings, and authority. In this chapter, we will read about the sign at the Wedding at Cana and the cleansing of the temple in Jerusalem. Jesus as the Messiah inaugurates the Kingdom at hand with power and authority by providing new wine and a new temple (his body). Therefore, His Kingdom demands both faith and surrender.

John the Baptist faithfully carries out his role and testifies that Jesus is the Christ. As the Christ, Jesus is the promised King who rescues God's people by laying down His own life and by pouring out the Holy Spirit. Witnesses of Christ are those who rightly see Jesus and then joyfully invite others to also see Jesus.

Jesus is the Word. As such, He is the eternal and divine Creator who is the source and sustainer of life. He is also the victorious Savior who secures the right for people to become children of God. And He is the unique Son of God who takes on humanity and ultimately reveals the Father.

God speaks to us through the divinely inspired Scriptures. As such, Scripture is perfectly inerrant, supremely authoritative, and powerfully transformative. If we want to cultivate a right vision of God, we need to be a people of the Word.

God is holy, but God is also one who is near and who dwelt among us. God the Son put on flesh to become our Great mediator, savior, and friend. God knows us fully and wants us to know him as well.

For God to be sovereign simply means that God has total freedom. He is not restricted by any greater authority. Rather, in his sovereignty, God actively supervises all things and purposefully succeeds in all things. As such, we have hope especially in seasons of suffering and we gain courage to boldly take risks for God's Kingdom.

Holiness is not just one attribute of God, but it is the attribute that undergirds all other attributes of God. In his holiness, God is uniquely set apart and God is morally pure. In light of God's holiness, we should respond in worship, grow in holiness, and pursue after justice.

God is not some abstract, amorphous higher power, but God is triune. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – eternally existing as three persons sharing one divine essence. Far from being a nerdy theological doctrine that is irrelevant to our lives, the Trinity impacts everything, especially the Gospel. The Gospel starts with the Trinity, is carried out by the Trinity, and leads us to the Trinity. May we marvel at our God who is triune!

As we embark on this theme of God's Vision for 2025, we recognize that rightly seeing God's vision starts with rightly seeing God. So we are starting a series on the Theology of God and exploring his nature, character, and actions. This Sunday we will begin with the existence of God. Our faith is not a blind leap but rather firmly entrenched with compelling evidence and rational hope. And this faith and right vision of God provides answers to life's biggest questions.

To quote Pastor Andy Stanley, vision is a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction of what should be. But what makes vision distinctly Christian is that God is at the center of it. A God-ordained vision starts as a burden stirred up by God, eventually feels like a moral imperative given by God, and is always in alignment with God's Kingdom purposes. The reason why cultivating such vision is so important is because vision provides direction for life, protection against burnout, and motivation to make sacrifices.

Paul gives his final instructions and exhortations for this growing church. He enourages them to endeavor in prayer and to walk in wisdom. Lastly, he emphasizes the importance of community and teamwork as he recognizes his friends and partners in ministry.

The Apostle Paul wraps up his section on how the Gospel shapes households by addressing slaves and masters. In doing so, Paul is not endorsing the institution of slavery, but instructing Christians on how to faithfully operate within that pre-existing system while also subtly undermining the entire system itself. Through this passage, we see that regardless of our specific jobs, we are all ultimately working for the Lord. As such, we should work with integrity, excellence, and perseverance.

The Apostle Paul addresses how Christians are to live and relate to others in the context of their own households. While we are made new in Christ and brought into a new spiritual family, that doesn't mean we ignore or reject our natural families. Rather, the Gospel is to deeply shape how Christians are to relate to one another in the home, especially as husbands/wives and children/parents. The relationships in our households are to be marked by a mutual love and service for one another, all under the lordship of Christ.

After instructing the Colossians to put off the old self, the Apostle Paul now instructs them to put on the new self in Christ. Putting on the new self involves having the peace of Christ rule among your relationships, having the word of Christ richly dwell within your heart and mind, and having the name of Christ be glorified through your life. Rather than being a burdensome obligation, putting on the new self in Christ is our great privilege and joy.

After addressing the false teachings and pointing them to the centrality of Christ, he now lays out on how they may walk and live worthy of His calling. He exhorts them to put off the old self now that they have been united as one under God's salvation. He reminds them of that old life in which God has delivered them from and encourages them to put to death any and all vestiges of that old self. In order to do this, he instructs them to set their minds on things above and to fix their eyes upon Christ.

Paul directly addresses the false teaching that was spreading in Colossae, which had elements of legalism, mysticism, and asceticism. We face our own contemporary parallels that seek to draw us away from Christ. But by being rooted in Christ, we find true redemption, true spiritual maturity, and true strength to battle our flesh.

Paul shares about the suffering he has and is going through as a minister of the Gospel. However, he surprisingly says that he rejoices over his sufferings and that is because his sufferings reveal the mystery of the Gospel to others, help others mature in Christ, and help guard against false teachings. An unavoidable aspect of Gospel ministry is suffering. But we can joyfully embrace hardships, sacrifices, and inconveniences because God is at work through those things to make Christ known.
