The Gospel of Jesus Christ has set us free to abide in the Word for the rest our of lives. This is the truth that sparked the Reformation that we celebrate today.

This week we continue where we left off last week. Jesus encounters a man who asks what he needs to do to be saved. Last week we talked about what it meant to be "good". This week we hear Jesus' conversation with his disciples after this encounter about what is most important.

Who do you think of when you think of "good" people? We have all sorts of qualifications that makes someone good. We typically think of this "goodness" as getting us to a great reward when we die. In our text today, Jesus reminds us that no one is good except God, but that it is good news because it is our only hope!

The first verse of today's text tells us to pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. This will be our main thrust for the sermon in understanding how we pay closer attention to what it is that we have heard.

Jesus comes down from the Mount of Transfiguration and finds himself in a intimate conversation with a father and his very sick son. The father, upon being challenged by Jesus, offers up a peculiar statement that many Christians can relate to in their own lives.

The Apostle Paul speaks of a Cosmic Battle taking place in the book of Ephesians. This battle is why he encourages us to wear the whole armor of God, so that we will be equipped, every day, for a battle that lasts for the rest of our lives.

Jesus had an interaction with a crowd concerning bread. Jesus, being the Word Made Flesh and speaking God's word, tried to lead these people into working for the true bread from heaven that endures to eternal life.

Today we will take a look at one of the many miracles performed by Jesus in His ministry. In this particular miracle Jesus feeds over 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and two fish. The focus will be on the result of the miracle, and what it means for us today.

The words we choose to speak always have an impact in varying degrees to those who hear them. When we speak the Word of God it also has an impact, as things tend to get personal when God's Word is proclaimed. It was this same way for John the Baptist when he spoke to King Herod, and nothing has changed for us today as God's disciples.

We will consider two events that take place in the ministry of Jesus. Jesus ministers to a woman with a disease, while on the way to help a sick and dying little girl. Jesus not only makes them well in their temporary life, but also in the life to come.

Today we celebrated the Nativity of St John the Baptist and reflected on the important message that he brought as well as the imporant message that his father, Zechariah, brought at his birth.

Often we like to hide our sins from God so that we can avoid the consequences. The good news, however, is that we can take our sins to Jesus because he has already nailed them to the cross and promises forgiveness for all.
