Scripture speaks of God dwelling in unapproachable light, and yet His love for mankind draws them to Him. Derek looks at how this love of God took on flesh with light inside in the person of Jesus, so He could draw near to them.

Derek begins this Christmas season study on the love of God by stressing the need to know the One from whom it comes. We can only know God as Father if we know His Son, Jesus Christ. This love is so vast. Paul prayed for believers to have a revelation of it, as he continued all his earthly life seeking to know this One, and exhorting all to follow after him.

Derek closes this week’s study with the assurance that if we have given all we have to the Lord, He will share all that is His with us. We are joint heirs with Jesus, and have the Holy Spirit within us testifying that we are God’s children. As we share in Christ’s sufferings, as well as His glory, we know He will be with us through it all.

In today’s study Derek looks at the story of Elijah and the widow who was called upon to bake him a cake using all the meal and oil that she had left. As she did so, her provision was miraculously multiplied. In this illustration, we can see that as we give up all we have to the Lord in faith, He will return back to us far more than we had.

Derek explains just what opening the door means. When you hear Jesus knocking, you must respond in some way. To not respond is to leave the door closed to Him. Derek shares with us how to respond—to receive and open the door for the new birth.

Today Derek looks at ways God speaks to us—whether it comes by the voice of the Holy Spirit, an illumination of Scripture, through other people, or through God’s creation. God is not limited in how He speaks to us, we just need to have our senses tuned to hear Him.

Derek begins this week’s study from Revelation 3 by highlighting the fact that Jesus is speaking. He points out that whoever hears His voice must be the one to open the door for Him. Jesus said that His sheep hear His voice, so those who hear Him knocking are part of His fold. They need to respond with action.

In this final study on this topic, Derek talks about our need for resting, and letting God choose what is best for us. Instead of worrying and being anxious we need to learn to trust our heavenly Father to take care of us, as He has said He would. If we truly want God’s best, we will leave these choices to Him.

Today Derek looks at the eternal—that which can’t be seen, and the temporal—that which we can see all about us. The temporal is passing away and will leave us empty, but the eternal is where God and His promises can be found. These are what He has for us if we keep our eyes on that realm, and not on current circumstances. If we chase after riches they will flee and leave us destitute in the end.

Continuing with the theme of hearing the Lord, Derek stresses our need to be discerning of what and how we hear. Where is our direction coming from? Is it scriptural? We cannot just accept any impression as being godly, or from God. Choose your friends and associates with care.
