  • Ep. 87 – Batman Beyond – Hidden Agenda

    04/01/2020 Duração: 30min

A brand new decade means a new series to kick off the new year at the DCAU Review. Cal & Liam return to the future Gotham and pick right back up where they left off with the Batman Beyond episode entitled “Hidden Agenda.” This one has the Good Brothers feeling like it’s a bit of a soft-reboot for the future Batman, as the character of Max is introduced and Bruce Wayne is noticeably absent. The hosts also discuss a change in tone and a lack of depth and motive for the new Jokerz introduced while appreciating some of their design elements. Plus they discuss the Max character and if you should really be rooting for an unknown character to discover Batman’s secret identity.  All of this, plus a discussion on how #DanaDeservesBetter and the return if a familiar member of the voice cast along with a full breakdown of the plot and a complete scorecard for this week’s episode on an all-new DCAU Review! • Ep. 82 – BTAS – Night Of The Ninja

    30/11/2019 Duração: 32min

Episode 82 is here and it finds the Good Brothers wrapping up their stay in the retro-futuristic Gotham City of Batman: The Animated Series. This week the boys review “Night of the Ninja”, a tale that sheds some light on Bruce Wayne’s past and part of how he trained to become the Batman. Our hosts discuss the choice to make Kyodai Ken’s motivation go beyond straight revenge, another reference to a Batman ’66 plot device, more fleshing out of the Robin character, why Bruce was needlessly secretive about the Ninja and the uncharacteristic respect paid to Japanese culture found in this cartoon compared to others at the time. • Ep. 81 – BTAS – The Laughing Fish

    23/11/2019 Duração: 30min

As we move through the month of November, Cal & Liam have been on a bit of a hot streak as of late, with multiple episodes landing in the coveted “Top Picks” section here at the DCAU Review. This week the Good Brothers look to add to that with a Joker tale adapted from two different comics and written and produced by the dynamic duo of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. This week’s episode covering The Laughing Fish discusses how Paul Dini’s unique writing style is a perfect fit for a Joker story, how the ridiculousness of the Joker seeking a patent is, more light shed on the Joker and Harley relationship explored and several memorable performances in voice acting and why one of our hosts believes this is the PERFECT Joker showcase. • Ep. 80 – BTAS – Robin’s Reckoning Part I & II

    16/11/2019 Duração: 51min

In the 80th year of Batman’s existence, it’s only fitting that the 80th edition of the DCAU Review covers the origin story of one of the Caped Crusader’s greatest allies, the Boy Wonder, in the episode “Robin’s Reckoning.” The Good Brothers discuss the perfect storytelling of a pair of murders while keeping the episode kid-friendly, some of Loren Lester’s best work in Batman: The Animated Series as Robin, excellent shadow work and some inconsistencies in the animation, some insight into scenes cut for time and a soundtrack that accentuates the climatic ending of the episode. Could all of this praise lead to this episode joining the “Top Picks” category? Find out on this edition of the DCAU Review! • Ep. 78 – BTAS – Eternal Youth & Perchance To Dream

    02/11/2019 Duração: 39min

The month of November is here, and Cal & Liam kick off a month of Batman: The Animated Series reviews with a double feature! Never before have there been two polar opposite episodes featured on one podcast as the Good Brothers discuss the episodes “Eternal Youth” and “Perchance To Dream.” First, the brothers have what can only be described as shared disdain for a bizarre episode featuring #MyAlfred and the never before seen or heard from again Maggie. The brothers are fairly harsh in their criticism and comparison to a lost Batman ’66 episode but this episode does bring about the largest score disparity to date and for only the second time in DCAU Review history, a point deduction! Up next the guys discuss one of the most universally loved episodes where we learn what it would be like if Bruce never put on the cape and cowl and instead lived solely as Bruce Wayne. Cal and Liam talk about some great subtleties in the soundtrack, the psychology of Batman’s ability to be happy, and talk f

Cal and Liam discuss "New Kids in Town" on this week's show, an episode that takes place in the future 30th century and then heads back to the past of rural Kansas to visit young Clark Kent in Smallville. The Good Brothers ponder as to why Brainiac has never utilized Kryptonite, why the villain going back in time is such a familiar trope this Legion versus the more recent versions, a lack of Legion theme son, the unique design of Chameleon Boy, Pa Kent being dumb again Brainiac's cosmic sled, the age-old red underpants vs. no red underpants for Superman's costume and much more!
