07/01/2010 Duração: 01h00sDeardra interviews legendary vibraphonist Roy Ayers about his upcoming January 16th concert entitled "Roy Ayers 40th Anniversary Concert," held at the Black Spectrum Theatre located in Queens, NY. An R&B bandleader in the 1970s and 80s, Ayers became one of the forebearers of acid jazz. Well known for the song "Everybody Loves the Sunshine," Roy formed the Roy Ayers Ubiquity band in the 1970s, recording albums for Polydor and working with such greats as Miles Davis, the Herbie Hancock Sextet, Sonny Fortune and Omar Hakim. Later he collaborated with Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti whose life story is presently on Broadway in the play "Fela." Ayers has several pop records that garnered commerical success and charted singles on the R&B charts for both Polydor and Columbia.

Under the artistic direction of Igor Moiseyev, the company gave its first performance in 1968. Its repertoire consisted of excerpts from classical ballets and choreographic miniatures produced by such choreographers as Vinogradov, Goleizovsky, Messerer and Moiseyev. They are performing the Nutcracker Suite on Sunday, November 29 at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts.
