A global response to loving like Jesus
01/12/2018Reading: Mark 5:21-34The spirit of Christmas is about the one who, though he was rich, became poor, so that we, through his poverty, might become rich!Jesus made it really clear in Matthew 25 that when we give to those in need we are actually giving to him - not a bad idea for his birthday! Why not at least match what we give to ourselves and family and friends with what we give to Jesus by giving to those in need. Our partnership with Baptist World Aid in Nepal is one way to do this and Mark Purser will be sharing more about this on Sunday.

Fruit of the Spirit — Gentleness & Self-control
24/11/2018FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT OverviewThere is nothing more attractive and engaging than a life that looks like and acts like Jesus. When we live God’s way, when we are walking with Jesus, working with him, watching how he does things, inviting and welcoming the Holy Spirit to have the run of our lives, the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives. The mix of fruit includes affection for and commitment to others, exuberance about life, calmness even in stormy times, a willingness to stick with things, feeling with and for others such that we are moved to act for their wellbeing. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way but rather able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. There is absolutely no law against any of these things. During this series we will consider each of the nine aspects of the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 and how we can continue to nurture it.

Psalm 42 — A Psalm of Lament
06/10/2018PSALM OverviewThe Psalms are 5 volumes of a Jewish Songbook. They were written first of all to be sung. The 5 books are carefully arranged so that they mirror the story of Israel from the period of David until after the exile into Babylon. Although the Psalms can be read and sung as an individual, they are also to be considered with an awareness that the individual is part of the people of God. They are filled with affirmations of the writers and singers about God as well as expressing the breadth of human emotions that are experienced in the course of daily life. There is a rawness and honesty that is both disturbing and encouraging.Week 4: October 7 A Psalm of Lament Psalm 42Psalm 42 heads up Volume 2 of the Psalms and introduces us to the tension we often live with when there are longings to experience all that God wants for us but somehow we are missing it and things are going pear shaped and our emotions are all mixed up and we feel discouraged, sad and depressed.
