  • The Good Book — Why we can trust the Bible

    25/08/2019

THE GOOD BOOK: WHY WE CAN TRUST THE BIBLE Overview Why would someone trust a book written thousands of years ago by human hands? What has it got to do with life today in Australia? How can you possibly believe that it contains words from God to humans? You might have asked these questions or had people ask them of you. These and many other questions are thrown at the Bible every day. The question is, does it actually hold up to scrutiny? If we’re going to shape our lives around it’s words, how can we know it’s trustworthy? Our guest speaker, Andrew Bawden, has wrestled with these questions himself over the years. This Sunday he’ll be sharing some of the answers he’s found along the way.

  • More Than Me

    18/08/2019

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FISH Overview In an age of uncertainty it seems perfectly logical to seek security, comfort and assurance where possible. But how are we to respond when care for our own interests and security are put at risk so other people might experience flourishing in their life too? What are we to do when it seems as if we must choose between personal comfort and the comfort of others? If God’s concern is as great for the individual as it is for the world, what might it look like to adopt a ‘more than me’ attitude as we seek to follow Jesus? The answers might be more empowering and liberating than you might think Key Scripture Jonah 4:1-11

  • When God Uses Bad News for Good

    11/08/2019

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FISH Overview Most of us hate uncertainty. We struggle with unexpected change. We feel confused when things don’t go the way we expected them to. Interestingly, however, these scenarios have this weird tendency of pushing us into better mindsets, healthier practices, or wiser choices. It seems that so often good emerges in the midst of a challenge. Jonah’s story in the Bible reflects exactly that. What is God able to do? The possibilities can exceed even the most vivid of imaginations! Key Scripture Jonah 3:1-10

  • Help!

    04/08/2019

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FISH Overview It can be said that we often learn the most about ourselves, not when we are at our best, but when we’re at our worst. Yet, when we’re at our worst or stuck in our disappointments and failures, it can be hard to know how to respond. Do we reach out, or continue to retreat? How do we find hope when we’re at rock bottom? As we continue in our series ‘It’s Not About The Fish’ we’re going to take a look at the experience of Jonah, who hit rock bottom and chose to call for help. What happened next? Come along on Sunday to discover the next compelling chapter in the story of Jonah. Scriptures Jonah 1:17-2:10

  • Vocation: What if I’m in my second choice world?

    21/07/2019

VOCATION OverviewVocation is a word rooted in the Latin word ‘Vocare’ (to Call). Many times people treat the word “Vocation” as interchangeable with job or career. Vocation is so much more. Many Christians only attribute the word calling to Church or certain not for profit roles. This is not a biblical view of work. Join us over the next four weeks as we explore the idea of finding meaning, purpose and even the will of God in your workplace.Vocation – Week 4 (Sun. July 21)“What If I’m In My Second Choice World?”Sometimes life takes us to places we don’t want to go. When this happens vocationally, it can create a great deal of stress and concern for both the present and the future. Whether it is a job that didn’t deliver or a career that isn’t working out the way you expected. When we land in a place we did not sign up for, how can we find God’s purpose and presence? Join us this week as Chris Danes unpacks some ways to locate Vocation in the midst of workplace confusion.

July 7) “No Compromise” – Cam Cormack Sometimes when we go to work, we can be tempted to leave our faith at the door. One of the truly difficult aspects of working in a world that does not know Jesus is that we can easily get sucked into the world’s values rather than the values of Jesus. From rampant consumerism, to vocational idolatry. Many are the pitfalls of being immersed in the workplace 5 days a week. Join us this week as Cameron Cormack shares some wisdom on how to maintain your integrity in a workplace that does not understand your faith.

  • Vocation: Pursue a Calling, not a Career

    30/06/2019

VOCATION Overview Vocation is a word rooted in the Latin word ‘Vocare’ (to Call). Many times people treat the word “Vocation” as interchangeable with job or career. Vocation is so much more. Many Christians only attribute the word calling to Church or certain not for profit roles. This is not a biblical view of work. Join us over the next four weeks as we explore the idea of finding meaning, purpose and even the will of God in your workplace. Vocation – Week 1 (Sun. June 30) “Pursue A Calling, Not A Career” “A job is a vocation only if some one else calls you to do it, and you do it for them rather than yourself!”[1] Many Christians mistakenly think that the most significant reason God has placed them in their workplace is purely behavioral (“I need to share my faith in word and deed”). What might it do to our work practices and attitudes if God actually chooses to reveal himself through the work of our hands? Can our calling bring glory to God and blessing to humanity no matter what we do? Join us th

  • Pneuma: Gifts of the Spirit

    19/05/2019

PNEUMA Overview Week 3: Gifts of the Spirit Chris Danes One of the great ironies of Christian History has been the great debate and acrimony around the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some of these gifts are clearly supernatural and some are not. What is the difference between natural gifts and gifts of the Spirit? and how can we facilitate the best use of both? Join us this week as Chris Danes unpacks why the gifts of the Spirit are so important and how to use them in such a way as to honour God, and each other. Key Scripture 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 27-31; Romans 12:3-8

  • Pneuma: How to be filled with the Holy Spirit

    12/05/2019

    PNEUMA Overview Week 2: How to be filled with the Spirit When the disciples were filled with the spirit on the day of Pentecost, remarkable things seemed to happen. People came to know Jesus. People were healed. The community of believers grew exponentially. All down history when the Holy Spirit moves among the people of God, these sorts of things tend to happen. Many Christians wish to have these outcomes in their lives, but by their own reckoning fall well short. How can we make more room for the Holy Spirit in our lives? Is there anything that blocks the Holy Spirit? Is there anything that opens the way? Join us this week as Bill Brown looks at some of the hindrances and helps in being filled with the Spirit. Key Scripture Acts 4:31; Ephesians 4:25-5:2,18;

  • Pneuma: The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

    05/05/2019

PNEUMA Overview Week 1: Who is the Spirit and what does the Spirit do? Bill Brown One of the things that Jesus promised the disciples as He left them, was that he would never leave them or forsake them. He promised that although he would be leaving bodily, the Holy Spirit would still be available and present to them. What did Jesus mean by this? Who is the Holy Spirit, and what does the Holy Spirit do? Join us this week as Bill Brown unpacks Jesus promise of the Holy Spirit to the Disciples and its implications for our lives. Key Scripture John 14:15-27; 16:5-15

Join us as we walk ‘the passion’ with Jesus and His disciples and learn again what it means to FOLLOW. BIG IDEA: The many wrongs that made us right. God is in the habit of taking all that is evil and all that is bad, and somehow, miraculously, bringing good from it. From the sidelines, the heinous betrayal, and crucifixion of Jesus looks hopeless, pointless, and totally without light. Believe it or not, the darkness is where the dawn can shine its brightest. Join us as Bill Brown takes us through the darkness of the cross, and shows us where the light shines through. Key Scripture John 18-19
