Party Favorz is back with one of our bucket list items that move us from the Ultimate 90s House Classics into the millennium. I took a different approach to this series, which immediately becomes obvious with the title. First, I started with 1999 because it is possibly one of the best years in dance music history. Many of today's biggest hits have reworked samples that have been turned into massive anthems for a new generation of partygoers. Everything from the late Paul Johnson's "Get Get Down," "Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo," "9 PM (Til I Come)" by ATB to "Around the World (La La La La La)" by ATC and "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eifel 65 have been plucked from the dance music annals breathing new life into the originals. Heck, even our lady Bey's smash album "Renaissance" is packed with samples from bygone eras. The other thing you'll notice is that this first set spans 4 years. The ATL has finally started to cool down while Party Favorz keeps heating up with our annual Fall Edition! I decided not to make everyone wait another week for this drop because I was able to get a couple of major things out of the way earlier in the week. A lot is going on in this set that features something for everyone. Of course, we've got all the latest circuit hits and pop hits remixed for the circuit, but I'm starting to pull in some mashups for this series and a couple of unexpected 80s throwbacks threw me off track but were so good they had to be included. As promised, Party Favorz is delivering a double-header this weekend with the Disco House release of Keep On Dancing. This one's for all the rump shakers and those with a more sophisticated palette when it comes to getting their groove on. There's a lot to unpack in this one-off set completed in a single sitting. The music pulls from the latest NuDisco, House Music, Soulful, Jackin House, and Deep House tracks to not only keep it flowing but diverse. It's time for the Saturday drop for our Peak Hour night dwellers. Turn Out the Lights is a heart-pounding set dripping in sweat that features some of the biggest bangers in Tech House, Bass House, Breaks, and Techno. We have come to the end of Madonna's birthday month celebration and this last offering is a doozy! So much so, that I had thrown everything including the kitchen sink into this set and decided it was a bit much. Never mind that the set still clocks in at over 5 hours. The biggest issue was there weren't many great bootlegs for Give Me All Your Luvin' and the one I was using hemmed really close to the Sultan & Shepard mix, which was high octane. In order to make that work, I had to add in the fabulous DJ Barry Harris remixes of Vogue and Deeper and Deeper, which are equally high-octane. They also provided me the ability to mix in the Dirty Disco remix of La Isla Bonita, which had a very tribal element to it that didn't work elsewhere. Everything worked but it all felt out of place in the overall set. I took everything out and moved a couple of tracks around, added the Wayne G remix of Celebration, which allowed me to re-add La Isla Bonita, and presto...MAGIC! We've moved into the fourth phase of Madonna's career, which is still ongoing albeit in 4th gear as she works on deluxe anniversary editions of her past catalog from a recent deal with Warner Brothers (who already owned the majority of her catalog) but will bring over the rights to her last three albums MDNA, Rebel Heart and Madame X in 2025. As part of the deal, a movie autobiography is in the works with Madonna set to direct. We all know that Madonna's heart is in touring and connecting with fans. I wouldn't be surprised if she's been quietly working on an album for the past several years while maintaining her familial duties as a mother but who knows? She's already missed the entire 70s and 80s dance/disco revival with popular music now moving into 90s House. Lately, the summer weather has been hotter than hell as we had a high of 102 degrees yesterday and a short-lived massive storm complete with hail that I got stuck in. I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is to compile and mix this massive series. The decision process alone determining which songs make the cut and which get left behind is a painful process. So, if there's anything you feel is missing — it'll likely make an appearance on the forthcoming Essential Gay Anthems For A New Generation set(s) I have planned for next week. I've been siphoning new remixes for songs that will be included and placing them into their special folder and will collect our favorites since the original series began and compile everything into possibly two massive sets.
