This week we’re in 1 Kings 19:1-18. Elijah has just seen fire fall from heaven, he’s seen victory over the prophets of Baal and he’s prophesied and seen the rain fall to end the 3.5 year drought. But despite the miraculous things Elijah has seen, it takes one threat from his enemies for him to go from being on top of the world, into a place of deep discouragement, depression and despair. Elijah is down, but he’s not out. However far we run, however bad things may seem, however far out of reach God’s plans may seem; God does not abandon us. Through Elijah’s story we see, through God’s grace, how he gives us a way out, an opportunity of life, liberty and freedom from the things that hold us in a place of despair.
