In a strange, unexpected sequel to their Very Special Episode, this week the Waffles take a closer look at the Very Special Issues of popular comic books. It’s hard to resist a good rom-com. Who cares if the tropes are things we’ve seen a hundred times before. The heroes have the same stereotypical jobs. Everyone is very pretty. Someone’s fiancee gets dumped in favor of the person they met two day ago...wait. Maybe not all the tropes are so great after all. Today, the Waffles discuss how the genre has changed, which tropes are still overused, and the kinds of rom-coms they want to see in the future

No one ever accused movies and TV of being real life - but that doesn’t mean we didn’t believe way too many of the things we were seeing. We thought high school was the be-all-end-all and that you could rent a fabulous apartment on a part-time salary. We thought court cases would be interesting and that forensic labs did fast turnarounds.
