Defending Detroit's Air + Detroit's New Startup Fund (ft. Darren Riley, Justin Onwenu)
07/08/2025 Duração: 22minToday's show cover a couple of topics in one conversation, both important for the future of the city. Darren Riley, founder and CEO of JustAir, and Justin Onwenu, the director of entrepreneurship for the city of Detroit. Darren discussed the inspiration behind JustAir, and idea that came from his own health challenges. The conversation touched on how the company is trying to inform environmental and health policy, particularly zoning decisions. JustAir is different from your phone's weather app because it can provide data from the block level and is working toward making that information accessible like a nutrition label, so folks can make informed choices about going outside. Justin then discussed the city's investment and focus on providing access grants through the new Detroit Startup Fund. He highlighted that capital, customers, and community are all important and what the city is doing to encourage new companies. From Oakland County to Washington (ft. Rep. Haley Stevens)
04/08/2025 Duração: 27minToday’s show features a conversation with U.S. Representative and Democratic primary candidate for U.S. Senat Haley Stevens. Representing the 11th District since 2019, her district includes Ferndale, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Farmington Hills, Pontiac, Wixom, White Lake, Troy, Auburn Hills, and more. Oakland County is one of the most powerful and economically important areas of the state and country. Plus, many of you, our listeners, live there. We touched on a ton of topics from the auto industry to international issues to the size of coney menus. My goal was to get a sense of what her thoughts were, over my own. After all, she’s in the seat - and running for a higher one in a contested primary. Feedback as always, dailydetroit - at - gmail - dot - com. Cash For People Over Corporations; Sweetgreen Coming; Apple Invests In Detroit
31/07/2025 Duração: 25minJer's back from Chicago and has big thoughts on some false arguments we're making back home in Detroit on transit... to making sure we're investing in projects for the people to the importance of even some density (duplex and triplexes, not giant apartment buildings). After all, if the government is going to give cash... shouldn't we be investing in infrastructure that benefits us all than direct to a multi-national's pocket book? Plus, Sweetgreen is coming to Detroit and Apple is investing in a new academy. Don't forget our big birthday bash is Saturday, August 9! The eyes of the world are on Detroit (ft. Simon Moss, Global Citizen)
02/07/2025 Duração: 23minDetroit's a special city to the world, from Motown, to motors, to techno, and more. But what about the city of today and tomorrow? What about making sure those making ideas happen in Detroit have the support and resources they need to go to the next level, sustainably? I had a compelling conversation with Simon Moss, the co-founder of Global Citizen. The Global Citizen Now conference is coming to town next week at Hudson's Detroit, bringing together leaders from business, government, media, philanthropy, nonprofits, and culture to explore what it takes to build inclusive, sustainable cities. Four key areas of focus are economic equity, talent development, climate resilience, and community impact.
