Oh. My. Gods. Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the superhero film based on the DC Comics character Shazam. It is the sequel to Shazam! (2019) and the twelfth instalment in the DC Extended Universe. Thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures we were able to attend the Perth premiere, but if you haven’t watched Shazam! Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kid siblings are still learning how to juggle teenage life with their adult superhero alter egos. When a vengeful trio of ancient gods arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Shazam (Zachary Levi) and his family get thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of the world.

Michael B. Jordan is set to lead the "Creed-Verse", Quentin Tarantino's tenth and final film has a title, Beetlejuice 2 is back on the cards, and Jennifer Lawrence is funny again. The Punisher is back, the Daniels join Disney, Lex Luthor has a beard (again), and Willow - it's cancellation has been greatly exaggerated.

After winning two Oscars including Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Actor for Brendan Fraser's performance, it is time to talk about The Whale. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, The Whale is the psychological drama film based on the 2012 play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter. A reclusive English teacher (Brendan Fraser) suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) for one last chance at redemption.

Directed by Mike Hodges, Flash Gordon is the space opera superhero film based on the King Features comic strip of the same name created by Alex Raymond. Pathetic Earthings Luke and Jae take the journey back to 1980 to review this cult classic. Although NASA scientists are claiming the unexpected eclipse and strange "hot hail" are nothing to worry about, Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) knows better, and takes football star Flash Gordon (Sam Jones) and travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) with him into space to rectify things. They land on planet Mongo, where the despot Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow) is attacking Earth out of pure boredom. With the help of a race of Hawkmen, Flash and the gang struggle to save their home planet.

Directed by Richard Fleischer, Red Sonja is the epic sword and sorcery film based on the character, Red Sonja of Rogatino, created by Robert E. Howard, who also inspired the comic book character of the same name. Luke and Nathan return to the Hyborian Age of 1985 to discuss this box-office bomb. Power-hungry Queen Gedren (Sandahl Bergman) captures the priestesses guarding the Talisman, a mystical orb that created and can destroy the world. But one of the priestesses escapes and seeks out her warrior sister, Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen), to warn her about Gedren's plan for world domination. Lord Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger), the Talisman's keeper, insists on helping Sonja, and though she scorns the assistance of any man, she soon gains respect for Kalidor's fighting prowess.

Transformed by science... changed by love... Written and directed by Wes Craven, Swamp Thing is the superhero horror film based on the Vertigo / DC Comics character of the same name created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Luke and Jae go back to 1982 to check out this pre-Elm Street Wes Craven film. On the verge of a breakthrough in his quest to wipe out world hunger, altruistic botanist Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise) is placed under the protection of special government agent Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau). Mad outlaw scientist Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan) wants to steal Holland's research for his own nefarious ends, but an unforeseen accident during the heist turns Holland into the Swamp Thing, an enormous plant-like creature that fights back against Arcane's henchmen to save Cable.

You can't run from your past... Directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan, Creed III is the sports drama film which serves as the sequel to Creed II (2018), the third film in the Creed series, and the overall ninth instalment in the Rocky franchise. Thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures we were able to attend the Perth premiere. After dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life. When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian - a fighter who has nothing to lose.

Directed by Jeff Wamester, Legion of Super-Heroes is the animated superhero film based on the DC Comics and superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth instalment in the Tomorrowverse. Welcome to the 31st century and the Legion Academy, where a new generation hones its powers with hopes of joining the Legion of Super-Heroes. Among its ranks is Supergirl (Meg Donnelly), who struggles to adjust to life on Earth. A nefarious plot lurks in the shadows – the mysterious group known as the Dark Circle seeks a powerful weapon held in the academy’s vault.

Seth Rogen has announced the star-studded voice cast of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, the Detective Pikachu sequel seems to be moving forward, Lord of the Rings are making a return to the big screen, and Disney's new The Haunted Mansion actually looks pretty good. Star Trek: Discovery will not boldly go beyond a fifth season, Welcome to Derry is officially ordered, and Stranger Things heads to London's West End.

A drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it... Directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear is the comedy horror film loosely inspired by the true story of the “Cocaine Bear”, an American black bear that ingested millions of dollars of lost cocaine in 1985. Thanks to Universal Pictures we were able to attend the Perth preview screening. An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest must contend with a 500-pound apex predator that has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fuelled rampage for more blow... and blood.

Developed by Ben Queen, Powerless is the superhero sitcom television set within the world of the DC Universe. Luke and Jae return to Charm City to review this single season, 12 episode series from 2017. Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) lands her dream job as director of research and development for Wayne Security in Charm City, home to superheroes, super villains and everyday citizens fed up with the collateral damage of their constant super fighting. Full of confidence and big ideas about how to make life safer for the populace, Emily quickly learns that her aspirations far exceed those of her new boss and officemates, so it is up to her to lead the team toward its full potential and the realization that you don't need superpowers to be a hero.

Directed by Robert Altman, Popeye is the musical comedy film based on E. C. Segar's Popeye comics character. Luke and Nathan break open a can of spinach as they take on this 1980 Paramount and Walt Disney production which stars Robin Williams as Popeye the Sailor Man. Looking for the father (Ray Walston) who deserted him as a baby, Popeye (Robin Williams) journeys to the port town of Sweethaven. Popeye befriends an assortment of eccentrics and falls in love with Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall), who already has a suitor, the bully Bluto (Paul L. Smith).

Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Knock at the Cabin is the apocalyptic psychological horror film based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. While vacationing at a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents (Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge) are taken hostage by four armed strangers (Dave Bautista, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Abby Quinn, Rupert Grint) who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

You've enjoyed (or endured) listening to almost 400 episodes of the guys from That Film Stew talk about the most recent news stories from the world of film and television. Do it one more time at least as they've taken the opportunity to re-assess, re-tool, and revamp the news show. They've made a few changes - hopefully for the better. Hellboy is getting another reboot, we'll soon learn how to train a live-action dragon, Riddick will return, and there are things to be said about the new trailer for The Flash.

Marvel Studios kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with some of its smallest heroes. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the titular characters, and is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). Scott Lang / Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne / Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), with Hope's parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott's daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), find themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and facing off against Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

In 2008, the history of comic book movies was forever changed... and Punisher: War Zone was released. Directed by Lexi Alexander, Punisher: War Zone is the action thriller based on the Marvel Comics character the Punisher. Luke and Nathan revisit this third feature adaption of The Punisher and the second reboot - the first of two films produced under the Marvel Knights production banner. The war waged by vigilante Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) on crime and corruption continues as a defaced mob boss known as Billy "Jigsaw" Russotti (Dominic West) returns with an army of villains to seek revenge.

What better way to mark the 200th episode of Sounds Likes Comics than by boldly going where no podcast has gone before (we're pretty sure), by doing not just one, but three reviews - dubbed The Genesis Trilogy. This special episode celebrates the classic trilogy of Star Trek movies, 2 to 4, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home. Directed by Nicholas Meyer (Wrath of Khan) and Leonard Nimoy (The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home), these Star Trek films from 1982, 1984, and 1986, respectively, make up a trilogy that was never planned to be that way. Directed by Kenya Barris, You People is the romantic comedy film co-written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill. A new couple and their families find themselves examining modern love and family dynamics amidst clashing cultures, societal expectations and generational differences.

On January 31st, James Gunn announced the initial outline of what he and Peter Safran intend for DC's movies and television for the next ten years. James Gunn, who became Co-CEO of DC Studios (with Peter Safran), said that their goal moving forward is to keep their DC products connected to one another, and whenever there are products outside of this continuity, these will be clearly labelled as “Elseworld” products. This special episode will take a look at the roadmap of the future of DC Studios.
