The Market The Brew podcast was created for people with a passion for craft beer that want ideas, inspiration, and resources for taking craft beer(s) to market. Specifically, brewery owners; brewery marketing staff; sales/distribution people; and marketing service providers with a focus on the craft beer industry.This is a weekly exploration of the marketing of craft beer. Our conversations include reviewing actual case histories of most unique, exciting and effective strategies, campaigns, and promotions. Digging into how problem or opportunity was identified; what was the thinking/idea and where did it come from. What worked and didnt work. And, the results produced in the marketplace.Our vision is that Market The Brew will be a source of ideas, inspiration, and marketing resources.

After attending the University of Utah, he was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2010, and then in 2012 assumed the day to day operations of the club. His focus as General Manager is to provide the absolute best experience for guests in the beautiful setting of the San Manuel Stadium. Part of that experience, and the focus of this episode, will be with the partnership between the stadium and Hangar 24 brewing.

Andy met Kevin Wright, Third Space’s Head Brewer and Co-founder, twenty years prior when they were camp counselors at a summer camp. Kevin went to brewing school at UC Davis and ended up at Hangar 24. Meanwhile Andy went to law school and became an attorney. After running into each other at a wedding and having a conversation about opening a brewery, the two went on to found Third Space Brewing in the old industrial corridor of Milwaukee.

She was born and raised in Washington DC, ordered her first Arrogant Bastard Ale in an east village bar in 1999, and has been dedicated to spreading the gospel of craft beer ever since. Francesca Jasinski was born and raised in Grand Rapids and she has no shortage of affection for her West Michigan homeland. She graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2006 with a BA in Philosophy and began working in mental health with the intent to eventually pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work. Like most entrepreneurs, Justin has served in every role at the brewery at some point, including bartender, salesman, delivery driver, assistant brewer, and of course, janitor. Currently, he is focused on the areas of operations, human resources, accounting, and managing a growing wholesale business of kegs and cans. . Along with Justin we are joined by Hamlet Fort, the Marketing and Events Manager for Station 26. Hamlet most recently was with a PR firm in Nashville. His experience includes digital marketing, advertising, PR, media, photography and writing, all of which he does for Station 26. A native of the mountains of western North Carolina, Hamlet chased great beer and higher mountains out to Colorado.

During his college years, Harvey needed a portfolio to showcase his graphic design work. Many portfolios at the time piggybacked on blogs, so he launched Oh Beautiful Beer – a blog showcasing innovative and well-designed craft beer labels and packaging. Since its launch, Oh Beautiful Beer has become a central hub for highlighting the best graphics and design the craft beer industry has to offer. I’ve been following the Oh Beautiful Beer blog for long time. Finally, at the CBC in 2017, I met Harvey Shepard, the creator of this wonderful blog.

This lead to him owning and operating, while a teenage, Board to Death Skate Shop. He had the skate shop until he went to the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater to Study Entrepreneurship and Spanish. Upon graduation, he started MobCraft Beer, a crowdsourced brewery that turns people's ideas into beer. In 2015 he won a Silver Medal at the GABF; in 2016 he pitched his idea on Shark Tank, and in 2017 he was named the SBA Young entrepreneur of the year.

During our conversation, he described to me a promotion that he is spearheading which I can tell you is the most ingenious and creative of its type that I’ve come across. He has lectured internationally on sustainable surfboards, worked in product design for an outdoors retailer, and co-founded a ‘buy local’ gift card company, which he sold to one of Maine’s biggest banks in 2016. The organization for which he is the executive director focused on two strategic goals: First, Make Maine the #1 destination in the USA for craft beer tourists, And Second, make Maine’s craft beer industry a model industry for Maine’s next economy.

Mike's passion for homebrewing & lifelong devotion to the Milwaukee arts scene led to the creation of a one-of-a-kind brewery. In 2014, with a diploma in Master Brewing, Mike opened the first new brewery in Milwaukee in seventeen years. The brewery’s tasting room features his unique brews and several other Wisconsin favorites. It draws engagement from his community and every year honors and acknowledges a different local art student. The D.L. Geary Brewing Company was incorporated in October 1983 by today’s guest, David Geary and his wife Karen. They shared the vision of producing world class products on a small scale for the local Portland, Maine area and that region of the good ole US of A. In the winter of 1984, David began a period of training and research in Scotland and England. With the help of Peter Maxwell Stuart, a Scottish nobleman and brewer who arranged introductions and itineraries, he worked in a half-dozen small commercial breweries from the highlands of Scotland to the south coast of England. Since then, Geary’s has spread distribution to fifteen states along the eastern seaboard and as far west as Ohio.

He did such a great job and was so informative and entertaining I started thinking about an episode on brewery tours. Josh has been a Lakefront Brewery tour guide or as his title reads, a “Brewery Navigation Specialist”, for just over five years. In that time, he’s given over 2000 tours to people from all over the world, including professional football players, country music stars, national comedians and brewery owners. He is responsible for creating and developing Lakefront's technical tour. In his spare time, he plays drums in his metal band and enjoys doing stand-up comedy, which really came thru in his tour.

Mangrove trees live with one foot on land and one in the sea, constantly expanding their boundaries. I have spent significant time at the Walking Tree tasting room the past 2 months.
