On this episode of the Regional Update, we catch up with Tim Bartimote. Tim is a Senior Land Services Officer in the Cropping division for NSW Central West Local Land Services. Over the last two years, Tim has been working on a chaff decking paddock demonstration project which has GRDC investment. On this edition of the podcast, we’re taking a closer look at chaff decks! On this podcast we’re looking at good spraying practice with WA farmer Tim Critch and getting an explainer on Nufarm's new Group G herbicide, Terrad'or.Back in February and March of 2020 Tim had some summer rain and decided to look at the weeds not the temperature. If the weeds weren’t moisture stressed he kept spraying all day even when it was hot. He had some great results which we’ll get into in this podcast. In this podcast we’re focusing on getting spraying right and new green-on-green autonomous spray technology! We’ve been following the innovative developments in the green-on-green space at WeedSmart quite closely, so we were excited to see Bilberry, SwarmFarm and Goldacres had teamed up to deliver some new autonomous spraying technology. So, in light of this, we caught up with Goldacres technical guru, David Tuppen who recently commissioned a fully autonomous sprayer with green-on-green weed detection using a SwarmBot robot and Goldacres Prairie Special trailing sprayer. We also hear from grower Broden Holland, who is based in Thuddungra, near Young in NSW. Broden is a keen precision ag farmer who has just updated to a G6 Crop Cruiser SP. On today’s episode, we’re heading to the Western Region to get an update from Farmanco agronomist Brent Pritchard who is based in Albany. Brent recently featured in our WeedSmart article on managing fence line weeds off the back of research into glyphosate resistant capeweed which Brent had found at a farm near Borden in Western Australian. In this podcast, we'll be learning about a new approach in sorghum planting. Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries principal research scientist Dr Michael Widderick will join us to explain the GRDC-funded research out of University of Sydney and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries conducted which found that narrower row spacing in sorghum leads to high yields and delete few weeds through crop competition.
