On The Other Side: Leadership After Transition

Who is the host of this show? After nearly 2 months and a vague introduction of Jeffrey Lodick, he talks about his career and his goals after the military. He takes us through his career and highlights some very influential leaders throughout his 20 years. This is a pretty good overview of some of the things that have motivated him and some things that he has done to prepare himself for his transition. 

This week, I take a look at the first 11 episodes and give a special thanks to all the people who have appeared as guests thus far. I also answer some questions that I have received over the course of the last 2 months and give insight to the future of the show. 

I welcomed our 1st Marine to the show this week and he knocked it out of the park. From his time in the Marine Corps, his trip to Georgetown, his struggle in Houston, to finding a home at Exbellum, Andrew Hoffman IS just what I was looking for! Meeting him has shown me the true power of social media and I'm thankful for the great information he was able to provide the listeners of this show. Lets see what Drew has to offer us all, On The Other Side!

Colonel (Ret) Tom Byrge spent majority of his Air Force career leading joint forces. His vast knowledge of leading a diverse population of Service Members who speak different "languages" was a challenge, but an experience that he cherished. His advice for transitioning Service Members is interesting and very helpful. Let's see what Col Byrge is doing, On The Other Side.

A man who I've known for over 12 years, but never spoke, never saw, heck, never actually "met" him! Through his two son's and a book, I was able to know John without ever having a conversation with him, until now! Take a listen as John speaks about leadership in his career and since. He truly gave me so much to think about and I sincerely appreciate the time he spent with us. I look forward to many more conversations in the future! Brian Knight served in the Army for 20 years. He takes us on a journey through his career and allows us to see what his life has been like after he transitioned. He gives great insight about life after the military and he offers some humor as he talks about a particular safety (me) on an Airborne Operation getting popped in the face before any jumpers actually leave the aircraft. Brian was a great guest and I'm' very happy he is doing well, On The Other Side!

I met a man on the elevator who had no right arm and a prosthetic right leg. He was on his phone speaking as if he was trying to talk to NY from Florida! His wife and I got a chuckle out of it as she told him to quiet down. I said I was deaf, which means he was finally talking at a level I could hear. We went our separate ways and a month later at a different event I was formally introduced to Rick and Lynn and the rest is history. Listen to Rick's inspirational story and feel the truth behind them as we explore his experiences and share his message with all of you. Thank you Rick for being a light in a world that sometimes isn't so bright!

Kyle Brown retired from the Air Force after over 20 years of service and has found that transition isn't as easy as he had thought it was going to be. His story has ups and downs, twists and turns, and the journey is just beginning. I am thankful for Kyle's support and the time he took to spend with us, sharing his experience! 

It was a pleasure and an honor to interview the 12th Sergeant Major of the Army, Jack Tilley. Whether you served in the military or not, his story resonates with us all. From his humble beginnings to his almost 50 years of Service to our Country and our Veterans, his tale is quite inspirational! From very serious conversation to many humorous moments, listen as Sergeant Major Tilley navigates through the interview flawlessly! This is one of those moments that I will look back on and cherish for the rest of my life! 

Angel Marin retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant. He was a parachute rigger for his entire career. Listen as he takes you on a journey from high school drop out to Soldier to business owner. There were ups and downs on his travels, but he speaks of inspiration and staying true to yourself. 

Army Sergeant Major (Ret) Jerome Jones shares some experiences and speaks about leadership in and out of the military from his perspective. I felt like a pupil all over again as I spent the afternoon being schooled by this great leader. 

James "VP" Van Prooyen was the guest in this episode. He is the creator of the Military Podcast Network and the reason On The Other Side exists today. It was interesting to see his vision and as we have come to execute it, the genuine goodness in it!

My name is Jeffrey Lodick and I'm excited to launch the introductory episode of "On The Other Side: Leadership After Transition". After serving 20 years in the Army and beginning the retirement transition, I reached out to many friends to see their opinions about life after the military. I came to realize there were many differing opinions about leadership in different areas outside of the confines of all of our branches of Service. So, moving forward, I felt that a podcast could be a good platform to invite leaders of all Services who have made the transition help those who are about to embark on a new journey or who have been struggling to find their niche  in life after the military.
