In 1970, he was the number one high school basketball player in the U.S. He would go on to play college ball under legendary Coach Lefty Driesell for the University of Maryland Terrapins from 1971 to 1974,He was also a member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team that lost a controversial gold medal game to the Soviet Union.After graduating from Maryland he was drafted in the first round of the 1974 NBA draft by the Buffalo Braves and the first round of the 1974 ABA Draft by the Virginia Squires.He signed with the Braves but postponed his entry into the NBA in order to attend the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He was born in Yonkers, NY and was initially signed by the New York Yankees where he had a 14–7 record for the 1962 Fort Lauderdale Yankees of the Class D Florida State League, striking out 196 batters in 169 innings pitched, with a 2.61 earned run average. He was selected by the Mets in the first-year player draft after that season and spent 1963 with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. The actor and comedian's family announced the sad news on his official Twitter account Tuesday, alongside a photo of Gottfried. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children," the family said. "Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor. Love, the Gottfried family," they added. 10/04/2022 Duração: 34minJoel Youngblood was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of Stephen F. Austin High School in the second round of the 1970 Major League Baseball Draft. He would play in 1408 games over 14 seasons, and in parts of six seasons with the NY Mets. He had his best season as a Met in the strike-shortened season of 1981, when he batted .350 with a .929 OPS and was named an All-Star for the only time in his career. The following season, he made history by becoming the only player to get hits for two different teams in two different cities on the same day. He played for the Mets that afternoon in Chicago, was traded to Montreal after the game, and played for the Expos that night in Philadelphia.
