  • Episode 20 - The Big Short (1:50:41)

    30/04/2017 Duração: 01h50min

We bring on a special guest, Daniel J., to discuss the allegedly true (hence the asterisk) story behind the housing bust and subsequent financial crisis of 2008 as depicted in The Big Short (also a book of the same name by Michael Lewis) . There is a lot going on here, and we don't even get to the asymmetrical aptitudes of the players vs. the regulators, or the scandal involving the regulators spending their time looking at porn, or the alarm-bells being sounded by the likes of Brooksley Born that went unheeded. Here is the marketing spin on the movie:"Based on the true story of four outsiders who saw what the big banks, media and government refused to: the global collapse of the economy. A bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of banking, where everyone and everything is in question. In 2008, Wall Street guru Michael Burry realizes that a number of subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting. Burry bets against the housing market by throwing more than $1 billion of his investors' money into

  • Episode 19 - War Dogs (1:48:53)

    23/04/2017 Duração: 01h48min

This week we discuss the movie about some dude-bro international arms dealers, War Dogs starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. It's a ridiculous idea made possible by ridiculous government policy. The film follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a $300 million deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.Just Robert and I on this one as we kick off some rust from not recording a show for a few weeks. Here is the Robert Higgs book that we recommend during the episode: Against LeviathanFor Show Notes and more, please visit: www.ActualAnarchy.com/19

  • Episode 18 - The Lorax (1:16:13)

    22/04/2017 Duração: 01h16min

Happy Earth Day everyone! We love the Earth, and that compels us to call out Dr. Seuss and the Lorax as propaganda for the biggest polluter on the planet - government. Special guest, Kevin LeCureux joins us for a lively discussion on book, the 1972 TV special and the 2012 CGI film with Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Betty White and Danny DeVito. If you want to really protect the environment....you let people own property. They have a vested interest in maintaining the capital value of things. For more information on our guest, please visit:https://klecu.com/As always, like us...subscribe us....comment us....share us....For show notes and more, please visit: www.actualanarchy.com/18

  • Episode 16 - The Breakfast Club (1:44:19)

    09/04/2017 Duração: 01h44min

"It will be Anarchy!" We bring on a special guest to talk about the John Hughes classic, "the Breakfast Club". This iconic movie really just serves as a springboard into a copious variety of topics ranging from schools, prisons, gun rights, the industrial revolution, monarchy and more. They were five students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school library. At 7 a.m., they had nothing to say, but by 4 p.m. they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. John Hughes, creator of the critically acclaimed Sixteen Candles, wrote, directed and produced this hilarious and often touching comedy starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be "The Breakfast Club".Our guest Drake Lundstrom is working on a really cool project that we will feature when it is ready for

  • Episode 9 - The Act of Killing (1:20:58)

    05/03/2017 Duração: 01h20min

In what will definitely not be considered a pro-tourism film for the country of Indonesia, we discuss the horrors on display in the film, the Act of Killing. The documentary follows a few of the executioners from the Indonesian genocide, where more than a million people were slaughtered, as they recreate their crimes to make a film of their own celebrating their actions some 45 years later. The true horror here is the mindset that these killers have maintained for half a lifetime and only through reliving the experience do they even begin to manifest humanity are repentance for their actions. We bring on special guest, Hinton Bowers who will be contributing as a writer for this site to talk about this movie, which was his suggestion for this show.Look for articles from Hinton here in the coming weeks.Like, Share, Rate, Subscribe, Review, ALL THE THINGS!For show notes and more, please visit: http://www.actualanarchy.com/2017/03/05/episode-9/

  • Episode 7 - President's Day Special - Lincoln (1:14:48)

    20/02/2017 Duração: 01h14min

We take the President's Day holiday as an opportunity to examine America's favorite president as depicted by Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. Let's just say that a Rothbardian Anarcho-Capitalist perspective is not kind to old "honest" Abe.We have a special guest, Actual Anarchy contributor, Rex Gazer. Look for articles from him on the site soon; and once he launches his own, we will push it vigorously. From the film, we see our hero avoiding peace by delay; thus prolonging the war. Visiting the wounded (A saint!). They depict Lincoln as a deity.I like how they painted the guy who called out Lincoln for jailing journalists, suspending habeus corpus and acting like a dictator as a smug, virulent racist. Thus, his arguments are automatically invalid.Later in the movie, Lincoln slapped his son. That's assault brother. Here are a few articles to review:http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=70018https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-by-era/american-civil-war/resources/proclamation-suspension-hab

  • Episode 6 - Pump Up the Volume (1:20:38)

    19/02/2017 Duração: 01h20min

The movie that may have started it all! We discuss the 1990 Christian Slater flick Pump Up the Volume that features him as shy high school teenager by date, but a pirate-radio, shock-jock host from his parents' basement by night. He gets a local following by interacting with his audience, but runs afoul of the authorities; both local and federal. It's a move with a strong anti-authoritarian streak that really holds up even today, especially now that almost anybody can now have their own show (such as this one!) via the power of the internet and podcasting.Speaking of podcasting, our excellent guest, Nathan Fraser has a show and offers services to help you launch your own podcast or start your own business. • Episode 4 – Dallas Buyers Club (1:38:14)

    12/02/2017 Duração: 01h38min

We bring on Doc Anarchy to discuss one of the most libertarian films in recent memory, the Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof - a rodeo cowboy who contracts HIV in the early days of the spread of AIDS. There is a lot to unpack in this movie and we found ourselves cheering for Ron as he battled the government that was preventing him from helping himself and helping others by establishing a market for drugs and remedies of their own choosing. For more information on our guest, Doc Anarchy, please visit his two sites:www.DocAnarchy.comwww.HonoringRonPaul.comWe welcome any feedback. Part 2 of 2 where we discuss the topic-rich, yet wildly contradictory movie, Captain Fantastic. We do actually finish discussing this movie during this episode, but it's nearly two hours. So let us be the first to welcome you to the inaugural episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast (New name, same game). As I just said, this is the inaugural Actual Anarchy Podcast launching, fittingly, on inauguration day of new President, Donald J. Trump. Old boss, same as the new boss? In some ways, probably; though he was the change candidate. The F-you to the status quo. But, is the status quo the right thing? Most people aren't happy, no matter who wins. Is there a better way? Yes, Virginia, there is. Actual Anarchy. Voluntaryism. We introduce ourselves and some of the tenants of the philosophy in this episode. Future episodes will focus on actual instances of anarchy in popular film and news events. Get strapped in people; it's going to challenge what you think you know...and hopef
