These meetings started informally mid-2020 and give participants a way to meet without any predetermined agenda to ask questions, brainstorm new ideas, share about new projects or any other topics that are related to open-source medical imaging! Pathology Standards and Hackathon In this episode, host Mohannad chats with Jason Klotzer and Markus Herrmann about pathology imaging standards. The team discusses the unique perspective of digital pathology and how the specialty has adopted DICOM standards to meet the needs of the pathologist's imaging workflow, as well as a hackathon sponsored by the DPA and DICOM Workgroup 26. Jason Klotzer is a customer engineer working for the Healthcare vertical of Google Cloud, and he is based out of Austin, TX and has worked in the medical imaging space for more than 15 years. He has architected several PACS and VNA systems, specializing in visualization of medical images for diagnostic reading, recently focusing on the needs of AI/ML and analytics in medical imaging. Markus Herrmann serves as Director of Computational Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. PIIRT Chapter 5 - Incorporating Non-Image Data with Matthew Hayes In this episode, hosts Ali, Prasanth, and Mohannad speak with Matthew Hayes CIIP. Matt is currently the PACS Manager for Radiology Partners. Last we heard Ben and Jason discuss the implementation of a PACS upgrade and RIS implementation with @IBMWatsonHealth. Fast-forwarding almost 3 years since our last meetup, Ben discusses the challenges of integrating with a new national EMR, establishing links with Ghana's national identification initiatives and other health information entities. The discussion evoked quite a bit of nostalgia from both Jason and Ben, who reflected on how much progress has been made, highlighting some of the innovative solutions used at the hospital when faced with limited resources. AI Racial Identification In this episode, hosts Prasanth and Mohannad interview @judywawira (Emory University), Chima Okechukwu (GeorgiaTech) @BrandonPriceRad (FSU College of Medicine) and Anthony Celi (MIT laboratory for Computational Physiology) as they discuss a groundbreaking paper they published earlier this year, in which they demonstrate how shockingly accurate machine learning systems can be at determining race. Starting from an accidental discovery to an arduous process of eliminating surrogate indicators or proxies they were startled to see how robust these model predictions were to signals virtually imperceptible to even expert human observers, across modalities as well as anatomic regions. Enterprise imaging involves the ability to capture, index, manage, store, distribute, view, exchange, and analyze all clinical imaging and multimedia content from any clinical specialty. Over the past 6 years, The HIMSS/SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community have authored 10 white papers that explore different facets of Enterprise Imaging. This year the HIMSS/SIIM Enterprise Imaging Advisory Council was formed to assist in defining the focus of the HIMSS/SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community.
