Sinopse

Every episode a notable film savvy guest provides host Matthew Price with the scariest movie they can think of. Matthew is a film buff, and cohost of the successful and long running podcast Mamo! Congenitally averse to horror films, the show is his chance to conquer his demons by watching a variety of demons.

  • An American Werewolf in London, with Casey Lyons

    23/08/2015 Duração: 01h04min

Boy oh boy oh BOY is this a fun movie to talk about. Musician and Modern Superior stablemate Casey Lyons scared me silly with the greatest werewolf movie of them all, An American Werewolf in London. I love the movie, and the two of us dug out some nice meat that was left on the bones of this 1981 horror comedy classic.

  • The Haunting (1963), with Peter Kuplowsky

    09/08/2015 Duração: 54min

It's back to cases, as we return to the setting of the very first episode of our show, a haunted house. but The Haunting might be the best looking horror film ever made - Director Robert Wise certainly aims for that, pulling every great camera and editing trick he learned working on films like Citizen Kane. Peter Kuplowsky chose this, and he might be the most enthusiastic film scholar and programmer in the world. The answer is most likely probably maybe yes to both. Now listen, and decide for yourself!

  • Trouble Every Day, With Corey Atad

    26/07/2015 Duração: 44min

It's not every day that someone invents an entirely new monster movie genre, and it's even less frequent when that monster turns out to be Vincent Gallo. Film and TV writer and podcaster Corey Atad decided I needed to watch the entirely odd genre riff Trouble Every Day, by Director Claire Denis. And man was he RIGHT! This is a great, deep, weird horror gem, and our conversation got equally weird, great and deep as a result. Enjoy!

  • À l'intérieur (Inside), with Alia Miller

    05/07/2015 Duração: 40min

My guest is the Super Terrific Super Delightful Super Amazing Alia Miller. Alia co-hosts two other podcasts, What She's Having (RomComs!), and Modern Superior's own Super Zero! (Comic Book Movies!). I couldn't have been happier or more completely filled with dread when she chose À l'intérieur for the show. This is the closest I've gotten in a while to being scared to actual death.

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with Sam Agro

    21/06/2015 Duração: 50min

Sometimes a guest really outdoes themselves. I knew when I invited him that multihyphenate talent Sam Agro (comic book writer/artist/film industry pro) would pick a humdinger of a movie, but WHOAH. Getting to watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and then being able to talk in such depth with Sam has been a true highlight of our first season. Please enjoy our talk which turned out to be about not just what the movie was about, but how it was about it.

  • Pulse, with Bob Turnbull

    07/06/2015 Duração: 45min

After our HIGHLY controversial debut episode I was delighted to be able to talk about a J-Horror movie (maybe THE J-Horror movie) that's actually made in Japan. Horror and Japanese movie and culture buff Bob Turnbull took a break from his blog and his ongoing contributions to RowThree. He chose the almost gleefully depressing internet-ghosts-are-coming-for-us thriller Pulse, by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Weird internet ghosts beware, we are here to discuss you.

  • Alien, with Norm Wilner

    24/05/2015 Duração: 53min

Great guest this week, Norm Wilner. Norm writes for Now Magazine, Toronto's alternative weekly, is an active champion of twitter discourse, and hosts his very own podcast, Someone Else's Movie. He's not just making his living writing and discussing film, he's also an incredible source of insight. An eryudite and far flung ramble about Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece Alien is the subject of our show, and I wished it had gone on even longer.

  • Love From Mother Only/Cutting Moments, with Vishnu Singh

    10/05/2015 Duração: 41min

Man about town and horror expert Vishnu Singh brought 2 extremely great (and basically terrifying) short films. Love From Mother Only takes us to Brazil for messed up religio-terror, but Cutting Moments nearly scared me right back to being single.

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, with Matt Brown and Dan Gorman

    26/04/2015 Duração: 45min

Call it LSMP2D: Origins. This is the show that hopefully fills in all the details about how this show came to be. It's a tale as old as time to be sure. Helping me do that, and trying to scare me to death, is Matt Brown. In addition to being my ten year podcast partner on Mamo and a truly great friend, Matt is the cocreator and host of Modern Superior sister show SuperZero. Dan Gorman joins us as well, Dan is our producer and cohosts Time Bandits and See You Next Wednesday on the network. If that wasn't enough we all watched Nightmare 3: Dream Warriors and get into where our collective nightmares come from and where they might be going to.

  • The Descent, with Katarina Gligorijević

    12/04/2015 Duração: 43min

The words "sphincter tightening terror" get thrown around a lot these days, but then there's an adult person trying their hardest to watch The Descent without completely losing it. Never before have both a host and a guest been this close to total personality meltdown. Join Matthew and his special guest Katarina Gligorijević for a great conversation about getting scared.

  • The Exorcist III, with Greg LeGros

    29/03/2015 Duração: 45min

It's a very special week, as not only do we welcome Modern Superior cofounder and incredibly smart fella Greg LeGros to the show, but The Exorcist III is the subject under discussion. This is one of Matthew's great white whales of horror, a movie he's been circling for more than 20 years (or is it the other way around).
