Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions joins the show to discuss the newly re-calibrated Defensive Runs Saved stat and how it affects all players across baseball including the Rockies. We get into Nolan Arenado vs. Matt Chapman, Trevor Story's ascendance, and the weirdness that is Tony Wolters as a defensive player.Plus, Anthony and Tyler discuss some early spring storylines in Rockies camp and throughout baseball as spring training gets rolling. All that and more is on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Punch it into your TI-83 graphing calculator and see what ya get.

  • Episode 182 | January 21, 2020: LARRY'S IN THE HALL (and also some other stuff)

    22/01/2020 Duração: 01h07min

The last 48 hours of Rockies fandom have been absolutely exhausting, but with Tuesday came some incredible and unprecedented news: your, my, and our Colorado Rockies have their first Hall of Famer. At long last, Larry Walker is headed to the Hall. Anthony and Tyler break down what got ol' Mooselips to cross the threshold for the game's greatest honor (or honour) as well as some of their favorite (or favourite) memories of the Canadian legend.Plus, there's some other stuff going on with the Rockies you may have heard about. The Nolan Arenado-Jeff Bridich, uh...feud? beef? spat? whatever it is, we spend a lot of time talking about it. Hopefully by the time you hear this, all of our takes are outdated and everything has been mended and is good again. All that and more is here on the 182nd episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Slap it on a plaque and take it to Cooperstown!

  • Episode 181 | December 18, 2019: What A Thrilling Offseason

    19/12/2019 Duração: 01h57min

We haven't done a show in like three months, SO HERE IT IS, YOU UNGRATEFUL INGRATES. Just kidding, we love [most of] you. On this week's/month's episode, we try to break down what is going on with the Rockies offseason because nothing seems to be going on with the Rockies offseason! We figured we had nothing to talk about, and then we somehow talked for an hour about how absolutely nothing is going on with the Rockies offseason. But THEN, hooooo boy are you in for a treat. Anthony and Tyler long ago established their friendship on baseball and hating television commercials, and the back half of this episode is all about the worst holiday commercials of 2019.All that and more is on this, uh, winter season's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Use it to blackmail Santa Claus into giving you a luxury car you don't deserve!

  • Episode 180 | October 16, 2019: ANTHONY'S BABY IS COMING

    16/10/2019 Duração: 42min

As the title of our 180th episode may have clued you in, ANTHONY'S BABY IS NEARLY HERE. So this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast might be our last while the 2019 MLB season is still ongoing. We'll discuss the impending terror of fatherhood for one of our hosts while the other dissects the various bids he's received to take out a dead tree in his backyard. Truly harrowing content. The Washington Nationals are headed to the World Series! They'll also have a lengthy layoff until Game 1 after sweeping their way through the NLCS. Feels like we've seen that story play out before, but for the life of me, I can't remember when or what happened and please no one remind me.Plus, we field your #AskPDP queries from the final weeks of the regular season and start to the 2019 postseason. All that and more is here on the latest edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, the last one before one of us brings offspring into the world!

  • Episode 179 | October 1, 2019: AND WE BACK (And We Back...and we back)

    01/10/2019 Duração: 01h04min

The 2019 Colorado Rockies season has (mercifully) come to an end, but man the stories certainly haven't. In the first 48 hours after the conclusion to arguably the most disappointing season in franchise history, the Rockies announced an underwhelming extension of their extremely underwhelming TV deal that basically guarantees they'll still have among the fewest televised games in the big leagues, and their owner and general manager held a strange press conference in which they cried poor in reference to adding payroll for 2020, revealed odd details about Nolan Arenado's contract, and basically came across as frighteningly out of touch with external evaluations of the franchise's current state. So with that, we're back! The big league playoffs start tonight, and we'll give you our predictions for how all of that shakes out. It's a new episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! For the first time in over a month! Pretend like it means something!

  • Episode 178 | August 23, 2019: Tim Melville and The Lost Season

    23/08/2019 Duração: 01h07min

We'll always have The Tim Melville Game. This week on your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we'll take a look at the unlikely road back to the big leagues for new cultural phenomenon Tim Melville. From a high draft pedigree and huge signing bonus to a being a journeyman prospect to working at a barbecue joint to independent ball to Chase Field on a weird and fun August afternoon, Melville gave the Rockies -- and Rockies fans -- something to love this week. We'll give our appreciation for it.Plus, the final six weeks of the season can give the Rockies a look at what could be key contributors going forward. Will that be the plan? And if so, who should be getting looks? And we've got a surprise announcement about a Rockies organization member going overseas soon. All that and more on this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Order it with your two meat and sides combination!

  • Episode 177 | August 16, 2019: Apparently They're The Cucarachas Now?

    16/08/2019 Duração: 44min

The Rockies have won exactly 10 games in the second half since the start of July, but they brought a new wrinkle into the season with the introduction of the Cucarachas...um...meme? Identity? Gag? We'll discuss what it means for where the clubhouse is right now as the Rockies try to salvage something from this season and what it could mean about where the clubhouse has been throughout this season and this stunning regression.Plus, Dom Nunez has arrived in the big leagues, Jeff Hoffman continues ping-ponging back and forth between Albuquerque and Denver, and the best prospect talent in the system is still at the lower levels. How much should the final few weeks of this lost season go toward playing young players and getting a read on what this team will look like in 2020?All that and more is here on the latest edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. YUUUUMMMMM!

  • Episode 176 | August 8, 2019: All Your Questions, All Your Lies

    08/08/2019 Duração: 01h32min

The Rockies' season continues to slip away, and the boys of your favorite podcast are back to discuss as little of it as possible. Instead of re-crunching the numbers on what has gone wrong (basically everything), this week's show is heavy on your #AskPDP queries from how the Rockies can try to fix things over the offseason to kinds of dogs you'd rather pet and everything in between.Plus, we'll take a look at Major League Baseball's (very cool!) decision to play a game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa next year and tell you that it's totally fine if you like that movie. Really, it is. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's the 176th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast! Drink it slowly as you wander Coors Field in misery!

  • Episode 175 | August 2, 2019: A Long, Deep, Depressed Sigh

    02/08/2019 Duração: 54min

Well, here we are. The trade deadline is in the books. The Rockies are in last place. Apathy seems to be rampant among people who headed into this season full of hope that the Rockies would finally capture their first National League West championship in franchise history. There is major unrest in fans' perception of the front office. The clock is ticking on Nolan Arenado's post-2021 opt-out possibility. Things don't feel great. On this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we try to discuss, in some coherent fashion, what has gone wrong, why the Rockies didn't move anyone at the deadline (hint: nobody wanted the players they would've liked to move), and what's next for this team and this franchise. The funeral dirge music is back leading off this week's show which gives you a pretty good idea of our mood. It's the 175th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Find it at your local creaky-gated cemetery!

  • Episode 174 | July 26, 2019: Farewell, Tulo And Other Things

    26/07/2019 Duração: 01h18min

We've missed out on recording two out of the last three weeks, but it turns out that the Rockies have been playing absolutely terrible baseball, so maybe it was for the best. On this week's episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, we begin with the news that former Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has announced his retirement from the game of baseball. We look back on Tulo's complicated legacy as a Rockies franchise pillar from his supreme brilliance on the field to the health issues that robbed him of too much of that time to his chilly reputation away from the game he loved.Plus, the Rockies have been terrible lately. Like legitimately, actually, 16-losses-in-their-last-20 terrible. Where does that leave them headed toward the MLB trade deadline? Not in a great spot at all. We'll discuss why and what it means going toward 2020 and beyond. Finally, we'll answer some of your #AskPDP queries from the best pizza toppings to why the Rockies keep coming up empty in attempting to find a long-term answer at first ba

  • Episode 173 | July 12, 2019: Trade Bad Players, Get Good Players, Win Championship

    12/07/2019 Duração: 01h07min

Your friendly neighborhood Colorado Rockies podcast is back and better than ever*!(*offer may not be valid or true)After our one week All-Star/illness hiatus, the PDP returns to get you set for the start of the second half. The Rockies floundered their way into the break on a six-game losing streak and now find three teams ahead of them in the National League West. Not only that, but the Trade Deadline is approaching, and the July 31 one is the only one now. What will the Rockies' approach be to try to better a club that, as of right now, looks like it'll struggle to make a third straight playoff appearance? What trade targets could be possible for the Rockies, and how likely are they to pony up the prospect price tag it would take to land someone big?Plus, we'll field some #AskPDP questions about when we'll retire (never, you poor saps) to which video game character would make the best deadline acquisition and more. All that and more on the Purple Dinosaur Podcast. Purchase it at the fence location in St. Den

  • Episode 172 | June 28, 2019: Go Chubs, Gooooooooo!

    29/06/2019 Duração: 49min

Let's be honest: the Rockies' loss to the Dodgers on Thursday was frustrating. Their three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers last week -- on three straight walk-off losses -- was infuriating. They've lost an outlandish amount of ground in the National League West race and may well be playing for just another one-game playoff to decide their postseason fate in 2019. But nobody cares about that. That's because this week, the Grand Junction Rockies took Twitter by storm with the most bizarre couple of tweets and reaction to other tweets that maybe any Rookie-level team has ever projected to the public. After a seemingly earnest fan suggested that the Rockies change their name to the Humpback Chubs to honor a local and once endangered species of fish, the Rockies took it to strange places on social media and then started swatting people down with blocks. We'll give you our thoughts on just how hilarious and absurd this whole situation is and how the Rockies can make it better. All that and more on this week's

  • Episode 171 | June 21, 2019: A Daunting Task

    21/06/2019 Duração: 01h19min

The PDP is back for another week and with a new hosting service that means you might be listening to us on Spotify or a whole bunch of other places! And if you are, we thank you for doing so. And if you're not, why are you reading this? That seems like a weird use of your time.Anywho, on this week's episode of the show, we discuss the Rockies latest (!) sweep of the D-backs which runs Colorado's winning streak over Arizona to eight (!!) straight games for the first time in franchise history (!!!). Now the task gets even tougher as the purple strong boys head to Los Angeles to tangle with the front-running Dodgers in what is, on June 21, their first visit to Los Angeles this year somehow. This week, we break down Trevor Story's injured thumb and Nolan Arenado's injured big toe (the captain of the toes) as well as the DFAs of Chris Rusin and Mike Dunn. Plus we take a host of #AskPDPs and break down a certain commercial that has Rockies Twitter all aflutter. If you like the PDP, give us a good ol' five-star rating

  • Episode 170 | June 14, 2019: Home and Cookin'

    14/06/2019 Duração: 46min

With a Thursday night win over the Padres, your, my, and our Colorado Rockies have won 11 of their last 12 games at home and continue pushing themselves into second place in the National League West. A lot of stuff has been going right as of late. Charlie Blackmon is back to being Charlie Blackmon. Peter Lambert has been a terrific addition to the rotation -- albeit through just two starts. And it just never quite feels like the Rockies are out of a game at home, which is pretty dang fun. We'll take a look at some of what's propelled the Rockies to such a strong run at home as of late and how to keep it going. We'll discuss Colorado's suddenly strung bullpen and some of what has plagued the rotation in recent weeks. Plus, the weekly Kyle Freeland discussion is back after the lefty's second start with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Hint: the numbers were ugly but the full scope may not be as ugly as it appears.Plus, what was the deal with that beanball war with the Cubs? That was dumb. We'll break it down.

  • Episode 169 | June 7, 2019: Episode 1Nice

    07/06/2019 Duração: 38min

The PDP returns for another week of Colorado Rockies baseball and hopefully will actually upload to your podcast feeds on time this week! Today, we're discussing a bunch of different things in a shorter period of time because Anthony had to go to work. But maybe that'll actually be good because we had to stay on topic rather than doing, you know, like a normal version of this show.Peter Lambert has arrived, and his big league debut was nothing short of masterful. The baby-faced assassin went seven terrific innings against the Cubs on Thursday, setting a new Rockies franchise record for strikeouts in a debut with nine. What can we expect from Lambert going forward?Where Lambert was starting at the site of Kyle Freeland's signature outing from 2018, Freeland could not have been farther away -- at least in baseball terms. Colorado's homegrown star was pitching Thursday night in Omaha for Triple-A Albuquerque and the results, at least numbers-wise, weren't that pretty. We'll break down why the numbers don't reall

  • Episode 168 | May 31, 2019: .500, Dead Or Alive!

    31/05/2019 Duração: 01h16min

With six wins in the first seven games of a 10-game homestand, your, my, and our Colorado Rockies are back over the .500 mark for the first time since they were 2-1 starting the season in Miami. And the way they've gotten there? It's not...entirely clear. The offense has been good! The pitching has been not so good! But sometimes the pitching has been good and the offense has been not so good! Whatever they're doing, it's working. Since starting 3-12 this season, the Rockies are 25-15, one of the best winning percentages in baseball over that span. There are a lot of good things to take away from the last several days of Rockies baseball, and we'll discuss them in such segments as our annual "Is Ian Desmond Finally Fixed?" segment along with "Ryan McMahon: Dreamy and Good" and "Tony Wolters, Mirage or Monster?"The Toronto Blue Jays and thiccccc Vladimir Guerrero Jr. arrive at Coors Field tonight. We'll talk about how Tulo was once a member of that team and apparently came back to Denver for an interleague seri

  • Episode 167 | May 23, 2019: A Ham Sandwich Kind of Stretch

    23/05/2019 Duração: 01h14min

The Rockies have played pretty middle-of-the-road ball as of late. After starting the season nine games under the .500 mark through their first 15 games, they're five over ever since. Still, there isn't a lot going great at the moment, and there isn't a lot going terribly. On this week's episode of your favorite Colorado Rockies podcast, we discuss this strange road trip, the Rockies' recent struggles with heaps of strikeouts, and the possibility that they can finally make up some ground with a homestand coming against some of the weaker teams in the American League squads.Top prospect Brendan Rodgers has arrived at the big league level, but with the Rockies continuing to run a maybe-not-full-healthy Daniel Murphy out to first base and with Ryan McMahon in need of starts and at-bats, too, where can Rodgers get everyday work?Plus, we take your #AskPDP queries on everything from possible trade targets to what the coolest future renovations at Coors Field would be. All that and more is on this week's edition of

  • Episode 166 | May 16, 2019: Brendan. Austin. Rodgers. He comin'.

    17/05/2019 Duração: 43min

We had already planned to record the 166th episode of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast on Thursday morning, and then we went into CRAZY HYPER URGENT MODE when the news broke that top Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers is reportedly headed to the big leagues on Friday. What does it all mean, Basil? We'll look at what Rodgers' brilliant start to the 2019 season with Triple-A Albuquerque means, how the Rockies can get him everyday playing time, and what the future looks like for the infield at large.Plus, the Rockies are coming out of one of the strangest two-game series we've seen in -- ever. We'll look back at the last two days in Boston, the bizarre 24-strikeout performance that still somehow turned into a win, and the fact that getting a split on the road is always the goal, and somehow the Rockies did that against the defending World Series champions.Plus, the Rox head to Philadelphia this weekend to take on the Fightin' Bryce Harpers. We'll take a look at Harper's recent struggles and what they might mean for the

  • Episode 165 | May 10, 2019: Beers, Baseball, Battlestar Galactica

    10/05/2019 Duração: 51min

On this week's edition of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, Anthony and Tyler are in the same location where they are joined by Anthony's wife, Nicole, and Tyler's dog, Laika! Thanks to the folks at Chain Reaction Brewing Company, who unwittingly hosted this episode and provided no resources for it but still served us some delicious beverages for Episode 165.The Rockies are coming off an insane win over the San Francisco Giants in which they gave up 11 runs but still somehow came away victorious. We'll discuss Kyle Freeland's start and whether or not Rockies fans should be worries about where their hometown ace is at this point in the season.Plus, another division rival arrives this weekend for a three-game series at Coors Field. We'll run through the pitching matchups with the Padres and how this set stacks up for Colorado before hitting the road again. Also thrown in here, a discussion of what the worst lineup in Rockies history would look like which required way more thought and consideration than we anticipate

  • Episode 164 | May 3, 2019: Coming Home Happy

    03/05/2019 Duração: 01h12min

Your, my, and our Colorado Rockies return from a seven-game road trip to open up a nine-game homestand this weekend at Coors Field, and they do so at 15-17 overall this year. Last year at this point? They were 17-15. So basically, what we're saying, is that 3-12 start to the year that had us all tearing our hair out and losing our minds has meant virtually nothing. It also means that they're trending in a terrific direction as they return home for this season-long homestand. The Rockies have won 12 of their last 17 games and arrive at Coors Field with 22 runs over their last 18 innings, finishing off their seven-game swing away from Denver with two straight wins over the Milwaukee Brewers. A lot of things are headed in the right direction for this team, including its continued hot bats and steady enough starting pitching. There are still points to discuss with some areas of concern. Though Ian Desmond has shown improvement in certain categories, his overall numbers are still quite bad. With Raimel Tapia's ascen
