  • Estonia, The Digital Republic: Where Patients Own Their Data

    29/07/2019 Duração: 36min

An Insight into Our Possible Future Faster than You Think This keynote session was presented at the 2018 DPharm conference. Estonia is now a digital republic with a virtual government, blockchained and secure. Our keynote guest from Estonia tells us how Estonia became the fastest country in the world to go digital. Its 1.3 million citizens pay with their mobile phones, have their health records stored in the digital cloud, and filed their annual tax return online in five minutes. This session demonstrates how Estonian citizens have come to own their personal health records, how doctors have to get their permission to use these records, and how patients choose their own medications digitally. We also learn about their challenges, policies, and of course their vision for digital clinical trials. Speakers: Indrek Onnik, Program Manager, E-Estonia Showroom, a partner of the Estonian Government The 9th annual DPharm conference will take place on September 17-18, 2019 in Boston, MA. In this session presented at the 2018 DPharm conference, Rob Goodwin and Amy Nordo share an exciting new collaboration - including industry and academia, as well as health authorities and leading technologists - positioned to break through the barriers to allow the power and the promise of eSource across companies and medical centers. The potential for eSource has been discussed for years, but realizing its promise has been difficult. While most health data today can be captured within electronic health records, the diversity of systems across medical centers and around the world coupled with a lack of health data interoperability has limited our ability to source clinical trial data from existing electronic systems across thousands of investigator sites supporting trials globally. Speakers: Rob Goodwin, VP, Operations Center of Excellence, Global Product Development, Pfizer, Inc. Amy Nordo, Program Director, Duke Center for Healthcare Informatics The 9th annual DPharm conference will take place Septembe

  • Including Wellness in the Pharma Model - How Drug Delivery will be a Key Enabler

    21/07/2019 Duração: 25min

In this industry keynote recorded at the 8th annual Partnership Opportunities in Drug Delivery (PODD) conference, Justin Wright, PhD, Global Head of Innovation, Novartis, discusses how the transformation from traditional drugs to next-generation product systems, where sometimes the drug is only a component of the overall product offering, is creating a opportunity for non-traditional competitors and start-ups to access the market and potentially redefine the value model associated with drug pricing. To stay competitive, the pharmaceutical industry’s current business model needs to evolve rapidly from a reactive to a prevention model. At the core of this type of evolved model will be a dynamic patient interface with extraordinary patient engagement. And the delivery system will undoubtedly be a key enabler in the process. Dr Wright reviews the current and future state with his perspective and cases studies to help shed light on the key areas where focus is needed focus and corresponding opportunities lie. J

  • Alzheimer’s Studies: Exploring Registries to Improve Enrollment & Trial Design

    25/06/2019 Duração: 30min

Roughly, 5.7 million people in the U.S. are living with Alzheimer’s. Globally, an estimated 47 million individuals are living with dementia. There is no cure, and treatments can only relieve certain symptoms for some people. Research studies so far have a poor record. Patients can face incredible enrollment hurdles in clinical trials.  A Patient Registry can be very useful in identifying patients. A registry can also address the original problem statement about failed trials. A robust, living registry becomes a data pool from which we can improve both drug discovery, using probabilistic statistics and AI/ML to identify new drug candidates, and drug development, using simulators to predict likelihood of success in Phase 2 or 3. In this podcast, we discuss major challenges facing developers of Alzheimer’s therapies and address patient registries and how they can improve enrollment and trial design. In this podcast, we will hear some details about the HealthyMindsRegistry, Synexushmr.com and the Protect Study

  • Combining IO Modalities In a Cost Effective, Patient Beneficial Manner

    01/05/2019 Duração: 40min

The hardest thing to figure out now is what interventions and combinations make the most sense in which patients and how to combine all these emerging modalities in a way that is cost effective, benefits patients and unfolds in our lifetime. There are hypothesis on what technologies should be explored together, however very few companies have all the relevant skills, reagents or product candidates in one setting, so it requires collaboration to generate the most powerful combinations and sequence of interventions. This overview talk, followed by a panel will delve into the following: What is the underlying pathobiology and how it is similar from patient to patient and how it is different in individuals? What interventions make the most sense and how to get the right patient into the studies to test your hypothesis? How can we build an integrated suite of tools to ask and answer all the  relevant questions to appropriately characterize patients? How can we develop something cost effective that doesn’t necessarily
