Marsh Chapel Sunday Services

Marsh Chapel presents the 50th Annual Service of Lessons & Carols featuring music from the Marsh Chapel Choir and the Majestic Brass Quintet. Scripture Readings for the Christmas season are read by members of the Marsh Chapel Staff and Community. A video recording of the extended Friday evening service of Lessons & Carols is also available on the Marsh Chapel website. 

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled "Communion Meditation." The Marsh Chapel Choir performs "Psallite, unigenito" by Michael Praetorius, and "I wonder as I wander" by John Rutter, along with service music and hymns. 

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled "Thoughts at Thanksgiving." The Marsh Chapel Choir performs "Thou shalt know him" by Mark Sirett, and "Te Deum à 8" by Felix Mendelssohn, along with service music and hymns. 

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill and Dr. Scott Jarrett present a joint message on the scholarship and theology of the day's Bach Cantata, entitled "The Bach Experience." The Marsh Chapel Choir performs “Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir, BWV 131" by J.S. Bach along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Karen Coleman preaches a sermon entitled "There's Enough For Everyone." The Marsh Chapel Choir performs “Lift thine eyes (from Elijah)” by Felix Mendelssohn,  and “There is a balm in Gilead” arranged by Ysaye M. Barnwell,  along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “For All the Saints.” The Marsh Chapel Choir performs “Requiem aeternam II, from Requiem” and “I heard a voice from heaven, from Requiem” both by Herbert Howells,  along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “The Horizon of Love.” The Marsh Chapel Choir performs “Sicut Moses, SWV 68 " by Heinrich Schütz,  and “Lord, Thou hast been our refuge" by Ralph Vaughan Williams,  along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “The Promise of Hope." The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “O pray for the peace of Jerusalem” by Thomas Tomkins, and "O how amiable” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill and Dr. Scott Allen Jarrett preach a sermon entitled “The Bach Experience.” The Marsh Chapel Choir and Collegium performs the cantata “Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot, BWV 39" by J.S. Bach along with service music and hymns.

Mr. Jonathan Byung Hoon Lee preaches a sermon entitled “Cornerstone.” The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Отче наш (Otche nash [The Lord’s Prayer])” by Antony Arensky, and “Nunc dimittis (St. Paul Evening Service)” by Herbert Howells, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Jessica Chicka preaches a sermon entitled “What to do?” The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “O sacrum convivium” by Tomás Luis de Victoria, and “O sacrum convivium” by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “Divine Generosity." The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Ain’t got time to die ” by Hall Johnson, and "All you works of the Lord, bless the Lord ” by Kenneth Jennings, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “Conscience." The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “O sing unto the Lord a new song ” by John Amner, and “Psalm 121 (from Requiem)” by Herbert Howells, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “Well Begun is Half Done.” The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Surely the Lord is in this place” by Isaiah Burnell, and “He, watching over Israel (from Elijah)” by Felix Mendelssohn, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “Alma Mater” in honor of Boston University's Matriculation Service. The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Prayer I (from AMDG)” by Benjamin Britten, and “Let us break bread together”  arranged by William Lawrence, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill preaches a sermon entitled “A Moment of Inspiration.” The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Expectans expectavi Dominum” by G. P. da Palestrina, and “Light Everlasting” by O. C. Christiansen, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Karen Coleman preaches a sermon entitled “What will it take?” The Marsh Chapel Choir sings “Liebster Jesu, hör mein Flehen” by Johann Michael Bach, and “Deus misereatur nostri (Psalm 67)” by Melchior Vulpiusi, along with service music and hymns.

The Rev. Dr. Regina Walton preaches a sermon entitled "Sink or Swim?" The Marsh Chapel Choir sings "Lord, for they tender mercy's sake" by Richard Farrant, and "O salutaris Hostia" by Gioachino Rossini, along with service music and hymns.
