Bible In The News

For months now rumours have been circulating that the British government was planning to scrap parts of the EU-UK withdrawal agreement which it signed up it after the 2019 General Election. This agreement is a legally binding agreement and was seen to be the foundation of the UK-EU relationship going forward after Britain’s departure from the European Union.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has stated his interest in expanding Russian influence into the Baltic States. The Russian Duma is looking to nullify Lithuania's independence, bringing it back under Russian hegemony.

It’s no secret that Russia has used their position as an energy supplier to Europe for political gain. Back in January 2006 Russia cut off gas to Ukraine, which led to countries further down stream, such as Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia & Serbia also loosing supplies. Other countries such as France, Germany and Austria also saw significant reductions in supply from Russia. Russia again cut gas supplies in 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015 after which Ukraine found new gas supplies from European Union Countries. More recently Russia has cut off gas supplies to Finland, Poland and Bulgaria during the on-going war in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, 11th May, the IDF entered Jenin, a town in the north of the so-called West Bank in an operation to capture wanted terrorists inside. As they entered the town, they encountered heavy gunfire from Palestinian militants inside the town. 

As Russia continues its aggression in the Ukraine it turns off the gas to parts of Europe. Europe responds seeking to ban Russian oil completely with plans underway to also ban Russian gas by the end of the decade. As all this unfolds, Israel eyes up the opportunities. In this weeks Bible in the News we consider these latest developments in the light of Bible prophecy.

One of the greatest outcomes of the war in Ukraine has been an impetus for a massive wave of immigration to Israel. Ukraine is in the news every day due to the ongoing war that shows no sign of ending any time soon.  In this war, as with many wars refugees flee the conflict sometimes creating enormous upheavals in populations.  When war broke out in Ukraine Israel was already preparing for what would inevitably occur, aliyah, a wave of Jewish immigration.  And it did. 

The repercussions of Russia’s invasion into Ukraine are being felt around the globe. Israel is no exception. Ukrainian Jews, among those fleeing the conflict, are getting in line to immigrate to Israel. In Israel there is growing concern about the nation’s future relationship with Russia. It now has permanent military bases in Syria to the north and Russia is a key player in the nuclear negotiations with Iran. Meanwhile, Israel is making peace with its Arab neighbours and is positioned to benefit greatly from tightening global natural gas supply and its ability to offer alternative energy security to countries concerned about Russia. On April 1st, Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced the completion of negotiations and the signing of a “milestone” free-trade agreement.

The kingdom of men is depicted in Daniel by the image of chapter 2. We live in the time of the feet and toes which are made of iron, the remnants of the Roman Empire, and clay described as “the seed of men.” Russia has begun the process of bringing the broken pieces of the Roman Empire into its clay grasp. Before Russia fulfills the prophetic word by invading the Middle East it must bring Europe under its control. This process has begun. This week in the Bible in the News we are sharing a special talk given in Brantford where we explore the Bible prophecies regarding Russia’s grand move to establish its image empire.

One of the fascinating aspects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine over the last month has been the response of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The West have shown themselves unable to do anything to prevent Russia from invading Ukraine. Instead they can do nothing but stand by and watch, asking why Putin is doing this, words they will echo when they ask "Art thou come to take a spoil"

Vladimir Putin has begun the task long foretold in history of building up the image empire for the latter day battle of Armageddon. The world is in disbelief of Russia's actions as it moves to conquer Ukraine. As Bible believers we should not only expect it - but anticipate it will continue to eventually include all of Europe. 

Events are taking place in Europe that the Bible spoke of, and therefore many Bible students have expected and looked for over hundreds, and even thousands of years.  Even on this program we have spoke often of the time when Russia would begin to build up its empire.  Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, this is John Billington with you

The prophecy of Zechariah 6 is a prophecy concerning future events.  The man who is the Branch is seen as both king and priest in his kingdom, with the holy temple being rebuilt.  Most interestingly the chapter opens with two “mountain” powers seemingly to the north and south of Jerusalem in the context of the chapter.  We are not left to wonder at these northern and southern powers as this prophecy fits hand in glove with the latter-day King of the North and King of the South in Daniel 11:40-45 and the northern and southern alliances in Ezekiel 38.

While the threat of Russian aggression on Ukraine escalates, protests calling for freedom from COVID mandates have spread from Canada to other western democracies.

The nations prepare for war sending troops and equipment to the territories around the Ukraine as tensions rise.

Thursday of this week was Holocaust Remembrance Day – commemorated on the day that the Auschwitz Concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945. The day remembers the killing of six million Jews, two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to move toward a climax. The Times of Israel and other media around the world citing reports that families of US embassy workers in Ukraine have been told to start evacuating soon. Will Russia invade Ukraine or are they simply playing a game of brinkmanship with the west to gain traction in negotiations? Today on the UK Telegraph:
