Rundy Purdy's life changed at the age of 24 when he dropped everything to be a caregiver to his grandparents. As a young caregiver, Purdy had to learn how to take care of his grandparents who were battling Alzheimer's and heart disease. He wrote a memoir about his time as a caregiver called The Sea is Wide: A Memoir of Caregiving. Jimmy Charles is a Nashville artist who was on Season 9 of American Idol. He became an advocate for prostate awareness after connecting with a prostate cancer patient at Chesapeake Urology. After that, he wrote the song "Superman" dedicated to those battling diseases and their families. While recording the song, he lost his own father. Jazz singer Ken Slavin is an icon on the San Antonio music scene. His vocal style has been compared to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. The cabaret crooner has been caring for his mother who has Stage 4, metastasized renal cancer. Ken is also a noted PR professional who has represented companies, non-profits and governmental agencies large and small. Dr. Stacey Young-McCaughan is a professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She has researched the effects of exercising on cancer and PTSD. She received her basic nursing degree from the University of Wyoming, her master’s degree in oncology nursing from Yale University, and her doctoral degree in research nursing from the University of California, San Francisco.
