There are times in our lives when we feel defeated. Often, these can be the times where God can work most powerfully. In Acts 8, what we see in the first church was that its growth really took off when persecution struck and the people were forced to scatter. What looks like defeat is often God's victory in disguise!

In week 3, we talked about what we’re doing as a church to help people grow in their faith and the importance of getting connected to a church family. Carmel Groups Pastor Dan Towle, brings this series to a close as we look to Jesus and see for ourselves what brings Him joy, and the important part we have to play.

Last week, we talked about disciple making, and how that is our call for each of us individually. But our faith was never meant to be lived alone. Even from the very beginning of Christianity, there was a body of believers, a church, for people to be connected to. At Genesis, we’ve developed a pathway for everyone to join and find a way to connect in community here, to encounter Jesus, follow Jesus, and multiply a few.

The mission of Genesis Church is Helping People Find Their Way Back to God. This comes out of 2 Cor 5:20 when we read “we are Christ’s ambassadors; …We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” (NLT) Everything we do at Genesis Church – from kids to students to adults - is filtered through the mission of “helping people find their way back to God.” What does this mission mean for each person at Genesis? How do we make the church’s mission our personal mission?

Life happens. People hurt us. If we’re not careful, bitterness can get the best of us and influence everything we do. Someone once said, “Bitterness is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.” God can help us overcome our BITTERNESS so that we can travel light.

Loneliness is an epidemic in our culture. So many of us feel isolated and the last couple of years have only intensified that feeling. God cares about the lonely and has a plan to overcome it. Let go of LONELINESS and travel light.

Busyness has become a serious problem that is weighing us all down. It keeps us on the run and distracts us away from things that matter the most, but in Luke 10, Jesus wants us to see that there’s something more important in life than getting things done.

The gospel of John closes with this strange story of Jesus once again appearing to his disciples and helping them catch some fish. But in that moment, he takes the opportunity to restore Peter to his place of leadership. In doing so, he reminds him, and us, that our performance is not what earns us favor with God.
