Roam Schooled

Sinopse

Roam Schooled is a show where I conduct in-depth, in-person investigations into topics chosen by a child (one of my 6-year-old twin daughters). We go out in our 1991 Winnebago and talk to people, in person. One question typically leads us to another question and away we go... It's a show about the pleasure of finding things out.

Episódios

  • Episode 7: Your Days Are Numbered

    28/06/2016 Duração: 01h44s

The girls turn seven in this episode. Seems like we spend a lot of time both contemplating the moment of our birth and pondering how we will die. Birthdays and End of Days are a running theme as we talk with an asteroid-hunter, an epidemiologist, and hear interesting stories about birth and near-death from those who have pondered it considerably more than we have (including Courtenay Hameister, Jeff Pehrson, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Matt Zaffino, and Laura Gibson).  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 6: How Did I Get Here?

    05/05/2016 Duração: 01h06min

Jim and the girls jet to New York in search of an answer that leads not just to Ellis Island, but to Vietnam, and back through the years to an exceptionally complicated moment in time.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 5: You Are Welcome

    04/04/2016 Duração: 51min

“What the heck is the Statue of Liberty there for?” And with that, we’re off, roaming the complicated landscapes of American identity, American dreams, American history and American politics. A first of a two-part series.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 4: The Lone Wolf

    10/02/2016 Duração: 01h01min

Sometimes you choose to go it alone. Sometimes, this solitude is inflicted on you. In this episode we talk with people who are either born, or have spent considerable time apart from the pack.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 3: Beyond Believing

    04/01/2016 Duração: 01h01min

Roam Schooled travels to the Southwest and talks to people about beliefs that are beyond science. We meet a renowned Bigfoot expert Thom Powell, Phoenix Lights filmmaker/author Dr. Lynne Kitei, musical giant Van Dyke Parks, and many others that uncover why sometimes we believe and other times we may not.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 2: Worth the Risk

    08/12/2015 Duração: 01h10s

We listened as risk takers (a trapeze artist, a habitual gambler, a naked DJ, an extreme rock climber, a stuntman) address just what is at stake in their risks, and we examined our own thrill-seeking tendencies.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Episode 1: Remember Me?

    27/10/2015 Duração: 58min

In our debut episode, we went in search of answers to seemingly simple questions: Why do people have tombstones? What is memorialization? From the tangible sculpted rock face of the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota to the personal accounts of a mortician in Philadelphia, we listen as people tell us why they remember.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
