Text: 1 Corinthians 10:1-11

In this message, we look at the commandment to love our brother and try to answer the question: "Why do I need a command to love my brother?" This commandment is old in that it told us to love, but it is new in that Jesus showed us how to love. (Text: 1John 2:7-11)

How can I know that I truly know who God is? Is knowing ABOUT God the same as knowing God, or is there a feeling associated with knowing Him? In this message, we will discuss what Scripture says about knowing that you know God, that is, that you truly have a relationship with Him. (Text: 1John 2:3-6)

The truth is that sin is a reality for every person. Even Christians deal with sin. So what happens when a Christian sins? In this message, we'll see what Jesus does for the Christian who finds himself once again in need of forgiveness. (Text: 1John 2:1-2)

There are nearly 30 references to love in the book of 1John. No doubt, it is a major theme throughout the book, yet for all the mentions of love in his letter, there is not one mention of love in chapter one. Chapter one is all about light. To really understand that God is love, we must first understand that God is light. (Text: 1John 1:5-10)

What happens when we truly experience Jesus? We find complete joy and fellowship with Christ and His church, and we desire others to experience it, too. This is the first message in a study through 1 John. (Text: 1John 1:1-4)

Have you ever been angry with God? In Jonah 4, we find Jonah angry with God and once again in need of God's extravagant mercy. God taught Jonah three valuable lessons that still apply today. (Text: Jonah 4:1-11)

When we come to Jonah 3, we find Jonah standing once again on dry land and ready to obey God. His message to Nineveh, though not one of love and compassion, was truthful and effective. In this chapter, we see that the people of Nineveh believed God's message, and that belief produced a change in their behavior. (Text: Jonah 3:1-10)

Just as God used the storm, He sent a whale to extend mercy to Jonah. The whale wasn’t a punishment but a way back to God’s will and obedience. It brought Jonah a second chance. Unfortunately, it took a whale to get Jonah’s attention. Are we willing to seek mercy and forgiveness before God sends a whale to get our attention? (Text: Jonah 2:1-10)

Storms in life aren’t necessarily punishments from God. For Job, Daniel, and Joseph, their “storms” were tests, not results of sinful choices. For Jonah, however, we understand that his storm was the result of disobedience, yet it was in fact an act of mercy. God doesn’t force us to obey, but there are consequences if we don’t. In this message we’ll look at this type of storm, those events God sends into our lives to get our attention during times of disobedience and rebellion. (Text: Jonah 1:3-15)

When we look at Jonah's response to God's call to go to Nineveh, we have to answer the question of why Jonah ran away. Why didn't he just tell God no and stay where he was? Why travel all the way to Tarshish? The answer may surprise you. (Text: Jonah 1:1-2)

In 1Samuel 15, the prophet told Saul that God values obedience over sacrifice. In Joshua 7, God told Joshua it wasn’t the time to pray while there was sin in the camp. In other words, sin saps the power from our prayer and blocks them from getting answered. The truth is that oftentimes we are to blame for unanswered prayers. God has told us how to pray and even what to say, but many times, unanswered prayers are due to the fact that we have allowed something to come between us and God. That something is called sin, and it strains our relationship. (Text: James 1:5-8; 4:1-10)

In Matthew 5-7, Jesus introduced the idea of God as our heavenly Father. Never before had this been a concept taught or understood by God’s people. In this passage Jesus uses the term “Father” about 15 times, and He even uses human examples of fatherhood to show us the relationship we can have with Him. Through Jesus’ teaching, we see what the perfect Father looks like so that we may pattern our own lives accordingly. (Text: Matthew 5:44-48)

Why doesn’t God always say YES to our prayers? If God loves us, why doesn’t He give us what we want or need? There are several reasons why God may not answer our prayers the way we want Him to, but ultimately, we must learn to trust God’s judgment over our own and to accept whatever He chooses. (Text: Mark 9:2-8)

Wherever you are is the best place to pray. Whenever you can is the best time to pray. Whatever you're thinking is the best thing to say. There's not one specific way to talk to God, so don't get overwhelmed with what to say to God. Just say something. (Text: Romans 8:26-27)

As Americans on Memorial Day, it is our responsibility and duty to remember what so many did for us and our country and why they did it. We should honor their memory by continuing to preserve what they fought for and by passing it down to next generation. As Christians EVERY day it is our responsibility to remember what Jesus did and to honor Him by living out our faith and by faithfully passing it down to the next generation. It is imperative that American Christians remember and honor those who gave their lives for our freedom, but we must also remember the spiritual slavery from which we were delivered and the Hero who died yet rose again to free us. How you pray matters more than what you pray. Don’t worry about saying the right or wrong things to God just come humbly, sincerely, and confidently. (Text: Luke 18:9-14; Matthew 5:6-8)
