    06/02/2016 Duração: 01h19min

FAST LANE CCU 56- Season 2 Episode 12 The new episode of FLASH, Fast Lane, brought us a classic villain but, even more importantly, it brought some great development in the West family, and the Star Labs family! We got to know more about Wally West, who has a couple different histories in the comics (between the classic "Kid Flash" and the updted "New 52" version of Wally! Check out what co-host Joe had to say about Fast Lane: The Wild West One of the things I really give this show a lot of credit for is the writer's abilities to take what we know of the comics and turn it on its head. Way more often then not, they do this in a way that still feels both organic to the story and true to the spirit of The Flash canon. One of the big "just like you know it but different" aspects this season is the introduction of Wally West. Read more... • CCU 55 – S2 E11 – THE REVERSE-FLASH RETURNS

    29/01/2016 Duração: 01h11min

Zolomania! This was the episode I'd been waiting all season for, on a lot of levels. I admit that while I do (and likely always will) love this show from the bottom of my nerdy heart, I've had several moments of "hrm?" this season. Those who listen regularly know of my issues w/ this incarnation of Jay Garrick. Some of Barry's behavior has felt very out-of-character to me too. And I remain unsold on the Jay-Caitlin romance (which I'm calling Jaytlin.) Why do I criticize? Lots of reasons, but mostly 'cause I love. The writing on this show is so regularly solid that I'm afraid it makes the less-solid moments stand out all the more. Then, Tuesday 1/26 happened. Read more... 10/12/2015 Duração: 01h09min

[sc:ccutop] RUNNING TO STAND STILL CCU 53 - Season 2 Episode 9 The mid-season finale, Running To Stand Still, has come and gone, and it was a ton of fun! Some fun forward movement, some fun set-up for the rest of the season, and a lot of wonderful family moments. Plus - Wally West is finally here! Join us as we talk through the high points and the low points of this episode, and check out the great listener theories and feedback! From Joe: 'Tis the Mid-Season I grew up in the 80s. Don't let my boyish good looks fool you. Christmas was perhaps an extra fun thing in the 80s, because it was the era of toys. TOYS TOYS TOYS. Movies were geared towards selling them. Hell, even some TV shows were! Those who own the old Buck Rogers or Battlestar Galactica toys know of what I speak. Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, Star Wars, and yes, our beloved super-heroes all had their likeness formed in molded plastic. Read more... • CCU 52 – S2 E8 – Legends of Today

    04/12/2015 Duração: 01h36min

What a great crossover event between Flash and Arrow! To celebrate, we did a crossover PODCAST event! This week, it's CCU and Arrow Squad, Together Again For The First Time Since The Last Time! Join us for the LONGEST podcast in CCU History, as two teams of hosts dissect two hours worth of two teams of superheroes! Not only did Legends of Today and Legends of Yesterday set up Legends of Tomorrow for the January premiere, but it moved Flash and Arrow toward their mid-season finales, and it set up a nice bit of mystery surrounding a certain Speed Enhancing Drug that you just KNOW is going to come into play soon! Plus, this week, we got the introduction to one of DC's biggest villains, Vandal Savage! And now, here to tell you more about that, is Joe "Joey Shakespeare" Zettelmaier: Vandalous And so the two-parter has happened! Unlike our last few, this was less of two semi-connected tales and a true long story broken up over two days. We've seen more heroes onscreen than in anything short of animation. But what a

  • CCU 51 – S2 E7 – GORILLA WARFARE

    20/11/2015 Duração: 01h15min

Putting the "Great" in "Great Ape" I sometimes think back to 15, 10, heck, even 5 years ago. When I thought about that on Wednesday, what I thought was "no way could they have made Grodd work back then." Sure, they could've tried in the old 1990 version of the show. They could've begged Stan Winston, and he'd have made one heck of an animatronic mask on top of some huge dude in an ape costume. But it wouldn't be what we saw this week in Gorilla Warfare. • CCU 50 – S2 E6 – ENTER ZOOM

    13/11/2015 Duração: 01h31min

Some thoughts from CCU Co-Host Joe: Heroes Die What really struck me regarding this week's episode of The Flash, Enter Zoom, was not just the final ten minutes, but the largely similar reaction the fanbase seems to have with it. "EPIC" "I almost cried" "I'm still too out of breath from the final 10 minutes of this week's episode" "Those last ten minutes scared the BLEEP out of me." And these are just reactions from within our beloved CCU community! I've watched Enter Zoom twice now, and I cannot stop thinking of that final fight. Read more... • CCU 49 – S2 E5 – The Darkness And The Light

    07/11/2015 Duração: 01h18min

THE DARKNESS AND THE LIGHT CCU 49 - Season 2 Episode 5 Some thoughts from CCU Co-Host Joe: All's Wells That Ends Wells Oh, Harrison. Harrison, Harrison, Harrison. You have been missed. For me, while I've very much enjoyed Season 2 of the Flash, something has felt...well, a tiny bit off. Just a little something missing. By episode 3, I realized what it was. Good ol' Harry. Sure, we'd seen a brief video clip of Eobard/Wells, and the quick flash of ParaWells, but that wasn't enough. What we were missing were the character interactions. Wells cannot exist in a vacuum. As great as Tom Cavanagh is, and holy cow is he great, he truly shines when interacting with this exceptional cast. Read more... • CCU 48 – S2 E4 – The Fury Of Firestorm

    30/10/2015 Duração: 01h19min

THE FURY OF FIRESTORM CCU 48 - Season 2 Episode 4 Karen and Tony discuss the good, the bad, the ugly, and THE FURY OF FIRESTORM! Joe sends in feedback from another part of the planet, and plenty of listeners share their thoughts too! And a giant walking shark grabs us by the throat. The theme this week of Being Open To New Things was pretty great, and some of our Scooby Gang were open to new things... and some were not! Firestorm certainly went through some changes and, yes, even a little bit of fury! We also got some wonderful stuff with the West family, and some terrific set-up for Legends of Tomorrow AND for the rest of this season of The Flash. And... we got a GIANT WALKING SHARK!!! • CCU 47 – S2 E3 – Family of Rogues

    22/10/2015 Duração: 01h10min

FAMILY OF ROGUES CCU 47 - Season 2 Episode 3 Your co-host, Joe, discusses Family of Rogues, and shares some history of the Flash family from the comics. (Beware, possible comic-book spoilers below!) All In The Family That gushing sound you heard? That was me gushing about this week's episode of The Flash. "Family of Rogues" dealt with things I love: intense relationship dynamics, in-depth character studies, and of course...The Rogues! Sure, we only saw Capt. Cold and Golden Glider (tho' Heat Wave got a wee mention), but that's ok, because the real focus was on the poor, damaged, tragic Snart Family. Again, The Flash tv show does a wonderful job of honoring a Flash comic story, but still making it its own. (COMIC SPOILERS BELOW) Read more... • CCU 46 – S2 E2 – Flash of Two Worlds

    16/10/2015 Duração: 01h22min

Some thoughts on FLASH OF TWO WORLDS, and our CCU Community, from one of your co-hosts, Joe! The Future Is Now! So today, while recording our beloved CCU podcast,Tony and I did something altogether new for us. We live-streamed our session on Blab. I admit to being a bit camera-shy. Despite making a living in theatre, I prefer to lurk in the back of the audience rather than onstage. I often say "I'm like Bigfoot: rarely captured on film." So it was with some trepidation that I agreed to be part of this live event. So we sat down, chatted for a bit, and turned on the camera. Guess what? It was fantastic fun! Tony and I have known each other for many years, so it's easy to be comfortable around him. But what I hadn't really thought about was the running messages from the CCU fans. That's what made it for me. I deeply love being part of this community, and today, it felt like you were there with us. You were insightful, excited, and often hilarious. Read more... • CCU 45 – S2 E1 – The Man Who Saved Central City

    09/10/2015 Duração: 01h12min

THE MAN WHO SAVED CENTRAL CITY CCU 45 - S2 E1 Joe Zettelmaier shares some thoughts about the start of Season 2! Back like a (Capt.) Boomerang We're back, baby! I honestly can't recall the last time I was this excited for a show to return. Last week, I got The Flash, Season 1 DVDs (No Blu-Rays in this house!) Over the course of a week, I watched every episode I could whenever I could. As I hoped, when one knows how the season ends, one can catch all the little clues that were leading us there. I admit, I was watching Harrison Wells with a close eye, and suddenly his every line had another layer. And once again, I watched the near-perfectly-assembled story wrap itself up in a way that felt completely organic and emotionally satisfying. And then, I started to guess what was coming next.Read more... • CCU 44 – Season 2 Preview

    15/09/2015 Duração: 34min

A Whole New World(s) Less than a month. We're less than one month away from the return of the scarlet speedster and his wacky gang of cops and scientists. What does Season 2 hold for us? The sky's the limit, especially because said sky holds a giant inter-dimensional portal. I think it's a safe bet that Earth 2 is going to be a major factor in this next season, as well as the folks from said Earth. We already know that Jay Garrick will be racing over from the other side, and there are some indications that big bad Zoom will be crossing over from there as well. Read more... • CCU 43 – CCU/Arrow Squad Superhero Roundtable!

    07/08/2015 Duração: 55min

Sometimes, an event happens…two forces of unimaginable power collide, but they are not destroyed. Instead, they merge to become something even greater than their individual parts. Greater than an alternate dimension…greater than a chemical bath that can restore the dead to life. The madmen (and madwomen) from Arrow Squad and Central City Underground have joined forces to fight an unspeakable evil. Well, it's not that evil. Well, we're not actually fighting anything at all. • CCU 41 – S1E23 – Fast Enough

    25/05/2015 Duração: 01h36min

Until we Flash again... I'm not going to go into depths on the season finale. Chances are, if you're reading this blog, you've seen the episode. And if you haven't, why spoil anything? I think most if not all of us are in agreement that the finale absolutely delivered. Since this will be my last blog til season two, I decided to look back at some favorite moments. Tony and I were asked to take over Central City Underground in the middle of the season. We were thrilled and honored to do so, and fortunately we were both already big fans of the show and hadn't missed an ep. As I look back at the glory that was The Flash, Season 1, here are a few moments that stuck out to me as worth recalling. Read more... • CCU 40 – S1E22 – Rogue Air

    15/05/2015 Duração: 01h12min

The Good,The Bad, And Somebody Lock The Door I admit that while I enjoyed this week's episode (Rouge Air), it didn't wow me the way I wanted it to. To me, it felt like two incomplete episodes jammed into one. But upon second viewing, I began to pick up a thread, a theme, someting. Flash teams up w/ Capt. Cold. Across the nation, you could hear fans all over rolling their eyes. When his inevitable betrayal reared its head, exactly no one was surprised. The Flash did what the Flash does...he trusted, he wanted to see the best, to hope. But he's still very early in his heroic career, and his trust proves ill-placed. Cold exhibits a classic trait of villains; he's in it only for himself, and couldn't care less if his actions hurt others. And hurt others, they do. Out of this, Barry learns a lesson. Read more... • CCU 39 – S1E21 – Grodd Lives

    08/05/2015 Duração: 01h18min

All Grodd Things Grodd Lives! Grodd. Grodd. GroddGroddGroddGroddGroddGrodd. This was my thought process while watching Ep. 21 today. I've made no effort to hide the fact that Gorilla Grodd, or just Grodd to his pals, is my favorite Flash villain. Let's explore why, shall we? I'm inclined to say that, with the possible exception of Batman, no one has a better rogues gallery than The Flash. Tech-magicians from the future, a team of villains w/ powers and names so silly they should be laughingstocks (but aren't), even an extra-dimensional despot w/ delusions of Fairy Tale-dom. But then there's Grodd. His origins in the comics (a member of a race of super-apes hidden by their advanced technology deep in Africa) is clearly different then what we've seen on the show, but that's OK. They're making it their own, and keeping true to the universe they've created. Read more... • CCU 38 – S1E20 – The Trap

    02/05/2015 Duração: 01h18min

Episode 20 of THE FLASH, The Trap, brought together a whole bunch of the threads the writers have been weaving all season into one amazing tapestry of revelations, questions and jaw-dropping moments. (And a couple of moments that left people scratching their heads! One of your hosts liked the Barry/Iris "spark moment", one didn't - what did YOU think?) Here are some thoughts from Joe about The Flash so far this season: I grew up a child of Marvel Comics. X-Men, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider...these were the comics of my youth. I didn't even start to actively read DC until my early 20s, with Starman (an INCREDIBLE book), which led me to JSA. JSA was eventually taken over by a fellow named Geoff Johns, and that's what led me to the Flash. But my experience with DC comics is dwarfed by Tony's. Read more...
