  • Episode 73 - PSG want Marcus Rashford

    18/07/2020 Duração: 59min

Dale and Mike are back with another match review as Manchester United got back to winning ways against Crystal Palace on Thursday night. In what was a cagey encounter against Roy Hodgson's Eagles, United had to battle but not without some VAR controversy... We talk a bit about that but are mindful that VAR coverage is becoming tiresome. It is worth nothing that since recording, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher shared his opinion that Graham Scott made the right call by not awarding a penalty when Victor Lindelof challenged Wilfried Zaha inside the box. Palace also had a goal rightly disallowed for offside. Moreover, listen out for our reflections on an Independent report from Miguel Delaney suggesting that PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is targeting Marcus Rashford and would back the club to bid over £100m for the England international in a COVID-19 market.Leave a nice review and follow @Strettycast on Twitter. • Episode 72 - Questions asked of Harry Maguire

    14/07/2020 Duração: 43min

Dale and Leah discuss Manchester United's disappointing 2-2 draw with Southampton. They take nothing away from Ralph Hasenhuttl's side. They pressed like a pack of wild dogs and make issues for Manchester United. Our midfield couldn't breathe. Nemanja Matic looked shattered, Paul Pogba became frustrated and Bruno Fernandes had an off-night despite providing an assist for another Anthony Martial goal. We go in hard on Harry Maguire this week because his ongoing mistakes are unacceptable. It's time he improved because he's committing similar errors to his partner in crime, Victor Lindelof, and that should be an insult to the England international.Leah goes on a rant about VAR after an checked incident saw a Southampton player deliberately stamp on Mason Greenwood after the ball left his feet. It wasn't the only decision that had us scratching our heads last night...Send us feedback via Twitter (@Strettycast) or become a member on Patreon: http://patreon.com/strettynews Hosted on Acast. • Episode 71 - Penalty claims and having a better midfield than the Premier League winners

    10/07/2020 Duração: 51min

Dale and Mike go through Thursday night's 3-0 win over Aston Villa. The game saw a controversial penalty awarded in Manchester United's favour when Bruno Fernandes was brought down on the edge of the box before converting his spot kick. Mike has a look at the rule book and says Jon Moss made the right decision despite what the Premier League will have you think.Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings hardly had the best auditions as two players linked with moves to United. We agree that Solskjaer will be put off making a move for either player. Also we think more fans are coming to terms with Grealish not being a necessity this summer. He wouldn't start in the current line-up! Mings, on the other hand, had a dig swung at him by Roy Keane for his defending in the lead up to Mason Greenwood's goal. What a player!Next up is Southampton. Mike gives you reasons to be wary ahead of that game on Monday night (8pm). That means our next podcast will be recorded and uploaded on Tuesday. Thanks for listening and we appreciate your

    03/07/2020 Duração: 55min

Dale and Mike preview Manchester United's upcoming clash against Bournemouth in the Premier League. They also take some time out to review the 3-0 win over Brighton as United start to show a level of consistency against the lesser sides.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men had some extra relief during the week as West Ham beat Chelsea and Everton took three points from Leicester City. This weekend we could do with Arsenal taking points off Wolves but that's some ask for the Gunners at the moment.Follow on podcast on Twitter - @Strettycast. • Episode 68 - FA Cup semi-finals & Angel Gomes contract expires

    29/06/2020 Duração: 41min

Reviewing the win over Norwich City, FA Cup semi-final draw and Angel Gomes’ imminent departure. All on this morning’s podcast!Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made eight changes for United’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Norwich and we discuss whether this was the right call from the manager. Although we got across the line with a Harry Maguire winner in extra time, Solskjaer called upon his usual starters from the bench so it wasn’t as if they got a rest before Tuesday’s league clash against an in-form Brighton side. Some fans argued that the game vs Norwich was Bruno Fernandes’ worst performance in a red shirt, so Dale and Leah respond to those claims and offer an explanation as to why he wasn’t most effective throughout the game. The FA Cup draw sees United take on Chelsea in the semi-finals, with both relatively inexperienced managers looking for their first major honour in the game.We also discuss Angel Gomes after Solskjaer admitted in his press conference that there’s a very good chance the youngster will leave

  • Episode 67 - Race for Champions League spots is firmly on

    25/06/2020 Duração: 01h14min

Dale and Mike run through Manchester United's recent games against Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side took four points from a possible six, and you can hear it in our voices that we are feeling optimistic about clinching a Champions League spot.A lot of eyes will be on Chelsea's league encounter with Manchester City on Thursday night. Should the Blues lose, they will sit just two points ahead of the Red Devils in fourth-place. We are awaiting news from the CAS case on whether City will be allowed to play in the Champions League next season -- potentially making fifth-place a Champions League spot. But United have what it takes to finish fourth or maybe even third if Leicester City start dropping more points. If you like the podcast and want to support what we are doing at Stretty News, please become a member on Patreon: http://patreon.com/strettynews Hosted on Acast. Dale and Leah are joined by Kieran Maguire from The Price of Football on this week's Strettycast. In this episode you get the real story of the Glazers and how they aim to run Manchester United as a business. We also take a look at the lower leagues - League One & League Two -- which have been cancelled over the coronavirus. That has seen a lot of hardship at clubs like Tranmere, who have many a number of their staff redundant after being relegated. They will argue that they were coming into some good form and may have avoided the drop.Kieran helps us understand how Manchester United will have money to spend this summer - even during times Real Madrid and Barcelona feel the pinch. We also discuss the Newcastle takeover and Ed Woodward's reputation in the business world.Follow @Strettycast on Twitter for more! • Episode 62 - Saul's bluff & 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup

    04/06/2020 Duração: 01h09min

This week Dale & Mike discuss Saul Niguez's bluff and Odion Ighalo's loan extension. The game we focus on turns out to be Mark Hughes' most important match ever, as Manchester United won the European Cup Winners Cup against Barcelona's 'Dream Team'. 1991 saw United represent English football clubs in the European CWC for the first time after a 5-year ban saw English clubs excluded from European competition following the Heysel disaster. Hughes, who features in this week's Icons of Old Trafford piece, scored twice in a hard-fought battle with this arguably being Sir Alex Ferguson's most important victory. The Scot was back in terms of European success and United had announced themselves before eventually dominating English football.Support on podcast on Patreon: http://patreon.com/strettynewsFollow @StrettycastEmail the host: dale@strettynews.com Hosted on Acast. • Episode 60 - Martin Buchan The Great - 1977 FA Cup Final win over Liverpool

    28/05/2020 Duração: 59min

On this week's Strettycast with Mike, we discuss the triumphant 1977 FA Cup final when a 2-1 win ensured that the unprecedented treble would lie untouched for another 22 years. Liverpool had already won the league and they'd go onto win the European Cup too, beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 in Rome.Manchester United won. All three goals came in a crazy five-minute period early in the second half after a non-event first half. Stuart Pearson opened the scoring when he latched onto a long ball forward. Liverpool equalised through Jimmy Case soon after, but three minutes later United regained the lead when Lou Macari's shot deflected off team-mate Jimmy Greenhoff's chest. Jimmy's brother, Brian, was reportedly given the wrong medal after the match. So too was Arthur Albiston. We also discuss the latest on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.Check out the latest of Mike's Icons of Old Trafford: Martin Buchan - available on our blog - http://strettynews.comSubscribe on Patreon: http://patreon.com/strettynewsTwitter:

  • Episode 59 - Interview with former ManUtd.com journalist Nathan Thomas

    25/05/2020 Duração: 59min

This Monday I am joined by former ManUtd.com journalist Nathan Thomas to talk about his time at Old Trafford and what's he up to now. We chat about the responsibilities he had as a reporter whilst working at the club, how United managed themselves online, and a funny story about how he held two bags of clothing for a former United player in his briefs! It's quite interesting to hear Thomas' experiences with David Gill, who helped him land the job in the first place, and then how he only met Ed Woodward once during his time as an employee at the club.I really enjoyed this conversation with Thomas, a lad I've known since starting Stretty News in 2010. You will get a feel for what it was like being a reporter at Old Trafford in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era and how the club had to give up on a previous podcast attempt because the results on the pitch under David Moyes brought so much negativity.Hopefully you enjoy it too! 11/05/2020 Duração: 45min

A new week, still very much in lockdown. There's constant talk about the Premier League making a return and people are debating endlessly about whether it's safe or not. Some of it doesn't even make sense.Anyhow, we have something different on the podcast this week. Stretty News columnist Paul Rowles joins us to discuss his latest Ramblings.
