True relationship is motivated by healthy shame. In this section of Romans, Paul compares and contrasts the religious efforts of the Jews to the healthy humility of the Gentiles.

Part of what makes God glorious is his absolute freedom. God gives mercy to whomever He wills; this itself is an aspect of his Godness.

We must trust that God is faithful to keep His promises.

If God is for us, we are able to endure any type of suffering.

If we are to suffer well, we must believe God’s Truth in the midst of pain.

We cannot learn to live life according to the logic of the Gospel, if we are not living life according to the Holy Spirit.

A soul and heart free from condemnation should give us a greater love for God.

The problem is not the Law, but that we’re utterly sinful. What are we to do? Confess our sins, receive the confessions of others, and rehearse our new identity in Christ.

The greatest transformation is when God takes a dead sinner and transforms them into someone who has a heart for Him.

“The heaviest obligation lying upon the Christian Church today is to purify and elevate her concept of God until it is once more worthy of Him- and of her. In all her prayers and labors this should have first place.” A.W. Tozer

The greatest gift is the indescribable gift of salvation in Christ Jesus. May we not just receive this gift, but live out of its abundance in every step that we take in life.

We should be amazed by God's grace, not only because of the miraculous gift of salvation, but of the benefits that we get to experience as a result.

We must trust in Jesus by faith alone.

To become proficient in any language you have to know it’s grammar. Grammar is the structure or the rules by which the system of language works. In Chapter 3 of Romans we have the basic grammar of the Gospel, these are the concepts and doctrines upon which the whole system is built. If we do not learn them well, our Gospel will lack clarity; it will create confusion in our hearts and we will often be lost when it comes time to communicate the Gospel to the deeper matters of life.

We all are needy before God and one another, but we often fall short of expressing our neediness. We can practice our neediness by confessing it to one another, crying out to Christ, and embracing our mutually brokenness. The podcast below is the application portion of the sermon. As humans, we have three common substitute saviors: knowledge, ritual, and rhetoric– all of which cannot save us. We must look to Jesus to save us and we can practically do that by: preaching the Gospel to ourselves, one another, and to the world.

Grieved by the state of our nation and the division that has been exposed as a result of the election, Pastor Dhati calls believers to proactively pursue peace by becoming advocates, not agitators. He extracts 10 principles from the example of Paul in the Book of Philemon, who advocates for a run-away slave to be received as a brother.

Too often we want to be treated impartially because we think we are deserving. However, Romans 2 explains that mankind is on the same level playing field. All of mankind commits the same sins, will be evaluated by the same standard, and has access to the same Jesus.

In the context of Romans 1, homosexuality is a living parable of man’s main problem: humanity’s rebellion against God. It’s a picture of the ultimate thing that “ought not to be done”, to live life as though God isn’t there.

The Good News saves us and directs us how to live. Though we may be shamed for the Gospel, we can live unashamed of it.
