One of the ways we hear God is through our Messiah, Jesus… so, How we hear God through Jesus? If we want to hear God clearer… hear our Good Shepherd’s voice above the noisy frequencies competing for our attention… then I think a great question to ask is… How does Jesus talk? What does He sound like?

God is intentional about communicating, about revealing Himself… about us hearing His voice. So much so that His Holy Spirit in us helps us understand what God is saying.

Promises can mess with our faith, can’t they? There are times when the struggles, the hardships, the challenges of life come all at once and seem to last so long, we can wonder what God is up to and if he’s forgotten about the promises He made.

When it comes to thankfulness, sometimes we need to double back and return to a memory, a moment when we remember what God has done for us. A moment so rich and powerful that it stands out in our story and left such an impact that just recalling the goodness, the mercy, the generosity of God fuels the step of faith we need to take in the present.

How do we MAKE a disciple? By being the best disciple, you can be.

Discipleship requires total dependence on the One who set us free… and this freedom is not to live as I see fit but to live according to the plans and the will of the Father. I am set free not just from something (sin, disease, captivity) but to become someone.

Imagine for a moment that you are a beggar and a crippled one at that. Can you imagine being carried everywhere you needed to go? 2000 plus years ago, there are no wheelchairs; no devices to get you from one place to another… you are totally dependent on someone else. It must be a humbling, embarrassing and helpless feeling.

Our relationship with God is not transactional… it’s relational. Yes, Jesus paid the price for our Salvation… He cancelled the debt and made this relationship with God possible. However, we cannot earn our salvation. Father’s love for us is unconditional.

Walking with Jesus… His way, His truth… requires a level of confidence in Him that conflicts with most of our experience of living in the wild. Have you ever wondered what it would be like, feel like, look like… to be fearless in every area of your life?

In the context of our daily lives filled with our own stuff (Sad Tragic Fears and Failures) How do we put on Christ… assume the identity when life is interrupted by the cares and routines of life, when we must earn a living, take care of business and our margins are spread too thin?

It’s funny… strange, possibly hard to believe… but nowhere in the Bible does it ask for me to add my opinion or my definitions to what God says is true.

There is a very old Africa saying in the form of a question… a question with a deep intimate implication… the saying is… “Will you walk with me?” Will you walk with me? Not around the block, not across the street… will you enter my life, my world and journey with me? This is the call to follow Jesus, to enter the world of the Messiah and journey with Him, not at a distance but up close and personal.

We are chosen to be followers. The Greek word for follow means to… to join as a disciple yes, but it means to be in the same way with… implying intimacy, going the same way, living the same way as the Master!

This sermon series is a deep dive into the life of a follower of Jesus (and yes, I realize that many of you are seasoned followers). However, this is a discovery of how to BE the disciple Jesus is calling us to be… not just learning how to DO disciple work. Our calling is so intimate, so personal and for a follower of Jesus, never ending.
