  • 142 - Mutant March Madness IV: Unfilmed X-Men Characters

    30/03/2021 Duração: 01h56min

We're back for our annual Mutant March Madness tournament! This time around, we're taking a look at 64 X-Men universe characters that were never represented (or only appeared VERY briefly) in the Fox X-Men franchise. That's right, even in a ten year franchise with numerous films, there are still tons of comic characters that never made the cinematic cut, and we're ready for a spirited discussion in which we'll bring this incredible roster of characters still waiting for their chance to shine in Hollywood down to a Final Four...with the ultimate winner to be determined in our next episode? But who will make up that Final Four?? Listen on to find out! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 141 - Remember WandaVision?

    25/03/2021 Duração: 01h04min

And now, a timely review of Marvel's WANDAVISION! That's right, we've had a few weeks to process the entire series, and we're finally ready to share our thoughts. Of course, we discuss the show's X-Men connections (or lack thereof), while also sharing our overall opinions on what worked and what didn't. Plus, we take a look at recent rumors regarding future MCU plans, and decide if there's any validity to them. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 140 - X-Tra Safe with the X-Men: A Very Special Episode

    03/03/2021 Duração: 01h20min

During the 90s, Blockbuster Video teamed up with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to launch Blockbuster Kidprint, a well-intentioned but undeniably strange program dedicated to keeping children safe. For the kids who took part in 1996, one perk was a free X-Men comic special, "Be X-Tra Safe with Blockbuster Video Kidprint & the X-Men," in which our heroes teach a young child all about Stranger Danger. In this episode, we take an in-depth look at this odd piece of X-Men history, discussing its good messages versus its disturbing storytelling decisions. But first, some more WandaVision discussion, Joe tries to guess X-Men movie characters from their first and last spoken lines in the Fox franchise, and we share our thought's on Tini Howard's new "X-Corps" book. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 139 - Yeah, THAT WandaVision Scene...

    09/02/2021 Duração: 01h29min

If you've seen Episode Five of WANDAVISION on Disney+, you know it ended with a shocking surprise(?) that might have huge ramifications on the future of the MCU, and the X-Men's place in it. In this episode, we discuss our overall thoughts on the show so far, and then do a deep dive into that moment and share what we think it all means. But first, we discuss Marvel recently letting fans vote on the final member of the X-Men team in the comics, and the resultant controversy, and also preview three upcoming X-Titles, "X-Men: Legends," "Children of the Atom," and "Way of X." Plus, we try to figure out why Joe no longer cares about the Super Bowl, and try to figure out if Trev actually knows who Claire Danes is. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 138 - Marvel Anime: Wolverine Review

    21/01/2021 Duração: 01h18min

In 2011, Marvel Entertainment teamed with Japanese animation studio Madhouse on a set of four 12-episode anime series, each featuring Marvel superheroes sent on adventures in Japan. Each overseen by problematic comic superstar Warren Ellis, the shows were a unique blend of traditional Marvel tales with anime sensibilities. As these shows have recently been added to US Netflix streaming, we figured it's a perfect time to take a look at one of those series, WOLVERINE, which sees Logan trying to save his love, Mariko, from Shingen, her crime-lord father, and Hideki, an evil gangster she is being forced to marry. How does the series stack up against other Wolverine adaptations, and X-Men stories in general? We offer our thoughts. But first - A "rumor round-up" examining recent scuttlebutt about a possible MCU Storm movie and Evan Peters reprising Quicksilver in WANDAVISION; Kevin Feige talks DEADPOOL 3; and we try to fan-cast Ben Affleck in the X-Men universe. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast

  • 137 - The 2020 Daysies Year-End Spectacular

    31/12/2020 Duração: 01h22min

With 2020 thankfully coming to an end, it's time to look back on the year in X-Men comics. With Joe reading the current books for the first time since this show started, we are finally able to kick off a new tradition, with the first annual Daysy Awards, offering our pick for the year's best X-Men artist, character, storyline, title, and more!  But first, we discuss our overall thoughts and impressions of the recently completed "X of Swords" crossover event, and once again speculate on how the X-Men will eventually be introduced into the MCU (which, let's face it, we're gonna be doing for awhile). Plus, quick thoughts on WONDER WOMAN 1984 and THE MANDALORIAN season finale. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 136 - Star Trex: The X-Men/Star Trek Crossovers

    10/12/2020 Duração: 01h33min

Two nerd worlds collide, as we take a look at two fascinating crossover issues - 1996's "Star Trek/X-Men" and the 1998 follow-up, "Star Trek: The Next Generation/X-Men: Second Contact." With these sort of media mash-ups having a fairly spotty pop-culture record, we examine whether the novelty of having Marvel's Merry Mutants meet up with the crews of the Starship Enterprise actually pays off, and the crossovers' ultimate value to fans of both franchises. But first, discussion of X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST star Elliot Page coming out as transgender, and - for some reason that even we can't explain - a LOT of talk about THE SINGLE GUY and TWISTER co-star Joey Slotnick. Yeah...just go with it, alright? facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 135 - Presidential EleXtion

    19/11/2020 Duração: 01h33min

You may have heard America just had an election. Even though this tiny event was not covered too much by the media, it still inspired us to try out an interesting (and surprisingly difficult) exercise. So join us as we both choose our dream President, Vice-President, and full presidential cabinet, using only characters from the X-Men universe. But first, some general discussion of the actual election, and Trev shares some news about the upcoming returns of two fan-favorite X-characters...X-23, and everyone's favorite, Adam-X! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 134 - X of Swords: Creation Review (Halloween Spooktacular VI)

    28/10/2020 Duração: 01h33min

In our laziest Halloween special yet, we forget entirely about the themed aspect of these October episodes and instead take an in-depth look at "X of Swords: Creation," the kick-off issue for the giant "X of Swords" crossover event currently running in the X-books. What did we think about the start of this epic story? Are we now excited for what is to come, or dreading this daunting, 22-part(!) story?  Plus, we share our thoughts on the recent Twitter thread from Punisher co-creater Gerry Conway, discussing the precarious current state of the comic book industry, and how he would try to fix it. We also peek ahead to the upcoming MODOK show and its potential X-Men connections. All this, and more SPOOOOKY treats! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 133 - Robert Kirkman's JUBILEE - Review

    07/10/2020 Duração: 01h16min

We're finally living in a post-NEW MUTANTS world, and to celebrate, Trev has decided to be nice and let Joe lead a deep dive into - to date - the ONLY solo title starring one of his favorite X-Men characters. So we're taking a look at 2004's "Jubilee," written by Robert Kirkman of THE WALKING DEAD and MARVEL ZOMBIES fame. In this superheroic take on teen high school dramedies, Jubilee moves in with her mysterious aunt in Los Angeles, and tries to deal with the everyday routine of being a normal high school student. Did Kirkman create a necessary piece of Jubilee canon here? We discuss this, and more...including Tye Sheridan's recent comments about an eventual Cyclops recasting, and what the upcoming THE BOYS spin-off series on Amazon has to do with the X-Men! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 132 - THE NEW MUTANTS Movie Review

    15/09/2020 Duração: 01h14min

84 years after it was first announced, Fox's THE NEW MUTANTS is finally here. While your standard theaters might still not be safe, we both headed to our local drive-in to check out Josh Boone's film. Amidst numerous controversies regarding whitewashing, in-film racism, and misspelled credits, there's also the simple question...is the movie actually any good, and worth the lengthy wait? We discuss ALL of this, in an end-of-an-era episode as we review the final film in the twenty-year Fox X-Men saga. Also, some brief thoughts on the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, and the return of our beloved, trademark Richard Kind talk.  facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 131 - New Mutants: Demon Bear Review

    26/08/2020 Duração: 01h32min

On the eve of the VERY long-awaited NEW MUTANTS movie release, we finally take an in-depth look at the classic comic book story-arc that serves as it's inspiration, the "Demon Bear" story from issues 18-20 of "New Mutants" (1983). Writer Chris Claremont and artist Bill Sienkiewicz (making his debut on the book) gave readers an intense horror tale the likes of which hadn't been seen in an X-book, as the entire team must rally to protect their fallen comrade Dani Moonstar from a murderous demonic entity from her past. We read the story arc, discussing how it helped finally establish "New Mutants" as more than JUST another X-Men spin-off, how immediately revolutionary Sienkiewicz's artwork was...and what the heck is the deal with Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander, two of the strangest supporting characters in X-Men history. Plus, talk of the various highlights from DC's online Fandome event, plus news of a new Wolverine comic title. All this and more, so listen on. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & I

  • 130 - Gambit: The Movie (sort of)

    10/08/2020 Duração: 01h05min

With Channing Tatum's oft-delayed GAMBIT movie a fading memory of our past, in this episode we turn to a recent X-Men fan film - GAMBIT: PLAY FOR KEEPS - in order to get our live-action fix of the ragin' Cajun. Along with Gambit, the short film features a few other comic book favorites like Rogue, Magik, and...uhhh...Eric Roberts? Anyway, we discuss whether or not the film accurately captures the spirit of the characters, and what impressed us most this apparent labor of love. Plus, Trev covers some of the highlights (or low-lights) of the recent HOLLYWOOD REPORTER article detailing Bryan Singer's horrible behavior on the first two X-Men movies, and Joe discusses his recent trip to the "Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes" exhibit at Dearborn, Michigan's Henry Ford Museum. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 129 - New Mutants Comic Con Coverage

    30/07/2020 Duração: 01h21min

The ongoing saga of THE NEW MUTANTS, filmed back in 1923, continues, and so does our coverage. This time, we were both lucky enough to attend this year's San Diego Comic Con!! Well, okay, in fact EVERYONE was, as it was an entirely online virtual event this year. One of the most anticipated moments WAS the NEW MUTANTS panel, featuring director Josh Boone and the entire cast, and we're here to discuss not only their conversation, but also the new footage we got to see. Plus, some discussion about the "X of Swords" revelations from the Marvel comics panel, confusion about the "X-Men Fandom Surprise Party" panel, as well as a supersized edition of our usual show-opening tangents and off-topic discussion. Hey, it's quarantine and we're losing our minds...what do you want? facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 128 - X-Men and BLM

    15/07/2020 Duração: 01h14min

Trev & Joe return (again) from an unexpected hiatus, to address their thoughts on the strife and frustration of recent current events in America. What is the importance of comic books, particularly a socially-minded franchise like the X-Men, at times of real life tragedy and resistance? What is the value of these characters beyond just simple entertainment? And how would we like to see the comic books and movies address these events in the months (and years) ahead?  Plus, talk of Janelle Monae's stated desire to play Storm in the MCU X-MEN films, and Joe quizzes Trev on the accuracy of recent X-MEN in the MCU rumors. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 127 - DEADPOOL Audio Commentary

    30/05/2020 Duração: 01h51min

In the latest installment of our film commentary series, we're taking a look at 2016's surprise mega-hit DEADPOOL. What makes Ryan Reynolds such a great casting choice? What does director Tim Miller bring to a crowded genre? How close to the comics is the film? And does the movie hold up four years after its release? We discuss all this and more while viewing the film. As usual with our commentaries, watching along with us is recommended, but certainly not required. facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 126 - Quarantine Catch-Up

    24/05/2020 Duração: 55min

Finally breaking our COVID-19 quarantine silence, in this episode we return to briefly catch-up on how we're both handling the ongoing lockdown. Thankfully, we also remembered this is meant to be an X-Men podcast, so conversation eventually turns to the newly announced NEW MUTANTS release date (again!) and whether we think it will actually happen this time, Rob Liefeld's comments about Disney sleeping on DEADPOOL 3, and the return of weekly physical comic book releases. Plus a brief discussion of which X-Men characters would best be suited to a weekly Disney+ series. All this, and more, in one of our most casual, freewheeling episodes ever (and you know that's saying something). facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 125 - NEWS Mutants: A New Mutants Podcast

    20/04/2020 Duração: 01h13min

Trev & Joe check in with their personal quarantine updates, before discussing the current perilous state of the comic book industry, and finally revealing the listener-determined winner of this year's Mutant March Madness tournament of Best Mutant Powers. Then, in one of the craziest things to ever happen on our show, an inter-dimensional rift opens, sucking us all inside and depositing listeners in an alternate world where NEW MUTANTS mania is running wild after the wildly successful release of the SECOND New Mutants movie. That's right, get ready to experience "NEWS Mutants," the podcast about all things New Mutants, as these alternate versions of Trev & Joe review "New Mutants: War Children," a one-shot published last year which saw the return of celebrated creative team Chris Claremont & Bill Sienkiewicz (thanfully, this issue exists in OUR world, too, so everyone should hopefully still find this review helpful). facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 124 - Mutant March Madness III: Mutant Powers

    01/04/2020 Duração: 02h12min

The actual March Madness might not have happened this year, but we've got your back, with the return of our annual Mutant March Madness tournament. This year, we're pitting 64 mutant abilities against each other, in a battle to determine the best power of them all. Included are powers from the comics AND X-Men cinematic universe. Determining factors include how cool the power looks, how handy it would be in combat, and how much you'd like to have it in "real life." And if we still can't decide after those questions, then it's down to "which power would be the most advantageous in a game of basketball?" What IS the greatest mutant power of them all? Listen to our spirited discussion here, and then discover how YOU can have a hand in the final determination! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

  • 123 - Obnoxio the Clown vs. The X-Men vs. a Quarantine

    17/03/2020 Duração: 01h10min

As the world hunkers down into a pandemic-created quarantine, we've decided to spend this valuable time diving into one of the strangest pieces of X-Men history, the April 1983 one-shot "Obnoxio the Clown vs. The X-Men." This issue saw the mascot of the then recently-cancelled Marvel humor magazine "Crazy" invited to the X-Mansion to perform for Kitty Pryde's birthday. Unfortunately, he just so happens to arrive at the same time a bizarre villain named Eye-Scream is planning an attack on the X-Men....and (allegedly) wacky hijinks ensue. We discuss both the one-shot and the history of the Obnoxio character in general, in order to decipher why this issue even happened, and why Obnoxio is mostly forgotten about today. Plus, we of course have to talk about the recent coronavirus cancellation of THE NEW MUTANTS' upcoming release. Is this movie truly cursed?  facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast
